And play with positioning and with ampage -- IIRC, AKG's weren't that sensitive to the amps that drove them (although they did scale a little), but the home (non-pro-orientated ones) were pretty sensitive to positioning on the head.

The K1000s are great ear speakers, but I wouldn't say they're good for binaural recordings -- quite the opposite -- they're good for speaker-like imaging,

And here's the issue, to some degree.  Everyone here has owned (or at least heard) every notable thing AKG has ever made.  K1000, K340, K240, K701, etc.  I even have a K81DJ, which was first heralded as "the closed Grado".  We know the lineup, and for the most part don't care about anything but the 340/240 and the K1000, all of which are out of production. 

 

There's nothing wrong with your journey through headphones, we all made one more or less in public, but this is a tough place to grow up.  If you want to stay, be warned that anything related to your "kopfhörersroman" (You are welcome, Dusty) will be met with some skepticism.  

 

Also, the notion of burn in is total bullshit.

I actually still have some AKG K240M 600 ohm, and preferred them to my K1000 since they're easier to drive and sound wonderful with my ZDT amp.

 

The eBay seller I got them from bought an unclaimed storage unit that he said belonged to Stevie Wonder's ex-wife, including tape decks and receivers with brail labels on them, and these headphones were in that lot of gear. They smelled like hair gel, so does that prove Stevie Wonder used these?

What I posted actually did have a basis in reality - they smelled very strongly of hair gel, and in my chats with the eBay seller he used that fact as partial proof or provenance of who the previous owner was. He could give me no other evidence other than photos of all the braille labels on the rest of the audio gear.

 

When I recalled those chats as I made my post about the K240M, I thought it was slightly funny but I admit I shared it the wrong way.  I should have just told my story surrounding the purchase and the seller's claims -  if I posted in bad taste then I understand being called out for that, and I am sorry, but calling me racist?  

 

I've used hair gel too, so am I a racist against myself as well?  Sorry, but there ISN'T A RACIST BONE IN MY BODY.  You can try to judge me all you want, but you don't know me or what's in my heart.  But now that you've shamed me into submission and made me feel bad, do you feel better?

 

When I sell any of the gear that I currently have in the "for sale forum" I am going to give 15% of the funds collected to Todd to give to his charity of choice, including the NAACP or any LGBT organization. Todd can take the tax write-off so I won't benefit from it.

I don't even know why I respond, because you will just scour through my post and pick out something to misinterpret and use against me.

 

I also posted in the for sale forum before before I knew that the shit hit the fan here, because the people in the "other thread" told me that only a few people read that thread and that those who did read were not interested.  I picked here first because you guys are usually the best people to deal with when selling and buying.  

 

And, Tyler and I hung out several times over the years when he lived in Colorado, and we've shared gear and bought and sold with each other before (I still have the turntable he sold me), so it's nothing new to talk about those things with him.

I dunno, I think we're all being a little hard on HPA. I'm sure he can distinguish Stevie Wonder's black people gel from his own white people gel, because black people have a certain black people smell to them, Stevie in particular. 

 

BTW, I have a pair of old 1970's vintage phones that I bought off eBay for $1,000 that was worn by the infamous murderer Jheri Curl on the night Cookie-Head got killed. I know it was his, because it smells strongly of jheri curl activator. And the negroes of that era wore a lot of activator. I can prove it here:

Also, I have a pair of headphones that Woody Allen wore on the set of Manhattan. I know it was his, because it smells like that stuff Jewish people wear to keep their yarmulkes on their heads.  It's pretty distinct, it's strong, and, having grown up in a Jewish neighborhood, and having a lot of Jewish friends (thus proving I'm not Anti-semitic), I know that odor anywhere. You may ask how I know it wasn't just any Jewish person, but I'm pretty sure there's a bit of black people smell, too, and Woody used to show up in New York jazz clubs to play jazz clarinet, and there are a lot of black people at jazz clubs. How many headphones smell of both Jewish AND black people? (*Disclaimer - the jazz shot captured here does not show actual black people in it. However, it is a fact that black people love jazz, so that's proof enough*)

 

 

 

 

And finally, the best vintage headphones in my collection. A pair that Bruce Lee wore on the set of Entering the Dragon, the best martial arts movie ever made. You may ask how I know that it's Bruce Lee's. Well, it smells like egg rolls. And, being Chinese, I KNOW the smell that Chinese people who have used that Chinese oil to fry egg rolls in. It's very distinct, I grew up with it in my house, and my whole damn family smells like it. I can smell a Chinese person walking towards me from a mile away. It's not BAD mind you, it's very familiar, and it reminds me of warm feelings, growing up in my happy, fuzzy Chinese household eating egg rolls all the time. My non-racist friends used to comment on my egg roll smell all the time. It never bothered me at all, it made me feel good, because when I cried, they would always say to quit being so sensitive, they're my friend, after all! We would then fight, them trying to hit me, and me dodging them in a variety of incredible kung fu moves, even though I never took kung fu lessons, and the words emanating from my mouth oddly not matching my mouth movements.
