Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by spritzer,

So all the old stuff about these is buried in the Stax thread but since I just bought a lightly used set of KS-M3 and M10 it was perhaps time to give them their own thread. So I owned both the H1 and H2...and both were terrible. Truly awful but there are still people out there claiming the H3's are really good so...I was curious. I got the combo at a nice enough price so why not. Kevin thinks I'm nuts for buying a third one of these but hey... I guess he's right. The amp will await inspection but I connected the phones to the Carbon CC for a listen. Ok...a small spoiler here...they aren't good. Like at all and more of a shame on other electrostatics... …

Anyone heard these? How do they compare to the Stax? At US$600, I'm almost tempted to try them, but I should save up for the 4070's that I'm going to get...

Hey, does anyone know where I can get a Stax Pro cable so I can recable my ESP-950's? Also, I have tried to find detailed info on the process of doing the mod. Does anyone have any links to info on this? Thanks.

I've only had them since this morning. But so far I'm really digging the sound Some initial impressions. Very balanced sound with exceptional tonality. The first thing I noticed is how forward the sound signature is (similar to the K1000). The soundstage isn't as large as the Omega 2 MK1. The Omega 2 has this uncanny ability to throw its voice like a ventriloquist projecting sounds outside the dimensions of the earspeaker. The Koss can't quite do that. The Koss have very, very nice midbass and impact making them fun to listen to with rock. They have a hint of that deep bass that is crying to come out, but doesn't extend that far. Mids and highs are very well b…

  8. Alright this comparison arose out of complete boredom My Melos SHA-1 has two headphone outs and I keep the KSC75 (screen modded) plugged in at all times to act as a dummy load for the amp when it's turned on, and then plug the HP-2 (flats) in after the tubes have warmed up. Today I forgot to unplug the KSC75 and noticed they were still plugged in after I was about half way through one of the discs. So I decided to do some switching between my HP-2 and the KSC75 Also I'll say I used only one album for this comparison. My friend let me borrow his Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues box set (which is great, albeit very condensed) so I was rocking out to this all after…

Hello, sorry my english. I have a "koss PortaPro's" and really like the sound quality of this phone. But now I want to buy a headset "In-ear". So I ask: Is there any headset "Earbuds & In-Ear" with quality "equal or better" to the Koss Porta Pro? Purchased a "Philips SHE9000" but I was extremely disappointed. The quality of this phone is terrible. Researched some models of phone, and called me some attention. They are: Shure SE530s Koss KDX300 In-Ear Sennheiser MM 70s Sennheiser CX 300 II I am not an expert on ear phones, so I would know through you. Any of the above models have the quality "equal or better" to the door of the pro koss? Do you suggest some…

I finally did it. I ordered those things with a Koss Porta Pro for a friend's B-day. He like's his Shure e2c so I thought to introduce him to the KSC75s and portapros. The portapros were my first high end can when I was just 10 or 11. Back in the day it was those foam earpads for the walkman's. In any case, I never heard the KSC75s which is pretty funny since I owned: HD 650 w/SD v2, HD600, HD595, HD580, AKG 701, SR225, DT990, D2000, ATH-EC7, Koss Porta Pro, Sony MDR-V6, ER-4P, Shure E500PTH, e5c. But now I own: Grado HP-2, GS1000, RS1, HF-1 #248, 325i, SR60 w/copper grills, ER-4S, Shure e2c, ATH-W1000 (soon), ATH-ES7, Koss PortaPro, Sony MDR-M44, Sony MDR-EX51LP, Sony MD…

What are your L3000 burn-in experiences? I have a pair that's being extremely stubborn, though truthfully part of it is my laziness. It's my second pair; bought it a while ago (3 years?). It's been mostly in storage, but I figure it must have at least 250 hours from my previous half-hearted burn-in attempts. It STILL has that new-L3000 sound (mostly). I know that sound because it's exactly what Purk's pair sounded like when new. It's got the L3000 signature for sure, but the effortlessness and holographic imaging aren't there yet, like on my older pair (bought used from Japan) and Purk's pair. Sounds a bit too "rigid" like the full musical flow isn't quite there yet. It'…

Well I finally got my system complete with the M^3 and I just don't like/find my system to sound anything special. Right now I have an Northstar 192 MKI and the M^3 using the laptop as a transport. I had the HF2 but it looks I'm not a grado person and for the reasons stated I sold it. Since I just got the M^3 I'm willing to give the system another try with a new headphone before I sell everything. I'm open to your suggestions.

In a nutshell, I want a pico but I don't have a lot of stuff so perhaps there is something that I should buy before the Pico. I feel that I don't have a good enough source, or perhaps my amp isn't good enough. Spending $500 on a pico should give me a significant difference since it is a combination of both right? If I didn't buy the pico, I would've probably gotten a DENON DCD-CX3 SACD/CD player or a Yamamoto HA-02 to compliment my ATH-W1000.. Honestly, I'm very fickle and after taking the plunge at IEMs, Tomahawk, and that fricken ALO Cable... I felt that the money and time I spent into these wasn't spent wisely. I want to make a right, or if not.. a good pur…

  18. I was hoping somebody could help me out here. Currently I use Phillips SHE9503/10 in-ear earphones. They get the job done, and I felt as though I got a bargain with them. Im definitely happy with those. However my listening experience has lessened of late. I find I take too long putting the buds in my ears, and a lot of times when turn my head the wires would catch on my jacket button, making me start the process of fitting the buds back in my ears. And sometimes I feel them sliding out so I have to constantly adjust. All the while my song is being played and im not listening to it properly. Anyway, because of all this I was thinking about replacing them with headphones. …

  19. Hey yall im new to this forum but i have started to become and audiophile through the years (ever since i started listening to music (im 17 now) and i already own a pair of etymotyc reaserch ER-6i's and i really enjoy them for on the go. but i would like something for home, ive been looking through headphone.com but idk what to get im looking for a nice true bass, crisp mids, decent highs, can be noise cancelling but doesnt have to be. and all under 200$ (250$ okay but pushing it) also i have looked at some desktop/portable amps for my computer and ipod you can give suggestions for this but keep it around 150$(as i do not have a stereo system) any ideas??

  20. While I am waiting for my HP's to be serviced, does anyone have any recommendations for something that can tide me over until then? Budget probably 200-300 as once the HP'1000's come in they will be taking full time. Would prefer not to go the hd650 route again as they just don't satisfy me musically regardless of the number of times I've had them and various rigs (about as much as the HP1000 actually). Definitely not into the k701. Thoughts are the allesandrom MS2i and audio technica ad2000 (i believe that is the model that a lot of people have been praising). If anyone has thoughts on the above two, or other recommendations, that would be great. Just note that…

  21. Hi folks, I'm new here. I was wondering if anyone had good advice on a portable phone that is resilient in artic temps? I'm in Canada, use an iPod and want something better than the iduds, but the phones have to fit under my toque, so KSC 35's and anything larger are out. I own Ety 4p's but I can't have the isolation while walking.

Has anybody heard the Senn HD238's? I am currently using PX100's for portable and am looking to replace them. From what I have read, seems like they may be a decent choice.

Hey guys I'm new here so I'll post a little intro if you don't want to read skip this paragraph ! Well I'm 18 years old from Canada looking for a good pair of headphones I'm new to the whole audio world and was ironically introduced to it by gaming.... Any way I'm here looking for my first quality headphones to start I don't want anything to expensive but something with quality. I will be using the headphones at home a lot where I do have an Amp for my pc and xbox however it will have to be able to play off of my Ipod at a decent quality ( doesn't have to be its best) I've been looking at several models my friends all have beats and I personally hate them i find they'…

  24. Hello, first post for me. I'm looking to buy Non-Insulating wireless earbuds for running and biking in city. I already have sennheiser pmx 685i, that I really like, the only problem is every 2-3 months I have to send them to repair to switch the cable. I'm a fan of sennheiser, I have sennheiser 598, sennheiser 380HD pro, and audio technica ath-m50x. here are my priorities: Wireless Non-Insulating Sound quality Behind the neck type (like the sennheiser pmx 685) Features such as heart beat monitor Price My budget is 250$ and under. 100$ is also a great option. I'm willing to buy in ear headphones if you're able to h…

Hello everyone, I'm kind of new here, but I was hoping I could find some help. From browsing the boards it seems that most of the people here are very serious about their gear and are often using it professionally, but I was hoping to get advice on a more day to day use headphone for a moderate user. I'm basically looking for a headphone under $200 that is comfortable, light (doesn't apply too much pressure and doesn't feel heavy on the neck), and easy to wear for extended periods of time. Most of the headphones I've used also tend to make my ears warm up, so a headphone that is kind of cool would be better. I prefer circumaural headphones, but I'm not sure if I ha…
