For my 1000 post I thought I start something off. I didn't see a thread which had what places peeps here like to eat in their area and why. I work in downtown Honolulu, and for those not familiar with downtown Honolulu, it has a lot of places to eat. I was wondering what places you folks like to eat in your area and what do you like to eat there. I'll try to post something daily. This thread is inspired by my cultural upbringing regarding food. The thing about Hawaii is that food is a pretty essential part of our culture. For example, if someone at work goes on a trip they always bring back food from the place they were visiting. In our work area we have tons, and ton…

For another sign of technological and cultural changes, the first signs of todays LA quake seemed to start with Twitter posts and then spread to traditional media. Here is an example.

all of my geekier Internet savvy friends adore it, and the newer comics consistently make the digg front page. I've sat for hours at work sifting through their archives, and nary a chuckle escapes my lips. so I gave up on it.

A thread to post photos of our dogs. Behold! Freddy! He is a Bichion-spaniel mutt we adopted when he was about 1 year old. As far as I can tell Im not allergic to him.

Alright, so my short backstory: I was in the market for a new, not terribly expensive wallet when I turned first to Amazon, my default search site for stuff. Nothing really caught my eye, especially when price was factored in, so I did a google search for a top quality leather wallet. In a forum I saw a suggestion for a website called saddlebackleather.com I checked the place out and immediately saw their tagline "They'll fight over it when you're dead." Oh, humor, I like that. So I went wandering around the site just to see policies, FAQ, and all that. Needless to say, the owner has quite a story, and his approach to customer service is funny as hell. …

While looking for something to read I happened upon a review of Mike Resnick's book Birthright: The Book of Man (1982). I don't know how this slipped under my radar. I suppose I was either under the water (On a Submarine), or in a drunken haze. In either case I'm searching for a copy to borrow. So does anyone have this book? And I suppose more importantly, is anyone willing to lend it to me? Purtty Please.
