June 10, 201313 yr ^ No surprise there. The Pro systems have slightly slower cores, just more of them. Unless you know you are going to be running a bunch of multithreaded apps that can really take advantage of the Pro systems the iMac and mini are probably a better bet. Still. That new Pro is just way too darn sexy. Check out the new product page on the Apple website. http://www.apple.com/mac-pro/ Oh my goodness is that ever hawt. Edited June 10, 201313 yr by TMoney
June 10, 201313 yr Would love to have a desktop without a built in monitor that is more powerful than a mini and not as expensive as a Mac Pro for the office. Unfortunately, since it will be property of the university, I can't do a hackintosh (well, I probably shouldn't). Edited June 10, 201313 yr by shellylh
June 10, 201313 yr My solution is using the Mac Pro for the computational shit and the MBA for everyday shit.
June 10, 201313 yr I'll probably try a Hackintosh next time I replace my computer. Between iPad and work-issued laptop, my MBP has become a glorified desktop. It doesn't help the MBP generally has 3-4 external drives connected to it at all times. Really should invest in a TB dock w/ USB3.
June 10, 201313 yr iBook on OS X, airdrop and activation lock! Apple is listening to their customers.
June 10, 201313 yr Nothing new on MBP? Damn, that Dark Tower is teh seks. I'm not particularly an Apple fanboy by any means, but when Apple puts out a Haswell based MBP, I'm going to be quite tempted indeed. Intel's claims about significant battery savings seems to be true.
June 10, 201313 yr I have no need for the power and speed of that new Pro, but slap me silly, man, do I want one! I'm out on a ledge. Somebody stop me.
June 11, 201313 yr I am unconvinced on the idea of external GPU enclosures. I understand they're useful in some cases, but I have no clue why they're pushing so hard to implement them.
June 11, 201313 yr because most people don't need them, and it's better to be able to add them to whatever computer, rather than have to have something specifically designed for it.
June 11, 201313 yr for MBAs with longer battery life! This! I've been wishing and waiting for an 11" MBA with the battery life of the 13" for a few years now. I think this is it! Any reason not to take the plunge?
June 11, 201313 yr ^^^ seriously? You are asking this crowd whether to buy something? j/k from all accounts, these new MBAs ARE the droids you have been looking for.
June 11, 201313 yr Ha! Good point, Gene! Well, sometimes someone comes up with a good technical reason for waiting. Maybe someone heard Haswell doesn't play nice with Mountain Lions, who knows.
June 11, 201313 yr I've been wishing and waiting for an 11" MBA with the battery life of the 13" for a few years now. I think this is it!Thinkin' the same.
June 11, 201313 yr Thinkin' the same.Alright, let's go, then! Edit: Done. MBA 11" , i5, 8 GB, 256GB Your turn, Ric! Edited June 11, 201313 yr by jvlgato
June 11, 201313 yr Wow, that was fast, John. Impressive. Let us know when it arrives, and how it compares.
June 11, 201313 yr Alright, let's go, then! Edit: Done. MBA 11" , i5, 8 GB, 256GB Your turn, Ric! Nice!
June 11, 201313 yr The Mac Pro's lack of PCIe slots is going to send shockwaves through the pro audio and pro video markets. Especially with AVID and Pro Tools customers.
June 11, 201313 yr I think the new AirPort Extreme will be making its debut in the Novak Chateau before the end of summer.
June 11, 201313 yr New version of OSX uses windows file sharing by default I'm kinda surprised, didn't expect Apple to go so far as to adopt SMB2 as the default protocol.
