Maybe the B & D (but I have been relatively satisfied with most of the B & D tools I have used over the years) but not the Porter Cable. I have a B & D 18 V that I am very satisfied with, it generally does as good a job as the Ridgid. The Ridgid is lighter and may have better torque but the ergonomics of the B & D are better.

Thanks to Hydrocity I was able to hear my AA amp, and unfortunately it is not well. I pulled it apart and the board looks fine, i.e. no obvious frying. Well that is good for you. Unfortunately my experience does not coincide with yours. The 14.4 V drills I have used in the past (mainly a B & D and a Porter cable) have not had the battery life nor more importantly the torque to take the drudgery out of the bigger long-term projects. So although not a contracter, I consider a good 18V+ cordless drill an extremely important tool for my own personal sanity and not even remotely absurd. BTW, nice deck

Unless you're building a deck, or a shed, or fixing your fence, or .... Oh and I have several cordless drills but the one I like best is a relatively new model by Ridgid that uses Li-Poly batteries. I really like the Ridgid cordless drills as they have a lifetime warranty on their batteries.

I also have a 1000H (1G, 80G HD and std battery). Had it for a month and I love it. It is exceptionally useful and I find myself reaching for it more and more often. I'll probably bump up the memory to 2G and I may opt for the 6-cell battery if it doesn't add too much to the bulk/weight. I'll just use an outboard HD because I want to eventually put in a 64GB SSD when the prices descend from the stratosphere.

Way to come to your senses and not waste the view. Looks better with the amp on the right. I like having the volume control off to one side plus the monitor is lower and doesn't obscure the view as much. Two thumbs way up.

I just unpacked a box from our last move in 2005. I found my HPA V. 1.0 but no power supply. When I packed it to move it was acting up so I just want to get workable power supply to see if it actually works. I believe the basic power supply for the HPA was 12V and 800 mA. Can someone confirm or refute this. Also if you know the dimensions of the power supply tip that would be helpful. Thanks.

Sorry, but I consider the HP1000 a much, much, much better headphone than the PS1. So paying $3000 for a PS-1 is to me ridiculous. I get to define my truth, not anybody else. Oh and I also consider the Omega II Mk. 1 a superior phone to the PS-1 that you can get for less than $3000 as quoted in the original post by GPH. But of course everyone focused on the HD-6xx. However, the result is that you do not end up with facts but fact1 by definition A, fact 1 by definition B, etc. In this case I would actually trust the person with the actual amp in front of them. I see a low probability that they are lying or misrepresenting as I cannot see what they would have to gain. Additional information would lead credence, but if it is a choice between the person with the amp and someone, anyone, rely on a conversation or piece of information they may have read somewhere, sometime ... survey says: Person with the amp.

I'll put in a vote for Austin. A great music city and lots of things to do both city-wise and outdoorsy-wise. While I'm at it I'll put in a plug for visiting Big Bend NP. It has an amazingly low visitation rate for a NP and the scenary is spectacular.
