February 27, 201511 yr Author Not a trekkie either, but Spock was an iconic character who has always reminded me of the simpler times and of my happy, small town childhood. You played him oh so well Mr. Nimoy. RIP. Edited February 27, 201511 yr by Wmcmanus

February 27, 201511 yr [tweet] A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP — Leonard Nimoy (@TheRealNimoy) February 23, 2015
February 28, 201511 yr Dislike! If one was to somehow average out the impact any actor has had on me, Leonard Nemoy probably wins. Definitely the loss of whom I have felt most in the 16 months or so that this thread has existed. Edited February 28, 201511 yr by cetoole
February 28, 201511 yr Good piece - Remembering Leonard Nimoy’s Mr. Spock, One of History’s Greatest TV Charactershttp://www.vulture.com/2015/02/remembering-leonard-nimoys-mr-spock.html?mid=twitter_nymag "The show's affinity for Shakespearean flourishes is well-documented, but in in a sense, Spock himself might be the most Bard-like character of them all: He's a green-blooded Othello who has to be twice as good as the full-blooded human officers to earn their respect, and who must tamp down his natural passions despite constant racist needling and doubts about his loyalty." March 2, 201511 yr If one was to somehow average out the impact any actor has had on me, Leonard Nemoy probably wins. Definitely the loss of whom I have felt most in the 16 months or so that this thread has existed. His death has hit me a lot harder than I'd expected.
March 2, 201511 yr Author RIP Minnie Minoso, another pioneer in terms of race relations in professional sports. http://www.wsj.com/articles/minnie-minoso-mlbs-first-black-latino-star-dies-1425232870 My dad, who grew up watching him play and was a huge White Sox fan for his entire life, just thought the world of him and always felt that he should have made the Hall of Fame. They had their chance again this year (via the veterans committee) and yet again blew it. Now that he's dead, I'm sure the schmucks will finally elect him in like they did several years ago with Ron Santo.
March 2, 201511 yr RIP Orin Keepnews Weird, but the last time I saw Clark Terry, I sat next to Orin, he fell asleep and his head rested on my shoulder till the set was over. He was a huge part of jazz in America. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/orrin-keepnews-jazz-producer-and-historian-dead-at-91-20150301
March 2, 201511 yr Wow Steve, reading the RS obit, he was pretty huge in jazz circles. RIP Orin. And thanks for getting some very awesome music to our ears.
March 2, 201511 yr Wow, RIP Orin Keepnews. Indeed, he is responsible for a lot of great music sounding great. I just got a Clark Terry album "Serenade To A Bus Seat" and that's Keepnews....will be even more a special listen now.....
March 6, 201511 yr Damn. R.I.P. Albert Maysles. With his brother, undeniably foundational documentarians and filmmakers. Salesman, Gimme Shelter, Grey Gardens, When We Were Kings, Iris, etc. Brave dude. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOctxi_tvG8
March 7, 201511 yr His record of achievements is phonominal and spans many decades before and after Star Trek. What an immensely talented and versatile actor and producer. RIP Mr. Spock...
March 12, 201511 yr Crap indeed. I'd like to think at least he got to find out if Death really does use ALL CAPS. Time to reread the entire discworld saga. Edited March 12, 201511 yr by Grahame
