  1. I've been continuing to train pretty hard this year and am now back to commuting to work on the bike. Had a nice tailwind on the way home today and was racing impending storms so I pushed hard.

  2. The first two look interesting and they both use ESS Sabre chips so I know I like that sound (if properly utilized). The Schiit does not do DSD (as far as I can tell) which makes it non comparable since I am looking at affordable DACs that do native DSD. Here is the Mytek on the iFi rack

  3. I should listen to this more often. I feel better about the world -- or at least forget a lot of the shit going down -- while it is playing.

  6. Hey everyone, For those who don't know, Kristen (kids' mom) has worked at Seattle Humane since it opened its new facility about 2 years ago. They've been largely closed to the public and have had most of their animals in foster care during COVID, but their situation is starting to change and they're now able to take in some more surgeries/surrenders and start helping animals and families in this area again. I've gotten to hear some of the amazing work they've been able to accomplish with keeping/placing/helping out, and I'm pretty happy to be a part of it. We've fostered multiple special needs dogs, and even adopted a mostly-deaf and mostly-blind miniature poodle we fell in love with, but lost this year. Seattle Humane 's Rescue Squad is doing a "Day of Giving" fundraiser and I wanted to pass it along if anyone is interested in helping out. I kicked it off with a donation in ZoëBellë's memory, but there are options specifically for dogs/cats/foster/older animals/special needs/etc. Thanks for taking a minute to look. Brent

  7. ^ How about we start a thread of de-depression music? I think we could all use suggestions. Shirley Scott's One for Me. Sample...

  8. oh for sure, those early 90s mountain bikes were basically 26" road bikes with knobby tires. I threw a goofy touring handlebar setup, because the frame is way too big for me to use with drop bars, and I wanted to ride it longer distances and be able to change up hand positions.

  9. I've seen you shoot a gun and drive a car, Brent, so I would suggest that you stick with car games because you'll clearly kill way more people that way.

  13. I agree. I do think the Koss 95X/950 can sound good, especially if you liberate them from the pedestrian energizer they come with and use whichever better amp you use to play your STAX, but they aren't really similar to the 007.

  14. Now completed mini T2 with the new boards version .23. Squeezed in film caps with 0.8 mm leads on right channel with 0.76 mm hole diameter, elevated and soldered both sides (see below). Both channels worked right away. Only issues I’ve found with those new boards are mentioned in posts above.

  16. It would be interesting to play Killing Floors with someone that has actually shot a gun before.

  17. Both the Topping D50s and the SMSL SU-8 are selling for $249. which is about $150 cheaper than I found the Pro-Ject box on Audio Advisor ($399). If you want a Balanced DAC Schiit seems to have their's together and have come out with their Modius model at $199 that is using the AKM 4493. ASR put it in the middle of their top Tier of DAC measurements so it may be one of the best bang for the buck units around.

  19. FWIW I liked Lee Marrow's eurodance productions. "Baby Baby" is nearly as good as "Rhythm of the Night" even if it didn't chart in the US at all.

  20. An interesting thing to try for those of you who may have 007 mk1 pads lying around, try putting them on the ES-1a. I've tried 007 mk2 pads and the effect of those pads is quite different. The mk1 pads significantly linearizes the midrange, taking the excess energy around 1-1.5khz down a bit and pulling the presence region (2-5khz) up a bit. It also makes the ES-1a slightly less hot in the treble past 8Khz, which I find is a welcome change. For me personally the 007 pads also seal better on the head, and since the leakage tolerance of electrostatic headphones is quite low this is a welcome change. I wouldn't say the tonality is ideal with these pads either, but it's about as close as I've come to it.

  21. I've got Koss 950, so unless the Koss 95X sounds totally different from the 950. Which I doubt, I don't see how 007 Koss 95X tuned alike.

  23. Bohlander-Graebner ribbon super tweeters and Dayton Audio full range drivers, both from Parts Express. Luvdunhill did all the calculations for interior volume, port and he built the crossovers. They sound amazing! I liked the way I grooved the Cherry baffles, so decided to make the new rack a similar look. There's a little more about the speaker build on pages 13 and 14 of this thread.

  24. That's sweet Nate! As for me... I'm planning on getting back into vinyl, so I purchased a Parasound Zphono USB. I can also digitize any albums I might want to. But that left me with a dilemma, as the rack I built for My Parasound Z stack won't fit any more gear. So today I built a new rack to accommodate all seven Z units. It's in the first coat of finish, and I still need to attach the rack mounting hardware, but it might just resemble the speakers I built about 2 years back. Pics within a few days.

  25. So, back on topic, I decided to get back into DIY and actually build something. Parts Express Executive Bluetooth Speaker. The cabinet still needs finishing, but it works and sounds pretty darn decent.
