  1. I've always thought this was one of the best music videos, period. The lyrics by NIN are so perfect, and Cash who also dealt with heroin addiction, somehow does a double entendre and parallels it to the end of his life and what's important, and what's gone and just angry with regret. Heavy shit. Credit to Rick Ruben.

  2. We visited a local restaurant, Eau Tour, that I have been wanting to go to for a while. Unfortunately I didn't take a pic of the better halves' red snapper...it was the best cooked fish I have had in a long while. The duck confit looks rather drab but the sauce was amazing and the side was a grilled lettuce or cabbage layered like lasagna with delumpcious cheesy stuffs... Thumbs up to this joint if you find yourself in Houston. HS

  3. So this started a few weeks ago when someone found a picture of my 100 watt night light. Its an 833A tube. (new picture below) And he wanted a megatron made from 8 of these. (10 vac at 10 amps each tube) so 800 watts filament power just for the output tubes. By the time you make the +/- 1kv power supplies running at 40ma, and the power for the 300b driver tubes etc, way past the limit for usa 120v 20 amp service which is 1850 watts. And with the top of the tube at silly and dangerous high voltage... bad idea. So i started looking for slightly less silly alternatives. I think the 211 tube fits the bill. running with +/-750v power supplies at 35ma. So a megatron with 211 output tubes, 300b drivers and a high gain input tube. unless someone has a better idea.

  4. I like the original, but this version eclipses it IMO. The video brings even more emotion to the song. Even Trent said that the song was no longer his song, after seeing this video. Oddly enough when Rick Rubin, along with other songs, first sent it to Johnny he got no response. So, he sent another tape of songs, with Hurt as the first song on the tape. Still no response. Finally he just outright told Johnny that he thought it would be a great song for him to record. By this time he trusted Rick, so he agreed to record it. I think it's one of his best works.

  5. Wen we bought our house, new, maybe 30 years ago, I went into the front room and jumped up and down. "It's a concrete floor! We've got to buy this!" Mind you my speakers are a fraction of the weight of Wilsons. But I get no floorboard boing. Note this guy has ornaments on the shelf behind one of the speakers. I eradicated those in our room, after clapping my hands to listen for anything untoward, there was a chorus of pings from glass ornaments and plates. And he has a guitar behind the other, which will resonate nicely. Yuk.

  8. Won't argue that, but will add that Etta James comes in 2nd place. Some of my favorite Billie recordings are those from later in her life. Her voice is diminished for sure, but you can hear and feel the pain even more.

  12. My dad was a B-24 pilot during WWII. While he was in the USAAC and USAF during WWII, Korea and Vietnam, he didn't fly a combat mission until Vietnam.

  13. You've probably heard the song, but I've not seen this particular "interpretive" video. Highly entertaining.

  14. I have a pearl, a Luna, and the Pyxis. I would buy a timemore black mirror, honestly. The Acaia scales are great, and are nicer than the Timemore scales (I have the full size and the nano: I have a lot of scales), but it’s not $100 better. Attached is a picture of the Pearl, Black Mirror, and Luna, for scale (no pun intended).

  19. Same here. My grandpa was a navigator on a B-17. I told my dad he needs to watch it.

  21. This morning I saw a rafter of wild turkeys by the side of the road. Three toms and more than a dozen hens. Impressive collection although it had a sort of Handmaid's Tail feel to it the way the toms were acting.

  22. I also watched it and the documentary the bloody 100th right after it. My dad was a egineer on a B17 during WW2 so I had some interest in the show. I also got to fly in a B17 at a air show with my son at a air show at the air power museum on Long Island

  23. This might be too crazy for me but why not go further. I happen to have a couple of 30kWh, 400V battery packs so a DC-DC converter and make it "portable"?

  26. Featherweight by Rosie Frater-Taylor (2024) https://album.link/i/1704196390 Example: Some fresh music from last month from a new Artist for me. I really like the heavily influenced Jazz playing and the overall writing. And I forgive the 'no scrubs' cover.

  28. Nice two-piece design! Actually TE and Molex both have 0.093” (2.36mm) crimp contacts in their portfolio. One can make real cheap Stax sockets using those and a 3-D printed shell. The contacts are so cheap that I think not being able to extract them after assembly would be okay. The gold-plated varieties are more expensive, but I’d feel less guilty than cannibalizing Neutrik jacks. Below is one of the one-piece shells I printed using PETG. However I was not quite happy with the surface finish of the 3-D printed shells. Machined shells using acetal and PEI both give nice surface finishes and are plenty rigid. Perhaps too rigid that the RR1 plug starts to show fitting difficulties. 😅

  29. I've always loved both versions, but I didn't know that they ever performed it together. Great stuff!
