Here's some prototype pics of the KGBH SE. I plan to bring it to CanJam in a week w/ a pair of black O2 MKII on a Sony SCD-1

As I would expect, looking great!

Arrived yesterday and it really opens up every electrostatic headphone that I own. I was looking for an amp that can bring more bass out of my HE90 than HEV90 so I drained my pocket to bid on this and

  • I have been getting back at this..working up to a limited run of these as the STAX SR-X9000 and Audeze CRBN have made that need to happen. But the chassis is extraordinarily expensive and difficult to

  • Isn't everybody glad that I'm crazy enough to buy this stuff and have Kevin rip it apart?

Sweet looks great. I especially like the new Blue Hawaii logo.

Slightly understated. I had to adjust my pants after looking at it!

Very nice indeed Justin.

Very very lovely. The light on my 717 just went green with envy.

Sweet-looking amp, Justin!

I can't wait to read impressions from the Can Jam meeting. I hope my amp will finally be around then. That way it'll almost feel like being there.

I'm looking forward to hearing the BHSE.

And, the O2 MkII is here!

So how is it? My SR-007A would be here soon if there wasn't a national holiday tomorrow...

Damn Justin :o

Er, you wouldn't consider maybe loaning it to me for, I dunno, a month or six, just so I can see how fully awesome my Smegma Pros really are

Hehe

That's a great looking amp and probably sounds even better than it looks. I'm all jealous of you canjam peeps.

I'm also jealous of you Can Jammers. Wasn't the International Head-Fi Meet 2009 going to be held in Europe? Germany would be perfect, since it's relatively cheap to travel there given its central location.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind anyone sending me a STAX Lambda Pro for auditioning purposes with my future Singlepower amp. I think they would mate pretty well. ;)

The dust is almost always stuck to the membrane. Only dust and the charred remains of arced mylar make this sound but basically look for anything that is protruding close to the stators and will move once the high voltage hits.

I didn't see anything when I opened it up again, but wiping the membrane gently with some PVC wrap (dry, of course) seems to have done the trick, thanks :D

Sorry, fresh out of Pro's or any Lambdas for that matter. I own a few in Japan but the scene has been so quiet over there lately that saving up for a shipment isn't going too well.

Very cool!!

This is kind of a random question, but does anyone know how the XLR/RCA input on the SRM-007t works?

If I switch the input to XLR, and feed the amp balanced (+, -, and gnd) signal, would the RCA input work as a single ended (+ and gnd) loop out? I've actually tried this, and it seems to work. I hope I'm not somehow shorting the L and R - signals together when I do this.

Also, I am assuming that the amp is simply "fully balanced" (+ and - are separately amplified with respect to gnd) when the input is switched to XLR. What happens when the input is switched to RCA?

With the amp set to RCA the - side of the amp is grounded.

With the amp set to RCA the - side of the amp is grounded.

So the output also becomes single ended, with the maximum output voltage halved?

Why is the international hf meet always during exams?!?!? I want to listen to the KGBH SE!

Would you really fork out the air fares to go for a couple of days of headphone listening dude?

After graduation I'd consider going. Turn it into part of a longer holiday.

I'd just stay for a few more days, pop up to Toronto to visit grandparents and make it a holiday:D

So the output also becomes single ended, with the maximum output voltage halved?

Nope. Amplifier is fully balanced output. Single ended input, or balanced input

does not matter.

Thanks for the answer. This makes a lot more sense. I was just wondering since the description of the 007t says that it has "no transformer or inverting amplifier in the signal path."

To answer my other question, I tested the inputs using a multimeter yesterday, and it looks like the RCA input does work as an SE loop out for the XLR input.
