Decided to pay $5 extra to more than triple the download speed and quintuple the upload speed.

Wow! I'll have to look into that with my AT&T Uverse plan.

My new Internet at the house in Falls Church.

WTF. You need that bandwidth to teleport yourself or something!?

From myt back porch wifi. This is about 3x better download and 20x better upload since I switched to Optimum.

(You'll notice I've been able to do HD on my videos now.)

So apparently my ISP has been screwing me for AGES by charging me an extra $12 a month and charging me for the 30Mbps rate while giving me 15Mbps. :indra:

I just got off the phone with them and now my connection looks like this:

I have access to shareable PAYG data, for when I'm not in the wi-fi cloud at work, or home.

Not bad data rates when all the bars were lit up either

Wow! Visiting Iceland for the holidays?

Just got FiOS installed at the office, it's so much nicer than the Verizon 4G Mifi we'd been using for the last 8 months!

I need to get back home.  I can't stand these slow download speeds any longer.

Comcast claimed this in an email this morning

Dear Valued Customer,

Great news! We've increased your Internet speed!

Now the download speed on your Performance Internet service is up to 66% faster with speeds up to 25 Mbps and we have more than doubled your upload speeds up to 5 Mbps.

for once they may not be speaking with forked tongue.

And all without a cable modem reboot.

About the same results here Grahame...

But not much up from my old results 1.5 years ago..

I don't complain too much these days, because they don't ding me on my usage.

Comcast must have stolen some bandwidth from Verizon as my speeds are down.

Grahame that looks like good news, Comcast did the free speed upgrades for some of us on the East Coast last year and it sounds like they are rolling out the to the rest of the country now.  When I first signed up I was on the Blast! plan which I think was 25 down 5 up.  They raised it up to 50 down 10 up last year and as can be seen in the test below I do see higher than 50 down on occasion.

My old Airport Extreme bit the dust last night (power supply). So I went to the Apple store to pick up the new version and be tempted by the Mini Retina. Unbelievably, I did not buy a Mini, but I did get the router. It's fast, the numbers below are WiFi:

But it really is a PITA to get this thing to play perfectly nice with the Verizon FiOS router.
