Just got driven into the city. Sitting at UCSF waiting for cataract surgery. I only have a cataract in my right eye, but it's gotten bad. I can't see anything but a blury light out of that eye. I was scheduled for surgery last April, but Covid changed all that. It's going to be absolutely amazing to be able to see out of that eye again, and have my depth perception back.8 points

Surgery went well. I'll have a patch on until tomorrow, so can't really assess my vision just yet.5 points

#ducttape Knucks, the risk of visiting the Dr (even the eye one) with even the most basic of precautions is extremely minimal. If you're two weeks post the first jab you've got ~80% immunity and the Dr's office is probably fully vax'd.4 points

This is a new series premiering Sunday on AMC. It's staring Anne Frances Murphy, who played Alexis on Schitt's Creek. Looks to be a Black comedy. Certainly looks to be worth a try.2 points

Yesterday Enjoyable for the first few songs, but it's basically the same song 12 times. It's too bad because they've got that grimy groove thing working.2 points

I saw Apogee and immediately thought But then I clicked the link, and it wasn't *that* Apogee! Equally interesting though.2 points

Fair point, I've admittedly not stayed current on some of that having been jabbed twice. I still think and believe that with a mask and basic precautions you can lead a relatively unencumbered essential-task life (like going to the eye doctor) without much fear of COVID.2 points

Every time I hear "Delta Variant" I think of a bunch of Mississippi rednecks spreading the virus by having incestuous sex. Is that bolstering stereotypes?2 points

"Sony shipped a Celine Dion CD with a copy-protection mechanism that kept it from being played on Sony PCs." Genius đ2 points

Same here. Had a couple ATRAC players, both shown in the video. Loved the size, sound, and physicality of it. Strangely rejected someone giving me their MD player about a decade ago. That was a mistake. Still miss my MZ-R70. Moved to the 6GB Creative NOMAD Jukebox. Then seemingly downgraded to a shiny 5GB Apple iPod. I've never wanted anything as quickly as I did that 1G iPod. Even switched my operating system to support it. Nothing seemed as... is beautiful the right word?...until the 1G iPhone. But the Sony MDs were no doubt beautiful too. I won't comment on the Nomad. Anyway, Sony and portable audio always reminds of the article The Civil War Inside Sony https://www.wired.com/2003/02/sony-4/2 points

When I was in fifth grade, my class took a field trip to the George Eastman Museum, in Rochester, New York, as the fifth graders at my rural elementary school, 30 minutes south of the city, did every year. Housed in a Colonial Revival mansion built for the founder of the Eastman Kodak Company in 1905, the museum is home to one of the most significant photography and film collections in the world. But our job there was to stare at old cameras the size of our bodies, marvel at the luxury of having a pipe organ in your house, and write down what a daguerreotype is to prove that weâd been paying attention. At the end of the tourâin a second-story sitting room full of personal artifactsâwe were presented, matter-of-factly, with a copy of Eastmanâs suicide letter, dated March 14, 1932: âMy work is done. Why wait?â Eastman shot himself in the heart with a Luger pistol at the age of 77. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2021/07/kodak-rochester-new-york/619009/1 point

Full face helmet for bike parks and other primarily downhill trail systems which are served by chairlifts or lift shuttles, open face helmets for almost everything else.1 point

I had a pair of Apogee Duetta Signature in the early 90âs. Itâs the one piece of audio gears I regret most for foolishly selling.1 point

I have to say that even though some of their ideas were overlooked due to other formats, that doesn't mean that they were inferior. I had a Sony ES HiFi betamax deck in the 80's. It cost me an astronomical $1,100.00 at the time. But with it's ability to record and play in beta 1 speed and it's jog/shuttle dial, that machine kicked some serious VHS ass! I had a JVC HiFi VHS deck too. I'd rent movies in VHS, because there weren't any betamax movies to be found. But I'd record those movies onto the betamax. I'd also record music onto betamax tapes, then use it like a real to real to play hours of music at parties. That kept people from screwing with my audio system.1 point

Yeah, no need for the USB at all, however there is a pass through Neutrik NAUSB3-B for USB3 as well. Eager to hear it soon. Will then custom made the case. I will put the DAC board to the back panel directly flush mounting the XLRs to keep signal path short and use the terminal blocks for the chinch connectors (to have them just in case). Yes, one can solder directly to the XLR jacks. Using a ribbon cable between the Pi and the Pecan.1 point

Interesting. I was an early adoptor of the format. I could carry 5 or so discs with me and have 10 times the volume that my friend had on his Rio mp3 player. I also liked the "mix tape" capabilities. I had a nice Sony portable MD deck as well as a top end Sony ES home deck.1 point

hi! i would like to share my work with you. i am working on a small susy dynalo but with grlv psu and much better cooling capacity. also i will change the pzta tranzistors with toshiba 2sc2881 and 2sa1201 because they do not heat as much as pzta for some reason, and they are smaller (sot 89). it is a work in progress. for now i only developed an amp (one channel) and psu section without anything else. in following pictures you can see one amp channel and psu with meanwell switchers feeding the grlv (maybe i will put a transformer). bottom side of the pcb has exposed copper (large white spots) which will make contact with case to have more thermal mass. as you can see, there are lots of vias and they connect top and bottom part of pcb around output transistors to increase thermal surface. size of one channel section is 42x87 mm, and psu section is 98x61 mm. so i plan to fit finished project in 150x150mm case. i am a student so it will take time to build this thing, and of course a lot of hard earned money . i hope you like it! pictures: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1x2SQcV86kyMJL18twtRnseKntS9kgVBa?usp=sharing1 point

Thanks, @starcat đ¤ Does anyone have any leads on LSJ109? (Side question, the LSJ109 doesn't look like a dual JFET so would I need a matched pair of these to replace a single 2SJ109?)1 point

Hi! i would like to share my work with you. I made an dynalo amp powered by grlv power supply and a pcm1794a/cm6631a dac. Everything is totaly made by me. I also designed the pcb nd ordered it from JLCPCB. Amp offset voltage stays at max +-1mV and it is totally silent. Case is DOUK AUDIO. pictures: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a6cbGFpN6s5EadR8DA_lb21ZFwOwzK4R?usp=sharing1 point

I might just buy that NOS pair. The guy has a "make offer" option. In other news, this week is shaping up to be a gold star one: I now have two glasses halves balanced precariously on my face. I'm sure I look like an idiot, but fortunately no one else is around. I put them on last night, felt a weird cracking sensation, then both halves slid off my face. I'm overdue for a new glasses 'scrip, but my plan (of the "Mice and Men" variety) was to get my second vaccination jab (in two weeks) then wait two more weeks for full immunity then visit the eye doctor. That is no longer an option. :headdesk: I am clumsy and blind. It's hell to get old.0 points
