@Shelly - sorry to hear about the place. A good inspector that works for you is worth their weight in gold. Our inspector saw two, tiny, old, cut pipes barely coming into a dark corner of our cellar, near where the inside oil tank currently resides. This triggered an underground scan of the driveway just outside cellar wall, which discovered a huge underground oil tank. The inside oil tank conversion was done prior to the last owners who had lived there for ten years, and they claimed no knowledge until the scan. Long story still long, they paid for the old tank removal, soil testing (sale contingent upon not needing further remediation), & repaving. I am a firm believer that the right home appears when it is right for you though, so you have the right attitude. For the last week, and the next two weeks, I am a vacation fling for an Israeli woman (she cancelled her AirBnB on day three, and moved in), and she cooked a feast tonight. I don't have pictures, but it was excellent. Eggplant salad, shakshuka, something with lentils, something else that I can't remember what it was, but it had figs and was very good. I now know several words of Hebrew, and a few Arab curse words appropriate for when something sticks to a pan and burns.

Agree that you need to get a pretty high quality P&S to be much better than the top end phones these days. There is a camera space between top end phones and DSLRs, but even the least bulky of them are considerably more bulky than a phone. And if a digital screen is your end viewing option, then there is no quality benefit to a P&S, but many drawbacks. The biggest other advantage is probably that you can get a zoom lens, if you are the sort of heathen who likes such things. That said, if you want a serious camera for prints but a DSLR is too bulky there are a few good options. I recently got a Fuji X70 for travel. It is just small enough to carry around when I am actively wanting to take pictures, but I would never take it with me on just a day out. But it is a lovely camera built for old school camera types who want the ability to easily closely control the technical aspects of photography. The best feature of it is that it has a flip out screen that essentially emulates a medium format waist level finder of old. That's how I learned to really take pictures, so I really like it. If you want a zoom lens, the Canon G9x is pretty cool, as is the Sony RX100 series. In going from a vintage mid-2000's Panasonic plasma to a brand new OLED TV the biggest thing that stands out to me isn't the 4k resolution, its how good the lighting looks in HDR content. My goodness is HDR ever a game changer (at least for me). Thankfully almost every show Netflix and Amazon makes has HDR now. Some of my PS4 games also seem to have HDR patched in, and they look phenomenal as well. I don't see myself ever buying a 4k blu-ray player, but I would be curious to see HDR movies going forward.

Kevin has sent me all the pics now and well...I'm just shocked how bad the T8000 is. Now the circuit is blahhh to say the least and how exactly were Stax working on this for 3 years? Somebody looked at the stuff they already had three years ago and then remembered it again 6 months ago? I mean nothing is new here and that even extends to how this is built. Most of the innovation is just because of necessity while the rest could just have been used in the T1 from 1987. Seriously, links on a modern pcb with surface mount parts?

Meanwhile ... Inspired by a certain someone

I realized the other month that I haven't touched my DSLR in almost a year and have taken (in my opinion) some perfectly wonderful photos. So I'm in the camp that says ~90% of the time the phone is all you'll need and a good chunk of that is because the phone will always be with you. There's no camera that can be there when it isn't there, you know? I do look forward to replacing my phone (iPhone 6) with something a little better and admit to being drawn to the 7+ specifically for it's camera. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I've gotten to a place where I'll only use my phone as a camera but it's closer than I imagined it'd be 5 years ago and wouldn't be surprised if we're pretty much there in less than 5. Shooting sports is about the only place I think to bring the big rig and most days it just doesn't happen.

Colin has the X70, and I've used it on a couple of trips. It's brilliant, and it will connect to your phone easily to upload photos from the phone. That being said, one can do a lot with a good phone. Taking pics of kids, though, has left me wanting something faster than my phone for action shots/trying to get shots in rapid succession to catch the perfect expression... typically too much motion blur with phones. **BRENT**

New Broken Social Scene on Tidal.

Finally finished my one. Goes back to 2013 but i am a slow builder. Works like a charm, turned on and everything adjusted up as expected. No noise i can detect and as i used heat sinks 4" high i do not have any heat problems. For those interested i used a smoked acrylic top to the amp and put my led's on the top and fitted Kerry's 1" OLED display front center of the amp under they acrylic and with a cool blue display sure looks sexy. I am crap at taking pics so that is why there are none. Thanks to Kevin, Kerry and Birgir for another great project.

I've been collecting T2 parts for nearly two years. Almost done with that phase. Hope to get to the build within the next year... just need to force myself to dive into it and be mentally prepared not emerge for a solid 2-3 weeks.

Kerry did a very, very nice thing (thanks again!) so I will be building one eventually as well now. Terrified to calculate the total cost of the thing, though...

Transformers are on it way, but still waiting on chassis before heading into some "headaches". Hopefully I can achieve it on time for Christmas with a lot of stuff going on, and to finally be enjoying the "legendary performances of Stax"

@P3t4: You generally mount boards on standoffs. You will need to drill the case, and heatsinks, to do this. Alternatively, make a CAD file and have a machine shop do that for you. Front Panel Express does this well and even provides a simple CAD program for doing this. Rather expensive, though. Modushop cases come only with the screws necessary to assemble them. You can also get a case at Cam Expert who I believe can also do customizations, but no idea about prices or heatsink availability. McMaster-Carr carries a wide selection of mounting hardware (and a million other things). For wire, I buy PTFE 600V-rated spools from Bulk Wire. Good for most builds. On that subject, though, do you know how to safely work with high-voltage electricity? You must have a grasp of safety technique. If you short-circuit one of these power supplies while touching a rail, it can stop your heart. That's why I suggested you start with a Dynalo+GRLV. You'll have to solve similar construction and wiring problems, but the circuit is much safer to work with.

That's too bad, Shelly. When we had the inspection done on our house, the inspector was literally laughing during the process. He thought nobody would be dumb enough to buy a house that needed so much work. But he had not met the likes of us! We managed to get the seller to do $35K worth or maintenance - basically everything significant mentioned in the report. I think the agents on both sides were shocked that he agreed to it.

Nice hike at Hawk Mountain in PA, while the hike was listed as hard I was not expecting the intense scrambles that lasted for seemed like about a mile. The view at the top was worth it!

Finished up the separate "Universal" PS that will be used to power my GG. Maybe try it with a Carbon later.
