So I went with a friend see some speakers at the Hi.fi store and while doing our listening session the owner was always talking about this simulator device that he got but we continued to say "yeah yeah lets hear the speakers". At the end he convinced us to have a go and I could see how all smiley he was. I put the stax 202 on the ears and I keep waiting for him to turn off the speakers and boot the headphones but when I take off the headphones I realized the speakers weren't playing and that was when my jaw dropped The sound was in fact coming from the headphones, it sounded exactly like the speaker but better, you know with stax speed detail etc.. so he best of bot…

I have been trying to score a pair of HD580's recently and have noticed that for the prices I have been receiving I can almost get a pair of HD600's. I found one pair for 210 with a Audigon rating of 8/10 and another pair for 250 with same rating plus a Red Clou cable upgrade. the plan is to occasionaly use them with Headamp AE2 and mainly at home with Onkyo reciever for movies late night. I have an older Sony DVD player. When I bought this player, I researced it pretty heavily and bought it because it was pretty highly regarde for it's SACD\dc playback. Hey guys & gals, I'm new hear but found this through Google. So awhile back I had my HD650's directly plugged into the front of my Mac Pro and I pushed my chair back and slightly bent the plug as well as the headphone jack in the Mac Pro. So for about two months, I'd have to jiggle the plug and keep tension on the cord in order to get sound from both drivers. Then about two weeks ago, I couldn't get the right driver to play. So I bought a new adapter to fit in my computer, nothing. So I tried my headphones in my Amp without the adapter, same deal, only the left side working. I've tried other headphones in my computer and they work. So, did I blow a driver someho…

I have had the oppritunity to audition these cans twice. Once unamped out of ipod and once with an iBasso P1. Was dissapointed both times. Knew I would be with them unamped. Not quite as dissapointed with them out of the P-1 but something was still lacking. Have since upgraded to AE-2 and was wondering if this amp would be more suited for them (no longer have cans avilable for auditioning). Have found a couple of really good deals on used ones (around 120 USD shipped). Not much to loose and could always resell if I didn't like results. Would be used mostly for Blues or older Rock (no metal).

my favorite headphone is the hd650, properly amped. i've not extensively heard the hd595 before today, but i just grabbed a pair from a local shop and have been listening to them straight out of my macbook headphone out, and i gotta say, these are a fantastic hd650 low power compliment! they have a very similar flavor... i think they actually sound better than the 650's straight from the hp out. i think i've finally found my ksc75 replacement. anyway, that's all i wanted to say.... mjb

HD650s - the Rodney Dangerfield of headphones?? When I first borrowed them earlier this year, I was underwhelmed (compared to PS-1 (sold) and L3000, etc). I bought a pair to putz around with my Lisa IIIXP and DAC1, but these phones have grown on me...to the point I'm reaching for them half the time. OK I've recabled them with RAL and defoamed them and rubbed them with barbecue sauce. If I were to cut objectively - no BS - to THE SOUND - these HD650s would hold their own, certainly be tops for 'bang-for-buck'. Running them out of my DHA3000 and LIIIXP/LLP for reference. So what's my point...nothing. maybe I could easily be happy without blowing my wad on silly expensiv…

The right driver in my HD650s is loose. If I wiggle the headphones around I can feel and hear it jiggling. Sometimes the cable gets a little disconnected and the music cuts out. It's starting to get annoying. I've never done anything DIY in audio, but I'm willing to try something to fix this. Any advice? Also, not sure if this should go in a different thread? Thanks all.

HD650 used to be the headphone to get. Everyone seem to have one at one point or another. I have heard on various occassion and I am quite familiar with the sound signature. However I have not own one, I had always planned to get one, however throughout all these time, I never got around to do it for one reason or another. Recently, I considered getting it again. However again I ended up with something else, the HE-500. I compared them, along with LCD-2, the two orthos sounded better by a significant margin to me, which made sense considering they also cost more. Jesus these things are killing me with their vice-like grip on my head, and my head is not even that big! After an hour of listening my jaw starts to hurt. Is there any way to make them grip less?

I am getting ready to come home in about a month and have to start mailing my gear home. I figure rather than have it sit around, it might was well get some use. I have already offered up the Buffalo and currently have: SWT61->Augsburger->Deepak. The Buffalo will be set up for SPDIF use only. I was hoping the guys at TP would have had the MUX ready by now but no such luck. The Buffalo is in a beat up Par-Metal case so it isn't much of a looker but should give an idea of the sound. There isn't much talk about HE-4 but at this price point it should be a great choice for those trying headphone other than dynamic. It is less demanding on amp IIRC. Has anyone heard it? What do you think?

Which is easier to listen to at a low volume?

I need to change the headband pad on my HE90 but I've never actually done it before. Can anyone here talk me through it so it makes sense and I don't break something? I think the cups have to come off but I'm not positive. Any help would be appreciated, Gary.

A few years ago JMoney Audio was going to produce HE90 headband/earpads in leather but it never came to fruition. Has anyone ever produced these in leather, or does anyone have a source for Sennheiser originals; specifically headband pad? When I checked a couple years ago Sennheiser no longer had these available and it seems JMoney gave up on the project. Sorry if this sounds silly but I've been out of the loop for a while, so any info is appreciated. Gary

What do you think? Should I jump on the HE90 without ever auditioning it (a chance which I'll never get anyways)? I'm a huge fan of the HD 650, favourite headphones probably, warts and all, and also liked the O2 very much when I heard them decently amped. Somebody offered the HE90 to me at a fair price with the Stax adapter. The seller also offered me a KGSS DX tuned for the HE90 as an optional buy, any thoughts on that? Anyone else notice their headphone hearing changes after a haircut? It's gotten so I anticipate it each time I'm due... it was pretty bad this time, being about two months overdue. However, the benefit is that my Alessandro MS-1 sound a lot better today (at the same volume level)... highs and overall clarity and imaging improve. Having longer hair must have some kind of HRTF effect (I made sure my hair was never covering my ears when it was long).

Looking to make a decision on either the Phiaton ms 400's or the Sennheiser hd 518's what is better for the price? I want a pair i can take on the go and listen to at home and be impressed.

Or is it more of a CD3000 hybrid type deal, but with heavily modded beyers? Seems cool either way. And the Cherry Bomb description confuses me a bit, are they grados with fully custom wood enclosures and modular cable?
