  1. I like to start my beans on high, get them to a boil, then crank them down to medium low and cover. If you're not careful you can burn the beans on the bottom. However, even if you do all is not lost. Adding about a tablespoon of peanut butter to the pot and mixing it thoroughly will take away the burnt taste. I learned this at my parents Mexican food restaurant many decades ago. The cornbread is done, and is lonely. It'll be about 3 more hours until it gets to unite with the beans. Longer if you don't soak your beans for several hours first.

  2. I am so excited for Diablo 4. I'm going to try and take Friday off to go full degenerate if I can finish my work for the week by the end of the day tomorrow. Early reviews sound fantastic.

  3. Just started a large pot of Pinto beans, and just mixed up a large pan of corn bread. It's my favorite meal, and I'm making enough to eat off of all week, or freeze some. The hamhock is buried, but it's there. My Mother's recipe uses chili powder, but I prefer it without. Salt, pepper and minced garlic are my preferred seasonings.

  4. It is summed up in the last sentence: "I’ll choose magic, if only it didn’t come at such costs". And that sums it up - everything Dyson is a major investment. About the most affordable, and something I bought for MrsS, was a Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. It is still not cheap, but is is quiet, powerful and light. But would I spend three times that for a Dyson vacuum cleaner? Well no. I've just fixed our twenty year old Sebo with a new mains lead from eBay (the old one was chewed), and some duct tape over a hole in the base. It does the job, and the green thing is to keep it going until is really does keel over.

  7. Seeing Beyond the Beauty of a Vermeer https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/25/magazine/vermeer-beauty-brutality.html?src=longreads “I am still moved by the quiet miracle of that boyhood afternoon. But my relationship with art has changed. I look for trouble now. No longer is a Vermeer painting simply “foreign and alluring.” It is an artifact inescapably involved in the world’s messiness — the world when the painting was made and the world now. Looking at paintings this way doesn’t spoil them. On the contrary, it opens them up, and what used to be mere surface becomes a portal, divulging all kinds of other things I need to know.”

  8. This one has been brewing for a while now but since I wanted to build a nice balanced amp it moved up in line. Basic setup is the same as the old Dynalo but now with Super Symmetry input, higher rail voltages and naturally a bit more power. Input stage changed to THAT340 which is a quad bipolar transistor array with matched NPN and PNP pairs. It is cheap and easy to source so no jfet drama. The other transistors are new as well and the pinout is different to reflect that. Here is a look at the new PCB design which is pretty much ready: It is 138*86mm. Another thing from the same vein is a fully discrete unbalanced to balanced circuit that we have been working on so no DRV134 garbage. I'll start with this one though and order some proto boards this week.
