phillips head is clearly wrong for this type of screws as the center will chip when tightening. slotted would be better. not sure how socket would do

  • After 5 years from the time I acquired the PCBs and parts, I finally took advantage of the free time created by the pandemic and completed my KGSSHV.  This is the offboard version with +/-500V supply.

  • Not sure if we have a KGSS thread but I'll just post this here.  So last year it dawned on me that I built my first KGSS amp 15 years ago and something had to be done to celebrate that.  It started of

the phillips design is one of the worst for durability and slippage.

Here is the problem, which type of Philips is that?  There are two main types and some other less well known versions.  That's why we like those boxes full of assorted bits...   :)

trying to test the max torque on the aluminum oxide screws

1.25 lb-in: yes

1.5 lb-in: philips head strips (chips) with any of my screwdriver heads. will need to try a different type of head to go further

1.3 lb-in is the recommended torque for the PEEK screws.

Does anybody think this is a bit too much?  ;D

I was tired of buying transformers piece by piece when most of my other parts are bought it bulk.  Well... I decided to buy some transformers in bulk.  The truly bizarre bit is that this whole lot (about 130kg) was shipped via EMS to me.  :)

They are 335-420V@160mA (50 pieces) and 450V@160mA (10 units) plus the necessary low voltage stuff.

Btw.  I stopped selling Alpha pots a while back as my stock was diminished.  Now I've restocked again so feel free to contact me if you need any 50K quad pots.

I just really like to buy in bulk and be able to build something at the drop of a hat.  :)

he needs extra dead weight in the trunk for winter

That's what bodies are for... we are the mafia after all.  Wouldn't help me a whole lot though on a FWD car...

birgir could always use cavalli. Tie him to the hood like a dear.

But first he would have to do a Hansel and Gretel on him.

The guy is pathetically thin.

Well at least I'm making sure you are in good form.  :)

Are they from Sumr?

No, Keen Ocean.  Same as the ones used in the Eddie Current crapola.  Typical Chinese OEM, you can get them dirt cheap but once you set strict standards in terms of temp rise etc. then they get a lot more expensive.

As it stands now I foresee having to build about 10 KGSSHV's to test new parts and just to burn up my own stock of boards.  A SumR transformer would cost about 270$ all inclusive (trafo, shipping and tax/fees top of both) and these are far cheaper plus better made and with higher spec.

My KGSSHV is together (minus the top cover), zeroed out (less and +/- 1V in all four ways) and making music (sweet, sweet, glorious music).

I'll try to take some nice pics when I feel like turning it off.

Congrats Emooze :)  I really do like listening to this amp.  It has made its way to my night table.

@Spritzer - That looks so much better than I had imagined.  It's like Christmas a bit early :)

Some blurry phone pics from when I was zeroing the offset and balance yesterday.
