Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the Sennheiser 280 PRO New Model has less noise isolation then the original model?

After several weeks, I finally received the 701s. They've have a bout 85 hours on them now I'd say. I'm really starting to enjoy them and their, nice, deep, but not overpowering, bass. I've been running them mainly out of the Prehead, but I'm happy to report that they sound great out of the Gilmore v1. The soundstage is extremely vast, similar to the CD3000, but I'm thinking not quite as exaggerated. Still, the soundstage seems a bit unrealistic, but not distractingly so.

After nearly a year with the W5000, it was time for some new woodie love! I wasn't sure if I would like them soundwise, based on the many various comments, but I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. What a great midrange!

After using low-end earphones so far, I finally decided to upgrade by buying Harman Kardon's NC. Being new to high-end headphones (or whatever they are) I have a quick question for you audiophiles.... It seems that sound quality in left and right (irrespective of the song & who is listening i.e. me or my wife) is slightly different. Overall sound quality when listening from both sides is just fine. But, I am wondering, if this imbalance is normal (what do I know about headphones?) OR is it a technical defect? Hoping for some genuine help!

  7. Don't ban me, please! My girlfriend has a portable DVD player that is pretty much useless when we are traveling on the interstate, because the volume doesn't get loud enough to overcome the road noise. We haven't used it on a plane yet but I imagine the situation would be similar. I have zero experience with noise canceling phones, but I'm thinking they may be what we need in this situation. I already suggested IEMs, but she doesn't want to have to jam something in her ear. Budget like $100-200, cheaper the better. She wants circumnaural phones. Comfort is a top priority, and movies are the primary medium, but I'd still like something that is at least respectable so…

First of all, sorry for my possible bad english! I am looking to buy a pair of headphones, and I'm surely not an expert, so I need your help! I have a budget of just €60, and I'd like a headphone both good for gaming and music. I want to use it both on my PC and MP3 player. Doing some researches and reading a lot of reviews, I've come across these 2 headphones: Sennheiser HD 429, and Razer Electra, both €59 here in Italy. Now I really can't decide...I'm not sure if the HD 429 will be good for gaming too (they say to have "powerful bass response without sounding bloated" and this is good for games, right?), and I'm not sure if the Electra will be very good for music…

  9. After hearing a lot of buzz, especially on head-fi.org, I've got these from a spam site and they're finally here. I did a lot of testing, including a comparison with the m50, as the title suggests. There's the box. Big and pretty, but dinged up by the nosy and careless customs employees. The headphones come packed with a layer of cloth, which I found a nice touch. The build quality is great. You definitely don't expect something like this for 50 dollars. Sturdy, heavy plastic, no creaking. Pretty comfortable, if a tiny bit too small for my head. Then again, I'm not a good judge for this as I find all headphones a bit uncomfortable. If I can put it on and not feel …

I was on the way up to US from Asia and transit at HK and bought airline adapter. As soon as the plane took off I plug the TF10 with the adapter into the airline seat. I leave the TF10 for a while and do some reading. When I'm ready to watch some inflight entertainment, I hold the left IEM and it burned my hand. Apparently the plastic right in between black and blue part melted (in the inside part) and I can faintly smell burning smells When it cold down I tried and have lost the bass responses. There's no bass at all on left channel. I guess the low driver was burned. I dont have any idea if I buy a screwed up airline adapter or its the headphone port thats causing th…

Hey guys! I am new to this forum just wanted to greet you all. I am about to purchase a pair of Sennheiser HD800's which I'm stoked for, but I was curious, are they great for their price, or is their other options? I would love to know, and all off your advice would be helpful. So is the Sennheiser HD800 worth it? I finally saved up the moollaaaah, now I feel nervous to spend it. I have the Bose quiet comfort 15's, Am I right in thinking that these will be a huge step-up? I also wanted to know, does the Sennheiser's have good bass? Also I found some reviews for it, and here is someone's blog that makes them sound like god. Are they correct? http://www.squidoo.com/great-he…

First of all, hi! First post here. I have been using the HD202 for a while and became more interested in audio, I've been looking into two headphones the DT770 80ohms and the Shure's SRH840, what I've read is that the mids on the DT770 are recessed, so vocals wouldn't be as good as they should, and while some say the SRH840 are awesome and balanced, some say they are overhyped, I really can't choose between them. I've also looked into the HD600 this being more expensive and open, I don't want anyone around me to be able to listen to it, so I must ask compared to the HD202 how is the leakage on those? I listen to POP, Classic, and KPOP. The use for the headphone is…

  16. Started by PICaudio,

I've bought a new SR-003 in eBay and when I connect them to the Pro bias connector of a modified SRD-7 can listen to a small noise in the right channel, it is a small "backfire", as if the earphones were throwing a long fart. It is difficult for my to explain this noise in your language In the first moment I believed that it was a problem of the SRD-7, but when I disconnected the earphones I continued listening to this noise, I suppose that for the capacitive load of the cables. If I connect the earphones to the connector of low bias I do not listen to this noise. With music I don't listen this noise and the sound is good. These are the first electrostatic earph…

Please tell me how much headphones I need and the amp.

  18. Started by deepak,

It sounds so good out of a good amp and source (ppx3-slam nos tubes), but at the same time so good even out of a simple circuit portable. So sweeet with Clapton Unplugged, no harsh treble at all. Does anyone know what Powermax (if thats the name of the company) was selling them before the drama bomd ensued? edit: $530

In many threads concerning electrostats I come cross opinions that "you must get used to the electrostatic sound" and suchlike... Now I'm in a process of exploring my new Omegas. So can anyone explain what are the peculiarities that we must get used to?

dbi Pro705 Headphones | dbi International This is the headphone on those listening stations at HMV, I believe most of us have heard it. What do you guys think about it? It looks like German Maestro GMP 8.35 D or GMP 8.300 D too.

I heard that shure had changed the shure se530 cable formula in order to fix cable broken issue. Anyone know information about that? As I read on heafi, Shure changed the formula on June 08, so is it correct?

Hello everyone, Long time since I last posted, but I'm in need of a pair of closed headphones and what a better place to ask around and see how everyone is doing. So I had a son last year and listening to the speaker rig or akg 701 at night with the wife sitting next to me is pretty much impossible. A pair of closed headphones must be bought to maintain the levels of sanity in between diaper changes. Tyll highly recommends the nad viso and some other focal ones, but I remembered a couple of years ago the thunder pants were very well spoken of. Is smeggy still making these? Any other closed cans I should consider? I'd like to keep the budget below 500$. Amp ATM i…

  23. Is it possible to remove a grado driver and leave the cup intact? I want to remove some drivers from their plastic housings without cutting up the housing. I watched the grado assembly video on their site and they just pop in the front and are secured with a little CA I'm guessing. My though was to cut out as much of the driver as I could, then soak it face down in acetone. What do you think?

  24. Seems we always start a thread about some new headphone out there that doesn't fit into the usual Sennheiser, Stax, Grado, AKG, etc etc etc family. Why not keep it all in one place as these threads seem to not go beyond a few pages anyway? Just a thought (might be a dumbass thought, who knows). Anyway, I wanted to start off with this: http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/mozaex-bluwaves-7-1-hd-headphones-are-crazy-expensive-2012-08-1/

I have the Ether/Ether C on loan and I did some listening last night vs. my HD800S. TLDR Version The Ether is legit. I like it better than any Audeze I've heard. It won't be supplanting the 800S in my collection, but this is a legit good headphone. Frequency balance issues and price are its biggest weaknesses. Bass and comfort are its biggest strengths. Long Version For reference, my chain: iPad -> Wyrd -> Yggy -> XP-10 -> DSHA-4. Pros: Ether bass is fantastic. Waaaaay better than HD800S bass. Going back and forth you can really hear the distortion on the 800S. The Ether feels like it is clear an octave lower than the 800S. The…
