Did you marinate in Diet Coke first, as specified?

If you used Mexican / European / sugar based coke, you could have had candied Bacon.

Prime rib roast with bacon red potatoes, steamed vegetables, au jus, and stuffing (who needs to stuff stuff to enjoy stuffing). A most excellent meal. I may burst.

The bacon was neither drowned in DC nor sugared/candied.  I prefer my bacon straight up, no chaser.
