November 28, 201312 yr comment_611571 6:45 AM and we are getting things prepped. 25 pound turkey goes in the oven at 7:30. I should have gone to bed earlier..... Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611572 Turkey comes out of the brine shortly, then into the smoker for about 5 hours. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611574 I am going non-traditional and doing a beer and honey glazed pork roast for Thanksgiving and prepping the brisket, homemade baked beans, crock pot corn and double chocolate brownies for Saturday. Right now I am making tons of oven bacon as my butcher was out of the bacon fat I need for the brisket. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611577 Bacon fat on brisket? Sounds interesting. Nothing wrong with tons of bacon. Turkey is in the Traeger. Now coffee or beer? Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611582 Naaman, how long, what temp and how many pounds? Bacon fat is awesome! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk Report

Until it's done I want it done by 3 so if it's getting close to that time I'll crank up the heat a bit. Really just winged it (pun intended) this time. Stuffed with kosher salt, pepper, fresh minced garlic, couple of cuties, a stick of butter, and a can of Dr. Pepper. Rubbed on the outside with more of the garlic and Traeger poultry rub. Basting every hour. Smells amazing, hope it tastes as good. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611598 I brined for about 14 hours so no rub other than vegetable oil. 350 - 400 for about 4 - 5 hours than a 1 hour rest. Despite my last name, not much of a Baker but made some Pecan pie bars: Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611600 The Turkey on a treater is fantastic. The one I made last year was easily the best turkey I have had. My pork roast after the first glazing session. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611601 Bars look good. I was planning on doing a brine but I didn't really pay attention when I bought the turkey and got one that was already injected. Edit: So does the pork! Edited November 28, 201312 yr by naamanf Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611609 My turkey is out of the oven, and the turducken roll is in. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611612 Finished everything up. This cold temp here made the cook time run a bit long and my Thermapen decided to stop working so I kept it a bit long just to be sure. I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving meals. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611614 Not really a turkey fan so we are having jambalaya, braised short ribs, rotisserie chicken and sides. I better start cooking. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611627 Claire and Sophie are making Tarte Tatin, and Claire already made a pecan pie and a couple of cranberry compotes/sauces. Alden and I aren't doing squat. As Grahame the religious oppressor says, Win! Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611632 That's a fine looking pie. Best part of cooking is I don't have to clean up. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611633 Claire makes the best pecan pie ever. She needs to make into bars like you did so I can eat them more often. Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611639 Hey, if it wasn't for us hereditary oppressors you'd have no reason to flee persecution, and celebrate being given survival tips from soon to be displaced indigenous populations! Speaking of oppression, are the womenfolk in the kitchen still laboring under the yoke of patriarchy or have you at least fetched them a drink or two! Edited November 28, 201312 yr by Grahame Report
November 28, 201312 yr comment_611644 I gave the wimmenfolk a break to clean up and look purty for later. Report
November 29, 201312 yr comment_611679 Claire makes the best pecan pie ever. Been meaning to tell you Al,.. I love Claire! Report
November 29, 201312 yr comment_611682 Have I ever met Claire? I think not. I <3 pecan pie. My ex makes a killer pecan tart (which is like a bite-size pecan pie, which is what I think you want, Al). Report
November 29, 201312 yr comment_611684 I cooked the "pedestrian" Thanksgiving dinner. Ate way too much. My kitchen looks like Thing 1 and Thing 2 spent a good bit of time in there. All I wanta do now is watch some of the Lady Gaga Muppets special to try and guess what the exec's over on ABC were thinkin'! Report
