  1. Thread revival! Finally ordered something lol. I went with a blue uturn, ortofon OM5E and built in phono. Will hook up to existing emotiva DC1 thingy and emotiva actives. Didn't bother with the acryllic platter even though IT LOOKS SO PRETTY, nor the cue lever, because I am a big boy and can manually drop my needle nice and gently.

  6. Still on the fence. I have a ski trip in January that I committed to but I am fairly certain that skiing is out this year. My buddy wants me to go so we can drink whisky and hang out after he skies all day. I could partake in some of the now legal activity there but it's more fun when there is some risk involved I say. Will make a decision in the next day or two. My roomy backed out so will book a room nearby just in case. Not sure I will be able to keep up with you all but that's cool. It will still be great to see everyone.

  8. Posteigh didn't pay the bills, so his forum, along with the dearth of information and ideologies therein, are no more. Therefore, we default to HC Default of Team Minimal, which follows the teachings of ca. 2009 @boomana, which is "have all the things, and make them the best things, but make sure you have one for the office and one for home, and don't forget the portable one." **BRENT**

  10. 180g 2016 remaster of Pink Floyd's Animals for $30. Use this link if you want a copy, too, please. I get a credit. Every time they send me their daily suggestion via text, it's usually a decent -- but not the best -- price. The prices I'm seeing for 180g 2016 Animals right now is more in the $55 range. Since it's one of my favourite albums of all time -- if not my the favourite album of all time -- I'm a gettin' it.

  12. No - I've never been an academic. I did my first degree in electronics and then a doctorate in laser physics. But my career was first in professional consultancies and then in industry (including 7 years at Oxford Instruments - which is why we live here). And for the last 20 years as a self employed technology and business/management consultant. In fairness in my mid 20's I applied for a "new blood" lectureship at St Andrews University in Scotland. That was the strangest interview I have ever had, and decided academia was not a good fit for me (from my perspective didn't pay nearly enough, no prospects etc), and we parted company. Plus the clowns approached the CEO of the tiny 20 person company I worked for, for a reference without asking me first. So had I not left anyway to join PA Technology my career there would have been blighted. I did have a five year foray back into an academic environment in recent years, but as a self-employed large project manager. What particularly surprised and dismayed me is what a political and backbiting environment it is, particularly at a senior professorial level. Everyone watches their backs pretty much continuously, jockeying for position. I'd have hated that aspect of university life.

  18. The U-Turn folks are good people, I have had a couple email exchanges, and even met one of their founder's mom! She was helping her friend buy something I was selling on CraigsList (didn't want to go to a stranger's house alone), and we got to talking..... Enjoy the setup!

  22. Thanks, guys. It's sort of chronic -- I've learned to prevent sinus infections for the most part simply by keeping my sinuses clear, staying on top of all my allergy medicines. I've actually gotten so good at preventing sinus infections that even when I get sick and one of the symptoms is congestion, I can still take care of it by lots of gentle irrigation, but this one has me stumped. I can breathe through my nose right now, but I still have that -- WARNING: TMI, STOP READING HERE IF THIS SORT OF DISCUSSION MAKES YOU SQUEAMISH -- green discharge that I associate with a sinus infection. It's not the worst I've ever had -- with that sickeningly sweet smell -- but I'd usually be back to clear by now, so I don't know what's going on -- maybe there's a pocket that the irrigation isn't getting to. But yeah, one more day and I'm going back to the doctor.

  26. Didn't need a pain pill last night, though because of that I think I needed a deeper toilet this morning. TMI? I'm starting to see some healing happening too. Less blood on the gauze every time I change dressings. The part with no skin seems to be filling in and scabbing over, so that's good news. BTW, Back in 80' when I started college the US had a nice grant called the BEOG (Basic Educational Opportunity Grant). As my parents had no money to help with college, and I had no money myself, I qualified for full tuition and extra for books and such. I never had to take out a loan. Oh, the good ol' days.

  27. Andrew got his second college acceptance the other day. And another near-$20k merit grant! And his first acceptance, which was mistakenly Early Decision with $22k, is now a non-binding acceptance with $27k! It REALLY is too bad these are his #3 or #4 choices! Still waiting on #1 and #2 choices to come in. Think he'll get in to both no problem, hoping for decent merit $ from them, too; would be very pleasantly surprised if near the above.
