  1. Almost three years later, I'm finally working on this again. This is such an epic project as well...it is certifiable. The front panel is finished and mounted to the top plate. So very busy... Power knob on the left, volume on the right. Four 50K pots in the upper left hand corner to adjust the output stage offset and balance. Two 5K pots in the lower right hand corner with all the test points. Those cost a bloody fortune but were the only ones to fit in those holes. All 10 turn wire wound Bourns pots as well. TKD 4CP601 volume control as it fit the front panel perfectly. Not sure what to do with that gaping hole but might have a MA logo etched onto some plexiglass and illuminate it. Here it is even busier. The amplifier is mostly ready, just need to wire up all the test points and the 5K balance pots. Bias supply for the HE90 socket is in place but how I'm going to mate this to the power supply I just don't know. It has to go on the bottom of the chassis with two fairly large transformers and two PSU boards. It's a little bit like building a ship in a bottle... The PSU is up next so wish me luck.

  5. I had no idea what the Eitr really was until I checked the Schiit site. Looks a bit interesting. But seriously, on the company's web page, they say it's pronounced like "eater." Did they really just come out with a Shit-Eater?

  14. Eleanor and the kids are away, so I've been building a brutal recording desk. All rough 1x6 lumber, logged and milled here on the farm and exposed to the weather for way too long. When I move it downstairs I'll put the keyboard on a tray under the desktop. I think the monitor risers might be too high but aside from that I'm really happy with how it's turning out.

  21. They've honestly been less scary than I feared, but that has mostly been Trump and gang incompetence. What I'm worried about is McConnell. A lot of awful things can happen before the mid-term elections, and that is assuming that people actually get out and vote, come November 2018.

  22. Maybe McCain, facing his immediate mortality, from a disease that is being treated by healthcare paid for by the government, could have seen that pushing this vote forward would hurt millions of people, including lots of people in similar situations to what he is facing, but instead he did what he always does, which is march in lockstep with the Party. Party uber alles! Party uber alles! He's always been a piece-of-shit hypocrite, and will remain one until he dies.

  23. He acts on what he believes in, even though I generally disagree with him. That's why he doesn't care if the POOTUS is in the same party, and that's something I can very much respect. I've usually always referred to stuff like this in that I "like them as a person" with politics, but respect is a better way to describe it. I disagree with McCain, but I respect him. I disagree with Trump, and do not respect him. Though I do agree with T$ that McCain really needs to retire. Very soon.

  25. I hadn't really thought about it much but yeah, newer cars sure do seem to have the engine bay packed to the gills with... stuff.

  26. It is amazing how far engine technology has come in one respect and yet how similar they are to what they were decades back. The environment has arguably had the biggest impact on technology in the last few decades. Pretty amazing stuff when we set our minds to it... My primary bitch is the lack of space in an engine compartment when you have to wrench on a car. It's nuts how I can look straight down to the ground on my '78 Datsun 280Z and I can't see much of anything on my newer rides. Even changing plugs can be an adventure... HS

  33. Before you buy a standard GRUT, try to find a Tribute to 1931 version for a reasonable price. I couldn't justify the 1931 price, at the time, and I'm very happy with my GRUT, but the Tribute is more special.

  35. The one other thing to know is imgur does process images for lower filesize, so it's not suitable if you want to have jpgs at very high quality settings. 99% of images it isn't noticable, but if it's for high res photography the compression artifacts may become visible.

  36. Is what you're looking to do outside of imgur's realm? It's been the de facto image hosting site for years now.

  37. The cancellation of that JLC Master Ultra thin Automatic has been done, and the servicing of my JLC manual is back on. Now as I mentioned I'm now going to get a JLC Grande Reverso 2788520 Manual wind, so here are some photos of that watch which I think is very nice looking. I also like it with the black leather strap, so when I have that watch I won't be changing the strap for a JLC SS bracelet like I am with my Master.

  40. I've decided to cancel that service of my JLC Master Ultra thin ( manual wind ) Reks, ( assuming I'm not too late ) and instead it's being used as part exchange for the JLC Master Ultra thin shown in the photos, but is an automatic. Now that automatic JLC also has a brown leather strap, so I'll eventually get a JLC SS bracelet for that watch. Before a bracelet though, I'll be getting a double auto watch winder from the same place I'm getting that auto JLC.
