The last few years Karen and I have had mixed celebrations: 3 years ago at some friends' place in NH, we went to bed early but watched the ball drop on streaming. Two years ago, same friends weren't feeling well so we skipped, but watched the ball drop. Last year, too tired, went to bed early. This year, I fell asleep reading, but woke up at ~11:40 to turn on the TV and watch the ball drop. When the clock struck midnight, I turned to the other side of the bed...and started crying. The sweet side was some of my closest friends sharing pics and texts for the New Year, our bonds are ever closer. Hoping that 2026 is a much better year....for me, for my family, for all of us here, and for our country and the world! Me and my father went ro their home for condolences, my mother didn't. People who didn't know what has happened between them keep asking for her. It was fucking sad and awkward. At least my mother isn't angry with me and my father for visiting them. Gonna attend the funeral tomorrow. Other than that 1st day of being vegan was easy. Got some vitamin supplements for not risking proper Nourishment and plant(pea) based protein powder. Condolences, both about your aunt and your veganism. No, seriously, you're a better man than I. 1
skullguise Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 Today NASA hosted a chat session with my nephew. We got to catch up with him, talk about things he's doing, etc. He took us on a bit of a tour and we got to see his view from ISS. And....fancy that....the world really IS round! 🤣 'Twas very very cool! Pics are screen captures, and video quality was so-so. But wow..... 10 8
Dusty Chalk Posted January 2 Report Posted January 2 Aw, too fucking hip, that's amazing! Yay science and your nephew! 1
n_maher Posted Saturday at 02:23 AM Report Posted Saturday at 02:23 AM Was thinking about you, Todd, and your nephew as I spend a few minutes out in the driveway tonight tinkering with the camera. I'm pretty shite at. lunar photography, but still had fun for 10 minutes until I couldn't feel my hands. 8
swt61 Posted Saturday at 07:55 AM Report Posted Saturday at 07:55 AM Actually yesterday, not today. I got up early on my 4 day holiday weekend, and decided to get my laundry done early. So loaded up the laundry and Maki and headed to the laundromat in Fairfax. Got it done and headed back home to Nicasio. Halfway home, on Nicasio Valley Rd. saw flashing lights.... Had to turn back and go the long way around. On Lucas Valley Rd. I had to stop briefly for an overturned car. Luckily no more blockages, and got home to discover that I still had power. Could have been much worse. 4 2

mikeymad Posted Saturday at 07:07 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:07 PM I know how that is tice.. on my land. The other night: bigger than it looks {3' diameter}. My trailer back left. Two nights later. Just outside my front door... {about 120'+} taking out a chunk of my neighbor's fence. Last night at about 1:30 am, a 100' tree on the other neighbor's property came crashing down. Lucky it didn't hit anything, But about 10° difference from where it fell and it could have easily taken out my truck. let's just say I'm not going to park it anywhere close to that area anymore. On a positive note, I do have a tree guy coming on Monday and for a pile of cash, he is going to take out six trees on my property alone plus two more on the neighbor's. It does not mean that I will sleep more soundly when it's windy at night. but it will reduce the danger of major impact by a small percentage. 2 8
Grahame Posted Saturday at 10:33 PM Report Posted Saturday at 10:33 PM (edited) Well, you could sit in non moving traffic on 101 for about an hour and a half while 5 lanes filter into 1 flooded lane as motorists warely make their way through it. Highway 101, gas station in Larkspur, Corte Madera area flooded following storm - ABC7 San Francisco https://share.google/aOfzvsGh2LXsSjdjg No shit, King Tide Sherlock https://local.nixle.com/alert/12104315/?sub_id=0 Edited Sunday at 08:19 AM by Grahame 2
mikeymad Posted Tuesday at 10:44 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 10:44 PM (edited) Crew fell six trees yesterday, and one more this morning. All about 2' diameter. I have a lot of cleanup work to do. So I bought a beefyer chainsaw. 16” 56V. I still have a tree that should be topped, but not critical. Edit: We did take out one green one - it had no more friends to protect it from the wind. robm321 Posted yesterday at 04:14 AM Report Posted yesterday at 04:14 AM Living under large Redwoods, Mikey, I understand the trauma of laying in bed listening to huge gusts of wind and cringing, hoping one of those "widow makers doesn't break off and find its way to the roof. Glad you'll have a little more piece of mind. 1
Grahame Posted yesterday at 04:46 AM Report Posted yesterday at 04:46 AM (edited) Had Joanne compare similar different greens under various lighting conditions in various locations. Apparently getting Gemini / nano banana to replace wall colors in a picture isn't good enough 🤷♂️ Also, how many greens are there. Many many many apparently. I'm colorblind and that... none of those look green to me in the slightest. I can't tell if you're fucking with me or not. Could go either way. 1

Grahame Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago We had a friend with "taste" come and have a look, and apparently What we want is "Desert Tan" Capturing the sunbaked warmth of a desert landscape, this yellowish tan is low-key yet luxurious. https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/2153-50/desert-tan Well OK then. The Office Renders look Ok. Like I have a choice. 6
skullguise Posted 41 minutes ago Report Posted 41 minutes ago (edited) I prefer blues and greens myself. Water/sky, grass.....calming colors (though not too dark on each). Helps keep me from doing the things my mind screams at me to do to some people. Edited 41 minutes ago by skullguise
Grahame Posted 34 minutes ago Report Posted 34 minutes ago But wait. There's more! Joanne is having second thoughts on the north facing rooms and is considering something lighter ( or technically a higher LRV) so our friend with taste (she worked professionally with fabrics and has a good eye) suggested "Rich Cream" as a lighter alternative to Desert Tan. A soft beige sweetened with a touch of peach, this neutral brings to mind a decadent crème custard. https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/2153-60/rich-cream Time for another trip to the hardware store for a paint sample and paint up a color board.
