  1. Happy 17th Anniversary to us! To paraphrase one of my favorite patient statements when I asked how long he'd been married: '14 happy years of marriage, and 3 ... not so great.' No particular plans today, but we'll have a weekend getaway in the long weekend in October.

  2. i was saving up some money to buy a new dynamic headphone amp, as i've been without one after my old head-direct hf5 died on me, but then this beauty showed up, and all my plans were thrown out the window. guess i'll have to survive using my floats off my stereo amp a few more years. i didn't want to go all the way to the attic and look for my ortho-collection anyway.

  3. Chang mai noodle at Siam Bistro -- my favourite thai food house is closed until mid October! So I went to another one that I haven't been to in a few months that I've been meaning to go to anyway. It was still delicious, but I ended up putting something from all four of the spice tray spices (fish oil, sambal oelek, crushed peppers and I don't know what the fourth one is, but I used it anyway - jalapeños suspended in vinegar?) and brought it up to a palatable level of heat.

  5. Had some old college friends come in I haven't seen in years, and met up with another one who just moved to town a few months ago. I was the culinary tour guide. At Taconooga, we shared some fries cactus. I had chicken and steak Taconooga tacos, with cheese and corn. Friends had chorizo, lengua, and a handful of others. Then the non-taco eating friend had the largest chicken tamale I've come across. Turns out this place offered something my friend wanted to try. We were going to order this top one to sample (corn truffle one) but then the server said they can do half that and half of the bottom (squash.) Not my scene, but I did enjoy the corn truffle one more. There was some gelato from Milk & Honey not pictured, before we went to get drinks elsewhere. Well, someone got so drunk (2nd time in her life to get drunk) we had to wait a while for her to recover, so she and I split some ox tail with a side of fried plantains at a Cuban rum bar called Embargo '62. The drinking thread will be updated, but there was a 151 soaked crouton that was in a beverage we shared... It was technically consumed. But served its purpose well in the moments leading up to its demise. Great bloody day. **BRENT** Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

  8. In my experience, if things like squid, octopus and probably cuttlefish are rubbery, they have been overcooked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. The boards were designed for the alpha pots. Let's see where the sourcing ends up. We could look for options for an alternate. PS I don't mind changing the boards if we can agree on a pot.

  19. I am pretty certain that the Alpha pots are relabeled Song Huei potentiometers. http://www.song-huei.com.tw/product.php?mode=show&cid=19&pid=93 might be a way to source a smaller amount from them edit: i just sent Song Huei a message inquiring what a minimum order is. I'll let you know what I find

  20. I don't have the Utopia but do have the Elear on loan. This is a crazy good headphones for rock & roll. Very dynamics, punchy, and powerful. Not the last word on soundstage, transparent, resolving ability. They do a lot right and very little wrong. In a stock form, the bass is a tad much for me but that got tighten a bit after a moon audio silver dragon upgrade. The Elear, to me, is quite a bargain at under grand. I tried them with number of amps including the ECP DSHA-2, Oppo HA-1 and it sounded best out of the SuSy Dynahi for sure.

  24. I wish I could keep Mamma. She is a real sweetheart. But I live in a small motorhome, and there just isn't room. I will endeavor to find her and the kittens good homes. The timing is good, as the winter Texans return soon, and they're soft touches.

  26. So about a month ago another kitty found sucker Steve. It's mixed coloration is weird, but cute. It's Black and Orange, in the funniest Jackson Pollock way. It looked very much in need of food and a friend. It took about two weeks before I could pet her, but once I did she decided it was the greatest thing in the world. She almost wants to be loved on more than she wants food. Also about two weeks ago, her boyfriend ( a Black cat) started showing up, and I noticed that kitty looked pregnant. Blackie is now a fixture here as well, and I've been worrying about the safety of the future kittens. I thought I had enough time to find her a new home before the birth, but this morning I realized that I had horribly miscalculated. It seems as though she was not pregnant, but lactating. She must have had the little kitties about the time she met me. I didn't pick up on it at all, but for about a week she's really been sizing up Susie. She kept getting closer and closer, then actually rubbing noses. At this point she's completely content with Susie's presence. And now it all makes sense. This morning, at feeding time, she introduced Susie and I to her family. I counted 4, but they are shy and there could be more. They look to be about a month old. I'm pretty sure she's moving them in, so Susie and I went to buy sardines this morning. No actual contact yet, but it won't be far off. They are so damned cute! Pics when I can get 'em.

  27. Spent two hours with my arm elbow deep in a 100 year old drain clean-out trying to dislodge a clog only to discover that the drain stopper had been engaged.

  28. Thanks for the reminder (wanders off to buy Notes Falling Slow -- which turned out to be surprisingly cheap [US$16 for a box set worth of music] for lossless download version from their website...hour download though). In the meantime:
