  1. Sorry about that, Larry. I truly am. At the same time, as hard as I'm sure as it must be to "see it" at times considering all that you've both been through (and will continue to go through for years to come, in one way or another)... but you we both among the lucky ones to have survived such a terrible accident. Many don't, and the point I was making really is that life can be so fickle. Here on minute, and gone the next. Thankfully, most of us are fortunate enough never to have had to experience anything so traumatic directly, and we really do wish you and your daughter a full recovery in every sense of the word.

Should I say that I am working on the L3 which combines aspects of both?
  3. There is certainly a theme of fried globs of unrecognizable animal in your pictures Colin.
  4. I dropped I dropped my Oxycodone dose from 10mg every 6 hours to 5mg every 8 hours and feel a bit better. Brown sugar and maple syrup flavored Malt-o-meal helped too. I missed out on the free sponge bath at the hospital since I went home early, and the wife was like "Nah..." So I washed myself up this AM and had my wife drop me off to get my hair cut and washed while she shopped. Can't wait for a hot shower in 2 weeks when the staples come out.
  5. I changed the resistors and it works like a charm. Just listened a few minutes with the 007A. Am I the first one from the GB who has it running? I wonder if others need the change the resistors too. With 150ohms I could just reach +20V, but I think it wouldn't reach down to 0. So maybe for those who have not started yet, order some 150ohms and 120ohms resistors just in case.

  8. Looks like he stopped at Kenji's house of tempura. Nice run!
  9. JH13s are definitely the best sub $100 IEMs available, if you can find a set for that.
  10. Yup, must use paste everywhere. I even put it between the panels which attach to the heatsink for better thermal behavior.
  11. I do put the thermal paste between the brackets and the heatsink. That way you'll have a better thermal transfer, IMO. Wachara C.
  12. Looks good insanity, what a stack! .... but you’ve lost symmetry with the centred volume control.
  13. I pulled the drivers out of the cups and swapped them to see if the issue was in the cable. Unfortunately the imbalance followed the drivers, but I did notice something strange about the quiet driver. Where the loud driver is shiny the quiet one has a kind of haze on the rear stator. It almost looks like a fungus of some sort. Here are some pictures of what I'm talking about. EDIT: I pulled the driver apart and found NO ARCING! The diaphragm was glued to the rear stator and has some hazy residue on it. I suspect this driver may have been exposed to some moisture or something explaining it's problems. Here's a picture of the diaphragm. I flipped the diaphragm over and reassembled the driver and now I'm getting full output from both drivers! Bass is present too. I think the perceived lack of bass was due to the channel imbalance. The good driver was working properly the whole time. Should I do anything to try and clean the diaphragm and stators, or should I just leave well enough alone and enjoy them now that they are working?

I did. I placed an order for a LDRxB. Will permit me to set up more than one DAC into the speaker system, and (I think) to take the direct stereo out of the Oppo for playing those discs that have proved difficult to rip. I like the company, their DIY support (good attitude), their 10% new-newsletter-subscribercustomer discount, and the reviews are encouraging. Been looking for a way to add a little flexibility to the system, without an active pre, and without breaking the bank on some of the commercial passives. Thanks @Craig Sawyers for the link.
  18. Another update coming, going from v4 to v4.1 and it's a pretty large upgrade. Complete rewrite of how search works, new version of the editor, among many other things. Right now I'm planning to do the upgrade on Wednesday sometime during the day.

That's like asking someone which of his children he loves more? Or in Doug's case, which cat?
  20. First shipping as of today. US/Canda + some others. Canda is going direct. US going by Jay.(people will receive pm with tracking) Another bach tomorrow. Then only a few will have to wait until late next week, where the remainder of the caps arrives. some packages may look a bit crusty, but every single cap has been wrapped in plastic bubbles, then the batch has been wrapped in bigger plastic bubbles (Mouser, pink)

Shelly has a DAC that was originally built as a one-off complement to one of the acrylic Black Diamonds, but has been subsequently separated from its pair. It uses a WM8741 DAC with DSHA style buffers and 1:1 nickel core output transformers.
