Yup, I feel like getting a second setup to complement my K1000 setup, and I'm trying to decide between an Omega II setup or a balanced HD650 setup. My Omega II will be amped by a KGSS, and the HD650s will be amped by a GS-X, when the new MOSFET modules are released. Basically, the intended goal of this secondary setup is to complement the K1000 setup, so I don't really want it to have a similar sound signature. So, what do you guys think?

I really just want to hear these, there's been so much frustration for me revolving around them, and I've never even heard them. It seems every time I try to get to a meet where they'll be I manage to be forced to miss out, so if anyone could give me a loan I'd be really greatful. I'll pay shipping etc both ways if necessary. Thanks!

In a nutshell, I want a pico but I don't have a lot of stuff so perhaps there is something that I should buy before the Pico. I feel that I don't have a good enough source, or perhaps my amp isn't good enough. Spending $500 on a pico should give me a significant difference since it is a combination of both right? If I didn't buy the pico, I would've probably gotten a DENON DCD-CX3 SACD/CD player or a Yamamoto HA-02 to compliment my ATH-W1000.. Honestly, I'm very fickle and after taking the plunge at IEMs, Tomahawk, and that fricken ALO Cable... I felt that the money and time I spent into these wasn't spent wisely. I want to make a right, or if not.. a good pur…

I'm finally in the market for some new headphones, and I think I've got it narrowed down. I'm looking at either Audio Technica's W1000 headphonse or their AD1000PRM headphones. The only difference I know is that the W1000s are slightly more expensive and are closed rather than open. What I don't know is whether the headphones being closed is a bad thing in terms of sound accuracy... since sometimes it seems that can cripple a pair of cans. Basically, I'm looking for something that'll work especially well for orchestral/classical sorts of music. I'm slightly concerned about the bass being underpowered... I don't need to have my eardrums dominated by bass, but it's g…

It's not always easy to get information about the headphone industry. Feel free to use this thread to post informative articles, market research, etc. I'll post some links here. - Here's an article on trends from Dealerscope. - NPD Group on premium headphones. - NPD Group on celebrity endorsements (Tyll mentioned this in a piece at InnerFidelity.com.) - HiFi retailers focusing more on headphones. - Beats and Monster breakup article. Contains some interesting data.

link On-ear. (Largely) closed. (Largely) black. Leather (& aluminum). Detachable, non-microphonic cord with mic and remote for, e.g., Apple products. Not electrostatic. $300. No, I'm not getting them, I have enough headphones, I'm not getting them, I have enough headphones, I'm not getting them, I have enough headphones, I'm not getting them, I have enough headphones... But, dang, I'm curious.

I had no idea I was a headphone snob but now I know it's official. While listening to my new MS2i heaphones the most elitist and snobby thoughts about my HD650's kept going though my head. My headphone upgrading path started with a pair of Grado SR80's > Sr325's > HD650's shortly followed by a zu mobius cable now 3 years after my HD650's a wild hair caused my to buy a pair of MS2i's. At first I really liked the grado line, that is, until I first heard a pair of HD600's. After that first listen my grados began to sound unbearable. The highs were just too much for me. A few months later, after I had saved the money, I finally bought a pair of HD650's. I loved …

So I've been looking for a solid pair of earphones (under $100), not in-ear phones (they feel like Q-tips to me), and not headphones....just something like those earphones that come with your Ipod but sound much better. Now I can obviously see why stores won't let you test them, because who'd want to wear a pair that's been in 100's of people's ears? That being said I come to you, and look for some advice on a good pair you'd recommend. Quick info: • I listen to a lot of classic rock/ballads, not sure if this helps recommend a pair? • I am not a fan of bass, the whole thump-thump sounds people obsess over isn't something I care for much. I like the sounds t…

The price is not yet a problem so I have no price range restriction, although I don't want something over 1000$... if you know what I mean. I want my headphones to be completely wireless (no wire, no usb dungle, no dock station). I want to be able to lay in my bed or walk into the house without the laptop with me (especially for Google/Skype Phone Calls) (this let me conclude that any IR (infra red) wouldn't be suitable since they require the headphones to be in sight of the IR signal transmitter to communicate. I will be using these both for phone call and listening to music as long as playing so games (so It requires a Mic for the phones calls and must have some decent …

Hello. I'm new here on the forums, as well as to this audiophile hobby, and want to buy my very first pair of hi-fi headphones. I live in Brazil, and the options here are very scarce. I recently had the opportunity to get the HE-400 new(latest revision, with velour pads) for a fair price, and wanted to know your opinion on them. Has anyone here ever heard them? Do they offer a good sound/price ratio? Can you tell me more about its sound signature and qualities? Thanks, and sorry if i've made any grammar mistake. English's not my native language and it's been a while since i used it, so it's a little rusty. José Carlos.

I was originally thinking about getting the hd 558, 598, or the 595, but they are open ear and aren't very portable. I'm looking for: folding, around ear, closed, 200$ or less, and preferably decent bass. That might be a lot of specifics but I need help finding the right headphones. Any ideas? Thank you! Dylan

I have been having pain in my left ear, I went to the Dr. and he said my ear was inflammed and gave me antibiotics. I stopped wearing headphones for a few weeks and my ear felt better. Yesterday I put my favorite headphones on (HD 600) and my ear began to hurt again. The pain is located around the tragus (towards nose not canal) it started with sensitivity to volume and higher pitches now it is just a pain relating to pressure from the headphones. The pain eventually goes away my concern is for the long term and am wondering the best way to proceed is (no more hd 600's oddly enough have read of 3 accounts incredibly similar to mine, moving towards speakers anyway . An…

I think these are one of the good 'uns under a thousand bucks and come up a little over half that used. They have nice tone, good speed, and focused soundstage. They have more sparkle and air than an LCD-2. LCD-2 bass has a slight edge in texture and a definite advantage in bass slam. HE-500 bass is almost a bit too Lambda-ish and can sound somewhat one note when underpowered. They sounded a lot more articulate off a Beta22. Where they really outshine the LCD is in the midrange and treble. There are some odd dips in the HE-500 mids, but it doesn't have that constant shelved down sound that the LCD has. They don't come close to either Omega in terms of resolution, but t…

Hi Guys, I'm antonyfirst. Since before end 2006 my Headfi account didn't even exist, I'll probably change my name to Tony. A friend of mine is deciding wether to balance his L3000 or not. Knowing how much better the Sennhesiser HD600 and HD650 become in balanced mode, I am very curious about what improvements can benefit the L3000. Let me know, and let's hope Headfi will get back in a good shape. Tony

So I went down to Kingsound in Mongkok - Hong Kong (http://www.headphonehk.com/, I have no affiliation, but highly recommended - I've purchased a lot of stuff over the years from them), to pick up some mundane cables as I'm re-dabbling with portable audio. I see a small group there so I saunter over, looks like some friendly locals having some sort of mini-meet at the store!. Holy shit, I see a R10...I've never seen or heard one. So I politely ask the group if I could take a listen, not sure what the source was, they were using a McCormack Head Drive (??!!, not sure of spelling) -- this is just 3-5 minutes, but wow, just wow. For a nanosecond I thought about bolting an…

Okay, so here's the deal: My father has agreed to pay for headphones for me if I find ones I deem suitable. I'm looking for a minimum frequency response of 5 - 35K Hz, Closed, preferably circum-aural. At the moment the only ones that I've come across that look any good are Audio-Technica ATH-A1000, Audio-Technica ATH-A900, and Sony MDRD777SL ... I know that the Beyer DT770's sound good, but my ex who I'm friends with has those and it would be copying, and in the spirit of competition I'd like to see if I can do better than those... I've heard wonderful things about this site being blunt and to the point when it comes to it. Please help me get the best I can get. Th…
