Headphones

Ok, I hate making decisions, and I hate having broken headphones. There is a bit of a rattle in the right side of my maple Darth Beyers. I'm thinking it is either a driver, a hair, or (doubtful, but maybe) a slight defect in the wooden cup assembly. I have a few options, as the seller has reimbursed me a very reasonable amount to go towards rectifying my problem. Option 1: Buy 1 dt770-250 ohm driver to replace the one, fix it myself (with help) or send it to a DIY guy to do it for me Option 2: Same as above, but send it to larry. Option 3: Send to Larry to redriver both sides with 80 ohm drivers (many people consider these superior). This will be a little $$$ out …

Calling Reks, calling Reks ..... where did you get the grado cable and the screen mod done to those sr-80's. I love em! I added a headphone pad and they even fit well with good comfort. I might get another pair of sr-80's .... or maybe even a 225 .... and get them modded like these.

A W10Ltd was offered in trade for my RS-1 at the other site. Have not found much info on this phone in the hour or so I looked. I'll research more later. His description "these are the limited edition woodies, released after the original w10vtg. it's a different sounding beast, cleaner and more focused than the vintage. bought them used here in excellent condition with original cardboard box. Wonder if anyone would care to comment on their interpretation of the sound ... especially as it relates to the W5000 or AD2000, or even compared to the RS-1.

A friend gave me this cool t-shirt. It's a patent drawing of a Jensen headphone from the late fifties/sixties. A little before my time. Did anybody know the story of these things? We're they an innovation? Did they ever amount to anything?

Oh man... Why did i just finally wait to pop my flat pads on the these badboys.... i didn't much care for them on stock hf1's, but what a huge bass impact... it brings the sparkle in the highs a bit back from the larger chambers, and sacrfices sound stage a touch... but wow.... amazing. Not saying I prefer one or the other, but this might actually satiate my urge for a gs1k or rs1 down the line... it doesn't get much better then this for me.

So this rather strange headphone just arrived from HeadRoom. What is even stranger, is that after I ordered it, both it and the 2200ULE disappeared from the HeadRoom site alltogether and have yet to return. Is it something I said? This headphone is pretty weird, and I have to say that without any burn in it sounds like rubbish for $400. More later!

I am really looking forward to comparing them with my serial number-less stock cable RS-1. A few days I placed an order for a pair of Super Freqs on a whim after stumbling across their website. Hard to pass up custom fit 3 driver IEMs for $189.99 Two days later the kit arrives. In side the box is two impression kits, pair of gloves, return labels and postage as well as instructions. It's long overdue, but I finally decided to go and figure out exactly how the filter PCB in the K1000 affects the sound. As has already been established, it is a low Q notch filter in the treble region, with a noticeable effect on the sound. It consists of an inductor, a resistor and a capacitor in parallel with each other, and the filter is in series with the driver. The values I measured were 7.1mH, 88.9R and 0.168uF. The resistor markings clearly show it as an 88.7R 1% resistor, but the other two would require assumptions towards their nominal value. For the purposes of scientific discovery, I am tempted to acquire a set of K702 to hear if you can get blood from a stone. The K701 that I have heard at meets are strangely resistant to presenting a lifelike sound. I know that these cans have many (deluded) proponents, but, like Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, I trust my feelings. Is anyone running a K701 or K702 out of a beating valve-based system? Hello there! I felt like sharing some of my experiences on how the D5000 changed as time went by. Now, I was never a believer of burn-in. I tend to be extremely pragmatic in nature - I only believe in something once I see it happen. I never noticed any burn-in over the year I wore the HD280 and the Porta Pro. I do quite a decent amount of walking and it's mainly in neighborhoods. Sometimes though there are people mowing, using edge trimmers, blowing by in really loud cars, motorcycles, etc. and I can hear it and it bothers me with my current headphones (Monoprice 8323 stock). I know those don't block enough to prevent hearing damage. I do not like IEM's. I've been looking up and it seems like passive noise isolating headphones are better for medium pitch to high pitch noises and active noise cancellation is best for low to lower middle pitched noise. HD650s - the Rodney Dangerfield of headphones?? When I first borrowed them earlier this year, I was underwhelmed (compared to PS-1 (sold) and L3000, etc). I bought a pair to putz around with my Lisa IIIXP and DAC1, but these phones have grown on me...to the point I'm reaching for them half the time. OK I've recabled them with RAL and defoamed them and rubbed them with barbecue sauce. Huhumm, I thought I would never say that but I guess it's time I'd expand my vision. I am, at times, getting tired of the sucked out midrange which makes me feel like eq-ing buy I don't want that. When I walked home today I listened to Paranoid Android of Radiohead and I got scared of the hollownesss to the sound. I can't seem to listen around it anymore. Hello, I would like to ask for your help in selecting my new set of phones. The characteristics they should have are: To be comfortable (this might be very subjective, I know, but give me you opinion) as I will use the for long periods of time; To be durable (cables and specially connections should be resistant) as I am not the best owner for my gear; To be noise insulating (I will use them to be able to focus while working in busy places); To be portable. Hi y'all, Having a bit of a conundrum with my Stax SR-007 Mk1 (S/N 71169) electrostatic earspeaker.
