I need to get a better soldering iron than the one I currently have and was wondering if there are any opinions of the Weller WP35. It looks like a decent iron and is in the price range I can afford. A full electronically controlled station is too costly so this looked ideal for me. If you know of a better iron at around the same price (no higher) please advise.

I remember reading in a post somewhere that Frank was nice enough to release his schematic for his DHT amp, the dynamic version not the electrostat version. I would like to take a look at it. I'll send him a PM at headfi as well.

OK, so every year about this time, i decide to do something silly and over the top. Last year was the titanium hammer. I need ideas for this year. Has to involve computer controlled machine tools. Has to involve expensive raw materials... Obviously it has to be practically useless.

I was wondering if anyone knows what type of material is used for the inside tube of the z-sleeve? The outside looks like a giant piece of heatshrink. These caps are extremely transparent in the many uses I did. Both high voltage 600 and 1000 volts I’ve used them in dc blocking and seem to have a neutral sound has anyone tried these in Amps and pre amps I’m curious to know what others think I’m not a fan of anything oil as I feel they color the sound. In addition in stat amp builds 400 vdc seems on the edge of max range why don’t builders use 1000 vdc rated caps ? ABD0000C255.pdf

With all those new balanced amplifiers around I can't really resist and I want at least to have a taste of that heaven with a balanced 650, so, what is the most beautiful sounding but also simple DIY balanced amplifier in your opinion?

Lil knight among others have asked for an updated dynahi board. Here it is. http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/dynahi8.zip changes, remove 2sk389,2sj109, add lsk389,lsj109 2sk170,2sj74 you can use opa445 instead of op27 and then you don't need the 7815 and 7915. 2sa1349,2sc3381 can be replaced with the single versions. I need to check this a few more times. unbalanced input, balanced output version coming soon.

I'm having some of the teflon Stax jacks w/ the gold plated pins machined. I should have them in 4-6 weeks. I don't have the final price yet because I don't know what it will cost to have the pins assembled. But it shouldnt be more (probably will be less) than the jacks have previously been sold for and it will be excellent machining quality. I'm thinking of having some of the golden reference, dynalo, and alps quad pot boards made. The place I was thinking of using was seeedstudio.com Is there a better place for small runs? Their least expensive option is 1mm thickness, 1oz copper in green. Are those specs good enough?

It happened finally. Something killed the power supply on my apogee ensemble. No scorch marks visible, no fuse i can find, it just doesn't power up anymore. I've emailed apogee, but they stopped supporting these a few years ago. I just don't have thunderbolt on my mac pro, and really don't want to go through all that. So I'm torn between replacing it with another one, finding someone to repair it, or getting a metric halo.

Hello All... After realizing I missed out on the latest group buy I thought about having a run of boards made. I believe 3oz copper is recommended for the GRLV and in order to get the boards to an affordable price with that weight it looks like 20+ would do it. While I'm at it, is there any interest in ALPS quad pcbs as well?

Folks, I replaced all the electrolytic capacitors in my SRM-600. I can't say for sure if this has happened before, but this (photo) capacitor at 10V 4700uF is heating up. Not very much, around 55C. The headphones aren't plugged in. Can you tell me if this capacitor is in normal operation? Does it have to warm up? My SRM-600 for 230V voltage. First, I supplied a cheap Jamicon TKR472M1AJ26 capacitor. It was heating up.Then I decided to place EEUFR1A472L Panasonic Low ESR capacitor. However, it's warming up, too. I checked the diodes next to it - they're not broke. On the cap about 7V. Any other caps running cold. Only 4700uF/10V run…

Hi. I want to ask about Raspberry Pi Camera. I am absolute beginner. I want to make a project where Raspberry Pi camera send the image to the Raspberry Pi in greyscale and based on white or black, the stepper motor will rotate forward or backward. I want to ask, is it possible to make this project using Raspberry Pi or do I need to used other microcontroller also?

I published a modification for the Stax SRM-T1/T1S/006 in AudioXpress July 2017, which is just out. The modification adds 5.1 kilohm output safety resistors and cascoded constant current output loads, which with their heatsink fits the space vacated by the plate resistors - see photo. Spritzer did something similar a few years ago with an SRM-007, adding constant current loads, but he also changed to 6S4A outputs. Unlike plate resistors, constant current loads burn up practically no signal current, so while the stock amp burns up 9.2 mA signal current in the plate and feedback resistors at its specified 300 VRMS maximum output, the modified amplifier only …

OK, so I did something stupid and accidentally shorted the secondaries of an Avel Lindberg Y23 transformer for two seconds. The voltage seems fine after I corrected the error. Do you think it survived, and or what's the harm in using it?
