  1. Finally done! I regrettably sold my previous KGSSHV Carbon a while ago, this one’s not going anywhere soon. This is a 400V, 19mA version, using the ground plane amp board, Sumr transformer and Goldpoint V47 attenuator. I bought the heatsinks from China and had all the drilling and panels done at Front Panel Express. I pulled out the Canon 5D from the cupboard for some tasty shots.

  2. I've been working on a bunch of small projects with the laser lately, including a few custom coasters for friends and such. Even made a batch for Andrew's baseball coaches. The one in the background is the prototype, the foreground the final. We gave them to them last week and all thought it was pretty cool. I'll post some of the other stuff after an even that I'm making them for and we'll see if others post some stuff that I've made for them.

  3. I installed very similar floors in my Texas house. I kept a decent amount of extra boards in case there was ever an accident. Can’t really refinish that type of flooring, and will probably never get a perfect match. Even finding the same flooring probably won’t get an exact match due to wear and batch variances. Hopefully I’m wrong. if you have an extra board a good paint store can try and stain match if you are going to try to repair it Only wood I’ll do now is something that can be sanded and refinished.

  4. Was listening to an old episode of Score the Podcast with (This is Us score composer) Siddhartha Khosla, and his band, Goldspot, was mentioned. Apparently, they write very little in 4/4 time -- mostly in 7, 5, 13, &c. So I immediately started bingeing all 3 albums. Pretty great -- it's not really prog, as they do the odd time signatures effortlessly, and the end result is very accessible.

  5. I'm surprised we don't have this in the first TV subforum page. I finished yesterday the first and only season (so far) of "Mare of Easttown" on HBO. I really liked it, very well acted, Kate Winslet did a fantastic job.

  6. I've had it written into my will that my ashes are to be taken up attached to a meteorological balloon and scattered at the edge of space at more than 100k feet. So if at some time younger people get a speck of dust in your eye, maybe it's me.

  10. Nicely done! What brand of attenuator did you get? Balanced quads are quite expensive

  11. We've just had our utility room done with Quick-Step, this shade https://www.quick-step.co.uk/en-gb/vinyl/alpha-vinyl-small-planks/avsp40030_canyon-oak-grey-with-saw-cuts . I've kept the spare boards! I've authorized the same outfit to continue the same shade into the hallway. That is currently in darkish wood, also Quick-Step, which has been down for more than ten years, and has really stood the test of time. The same shade as the utility room will really make it much lighter. But we're having full commercial grade put down in the hall, which in a domestic environment is guaranteed for 25 years. By which time we'll be 90 - and either living in a care home or pushing up daisies.

  12. I would also assume that floor has an aluminum oxide finish for what that’s worth.

  15. Done #2! I didn't mean I did number two. Well, actually I did do number two this morning, but that has nothing to do with this. I just meant that I donated second, after Todd. Oh hell, you know what I mean.

  16. Yup - that is why I asked the question if it was solid wood or like Quick-Step. I must admit I hadn't realised that was a UK brand name. But they have deep pockets because they sponsor a world class pro cycling team ( https://www.deceuninck-quickstep.com/en ) I'll digress into cycling for a moment. One of that team's riders, Fabio Jakobsen, has won two of the sprint finish stages in this year's Vuelta Espana. What is even more impressive is that in Spring last year he was forced into the barriers by another cyclist in a sprint finish in the Tour of Poland. The barriers collapsed (they are not supposed to do that), and he hit his face on the barrier metalwork at nearly 50mph. The only reason he did not hit the finish gantry, which would have been certain death, is that an official was in the way, who had quite bad injuries having been hit at speed by Jakobsen. They had to reconstruct his face, with bone grafts to repair his upper and lower jaw and palate, and replace ten teeth. Cracked skull. In an induced coma for a long time. But in spite of all that he has come back to sprinting at world class level 18 months later. His face is a bit lop sided is all you can see.

  17. I was lucky enough to grab your old Carbon 😊 I could see subtle changes from your old Carbon - volume pot, one output instead of two, ventilation holes at the back, directional changes to the XLR input/outputs am sure it would be sounding A M A Z I N G 👍

  19. If you want to match the surface texture, you might have luck with a card scraper. https://www.amazon.com/Crown-Hand-Tools-Rectangular-375/dp/B012M9H8UG/

  20. If that doesn't work. I'd hand sand the bleached area with 220 grit paper, then use some sanding sealer with a foam brush to cover the sanded area. The sanding sealer will stop the stain from soaking in too much. You may have to buy two or three stains to mix to get the right tone. It's not an easy task. I'd mix stain and practice on a scrap piece of Mahogany. That's going to be close enough to what you have. When it looks right on the Mahogany scrap, then you should be safe in staining the actual blemished spot.

  21. I believe this is exactly what we have. Hard wood up top and then whatever below. I tried to do as suggested, swt...but that failed. I'll try again. Thank you!

  22. Pork chops obtained, will be trying them today or tomorrow. By the way, it's definitely the marinade -- I tried marinating a breast for 22:22 beforehand, then 16:66 at 400, and it came out perfect -- nothing at all like the restaurant, but the chicken was moist and perfectly done. I can definitely live with the medium heat. I can still taste it, so I'll be purchasing one of those liter bottles next time I place an order with Amazon. I still use the garlic as a condiment because their garlic sauce is easily my favourite, though I might doctor it with the bottle of hot I have. I also tried the lemon & herb -- I basically love all their flavours. It's definitely not the same as the restaurant, though, but I don't miss that char any more. I've gone through a family pack of chicken breasts all week, so I'm used to the baked/roasted (400 == baked or roasted?) "pristine-ness". I'm almost tempted to try them on my fish tails next.

  25. Since they haven't built a strip club next to the Gaylord yet, it's a no for me. Right or wrong I've apparently put my life on hold the last 16 months. I can hang on a little longer. Maybe I can start planning Red Neck Jam.

No retention, consistent grind. If it went fine enough for espresso it'd be perfect, but I'm happy with my niche for that.
