Folks, Looking for a DAC for my laptop. A/C powered is ok. Built in head amp, but I might get a mini3 later. Looking at the E-MU 0404 usb 2.0 for about $160 shipped. Any other ones in that price range that I should consider? Pete

The right channel went out on my ipod after only a few months so I sent it into apple. They said that the damage was caused by accident damage or abuse. I don't believe that I handled it in any neglectful way or there was accidental damage. Has anybody tried to force apple to honor a warranty after they have tried to deny a repair?

We'll my iPhone 6plus is getting laggy and the 7 is a non-starter for me (no headphone jack). I am giving up hope that Apple will go back to a 3,5 mil hp jack so enter the LG V20. I am trying to strip down my smart phone and basically use the phone - dap- camera-maps-email function but get away from instagram/facebook blah blah blah. So anyone here use the LG, I know Peter was a pretty big supporter. I would likely use Neutron as a player and load a large micro sd. I tried to read the HF thread but at 170+ pages with 90/10 noise to signal I gave up.

No, I don't mean concerts, I actually do mean recording stuff "in the field" -- I heard a really cool sound last night, and I didn't think of my iPhone (duh!), but even if I did, I want to get serious about this. I want to have access to a quality portable digital recorder at all times (I.E. if not actually with me, then with me as much as my iPod is). So, I realize this is not the best place to ask, so the question is mostly -- where should I go to ask this? Harmony Central? Any place else? I can't remember the music makers and producers forum that I used to frequent -- gear-freaks or something like that? Here are my choices so far, that I can figure: Tascam…

Seems like such an obvious thing, but Claire wants to download her new Wilco music onto her iPhone and listen to it. Post iTunes and on the streaming era I'm not sure what she should do.

Android 5 finally allows USB audio out. It was available in various forms on Samsung products, but is now baked directly in to Lollipop. In attempting to connect my Pico dac/amp directly (no hub) to my Lollipopped Galaxy S5, I am unable to send the digital audio out to the dac. The Onkyo app actually has a setting for USB Audio, but the phone just hangs and shows no love. I've had my Pico for years now, so maybe I need a newer version? Most googling sends me to the other site or to Korean sites with posts about other dacs. Google is not my friend. Justin - is this something you are familiar with? Is there a way to update my beloved Pico?

AMP3 DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: The AMP3 is the first product to be introduced to the audio marketplace by Hisoundaudio, a China-based company that, by their own description, is dedicated to producing audiophile-grade players that incorporate the oriental concept of music and art being inseparable. The AMP3 is designed to address the audio shortcomings of the current portable audio marketplace. Its design goals are to produce a player that incorporates the following characteristics: sound resolution, separation of the sound stage, a sense of power, and the flow of the music. Hisoundaudio flatly states that it is their design goal to produce audiophile-grade players…

I keep seeing more and more trusted people on headfi saying the Vcap iMod is as enjoyable as Pico dac (albeit they are different in sound signature and qualities). In the past I used to believe iMod was overrated, but now I'm basically convinced I want a Vcap iMod and I'm preparing some big money to get it. This thread (and your replies) will be the last trial before I commit. Hope you can helpz.

This piece of proprietary unwieldy drm shit & ue10pro would be beastly. fuck them imods and jamato batteries. a new age of protable audio is here. works with itunes too. I dont care much for this player, but what i'm looking forward is rockboxed possibilities. from sa-cd.net: Q. What is the DSD-P1? A. The DSD-P1 is an audiophile-quality portable music player/headphone amplifier which plays native DSD files recorded on new removable media called DSD-Card, and also PCM files from internal flash storage. Q. How does it differ from the popular iPod line of players? A. The DSD-P1 supports removable media. It also has quality discrete components and increased …

I have a 5 gen 60gb ipod that I've been using for a while. I dropped the ipod yesterday and it kind of broke on me. The audio outputs works but the screen outputs weirdly. I've dropped my ipod many times but this is the first time this has happened. When I press buttons or have any inputs (change volume), right bars on the screen move up and down. I was wondering if you guys would know if this could be fixed with a new screen or if it is a bigger issue.

Is it possible to find a high quality PCDP these days. Not concerned with anti-shock (will be used for desktop) or FM tuner. Mainly concerned with build quality, AC capable, and SQ out of lineout. Checked ebay and there are some older players, but can't find any info on them. All the new stuff that I have found seems to be nothing but shit.

Bonnie is participating in a charity secret Santa at her work, It's pretty swinging, actually. Each employee gets to expense $100 for gifts for some disadvantaged kid. Bonnie's kid is a 13 year old girl. She wants some typical "girl stuff" and an MP3 player. So, we need a circa $50 MP3 player. A quick perusal of Amazon suggests the Sandisk Sansa. But I have no idea what features are valued by the typical 13 year old girl. I do notice that the Sansa doesn't appear to support AAC. Is that a big problem? Do kids buy music from iTunes? Is 8 GB big enough? Would 4 be enough? (4 GB Sansas come in cool colors. The 8 GB one seems to be only in Model-T Ford black.) What about …

So after 5 continuous years of use with a 1/8" to tape adapter, the tape transport in my Subaru's stereo has bit the dust. I could look into getting the transport repaired or replaced, but it's probably simpler to get a Pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator FM transmitter for the 'Pod. I have a Belkin adapter that plugs in to my car's "power port" (cigarette lighter) and has an iPod dock connector. It powers the 'Pod and has a 1/8" jack. My car only has one power port, so I imagine I'll have to discontinue using the Belkin. I need an FM transmitter that has good signal strength and sound quality and can power the iPod. I live in a relatively rural area, so I shouldn…

I've found a good deal in a used pico amp only the battery is not so good, before I commit I want to see if anyone knows the cost for Justin to swap the battery (I know he's often takes him some time to contact him, and the first owner had asked but still no response for over a month). Or better yet if anyone has replaced the battery themselves, I've read the battery can be disconnected by removing the back panel but that's all I know.

I just got an 80 gig ipod. I have a macbook pro, and a desktop pc. Thing is, all of my storage is on the pc. What would the advantage be to running my ipod off of the mac (and I guess mapping the storage over) or using it just natively on the pc with windows file system. What is the benefit of using the ipod with mac in general? This is a retarded question, but I guess I'm stuck cuz i haven't started importing music to it cuz i cant make my mind up.

I saw that the SA-1 has been launched by my boys at Sleek. 3mm dynamic driver, not balanced armature . I heard this a couple weeks ago when I went down for custom impressions, and I'll say that for $80 this thing is pretty cool. Didn't bring my own source so I ended up borrowing an iTouch from Bill@Sleek. For now I'll blame a bit of treble strangeness on unknown encryption or something. These shine in the bass and midrange, and for the price could be a nice pair of beater IEMs, or an awesome gift.
