Wild and Crazy Go Nuts!

  1. The wife and I have a trip scheduled to NYC Feb. 12-15 as I don't have school that Monday. I know we are definitely going to see some Broadway show but other than that we are pretty open. Not sure yet where we are staying. Figured I would throw it out there as there is a pretty good NY contingent here.

Google's shut down a number of music blogs, making the whole blog's content and archives inaccessible not only to readers but to the blog's authors themselves. The issue seems to be accusations of DMCA or other infringement that breach Blogger or Blogspot's Terms of Service, but bloggers are claiming they had permission and encouragement from artists and labels to post the material. More details in the article. The Twitter topic is #musicblogocide2k10. (Yes, it's normally Ric who posts these things, but at this hour I'm assuming he's sleeping the sleep of the just. Hope he won't mind my stepping in.)

  3. Started by Nebby,

So after some time looking for a job I've been accepted for a position in MD that matches what I'm looking for. I have a car and all my belongings are here in CA so I'll be driving across the country to my new location with my essentials. I'll be shipping the nonessentials since it'll be easy to do so as they're still packed in moving boxes from my separation. My father will be travelling with me to help split the driving duties. As I haven't done a cross-country drive before, I'd like some input on the planned route which is this so far: Los Angeles, CA to Baltimore, MD - Google Maps I've mostly kept to the I-40 as I heard it's the better route to take, though I'm…

  7. Started by thrice,

I'm looking to read more science fiction. I've read the Dune series as well as some Clive Barker (Imajica...etc.) but I'd like to get into more of the classics and also modern writers as well. Obvious beginnings would be Orson Scott Card, Neal Stephenson, Issac Asimov (no, I haven't read anything by Assimov... I know, I'm a bad geek)... Philip K Dick, ...etc. So what Science Fiction should I read and what modern authors/series do people recommend? What are your essential books? Cheers, thrice

  12. Started by Wmcmanus,

I'm thinking about getting one of these to gain better access to my attic: Products The largest model is 4' x 6' and lifts up to 750 pounds. Cost is $2,595 plus shipping, so nearly $3k to Florida. Then the on-shipping to Cayman and 20% import duty when it gets here. Then paying someone to prepare the opening, do the install, and make it all look finished. Probably $5k or more before all is said and done. But that would allow me to: 1) Get most of the junk in my attic out of there, much of which is my former fiancee's accumulated possessions from living in Cayman for 17 years prior to moving to the US almost 10 years ago. She's shown zero interest in any of i…

  14. I think people here at Head-Case should know that Twisted Pear Audio is raising funds to support Doctors Without Borders relief efforts in Haiti after the earthquake. There is a prize, to be precise a complete Buffalo II kit! http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/news.aspx Best regards, Jose Luis

  17. Its now winter break for me and I have keys to the ceramics studio and am trying to think of some stuff to do. I was reading that RSA amp thread and noticed that ray was using a ceramic headphone stand and thought some people here might like for me to make them one. I wouldn't charge anything but shipping as they would be pretty cheap to make. This would be for established head-casers in the US only. Sorry to leave you canadians and europeans out in the cold but ceramics are heavy and shipping would be probably more than it's worth.

  19. Started by Wmcmanus,

About 11 years ago as best I recall, I had to buy a pair of crutches and use them for several weeks because of a severely sprained ankle. Fast forward to tonight when I was on Skype chatting with my former fiancee's daughter who is getting married this summer and has been pestering me of late to "sponsor" one thing or another in connection to her wedding (someone is sponsoring her bridal shower, someone else her flowers at the wedding, someone else the photographer, etc.) and suddenly I've been more like her real dad than the man himself. I told her that I'd sponsor the green beans, but she claims they're not included on the menu. I'll probably get stuck with the e…

  20. This was news to me. Why not to accept "gifts" on paypal when selling items on paypal - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio Note that all it took to have the transaction flagged was the inclusion of an address in the comments section. I'm not surprised that they're cracking down on this, given that they don't collect fees on gifts.

Hi Guys, Hope you don’t mind me asking this question, but just maybe you will be glad you did someday. I want to create a balancing or tuning process that helps produce an audio component that is of the very best quality. I’m thinking of cables or maybe speakers or something, any ideas? My background is in the production of bespoke machines and systems for high-tech products (automation, test & inspection). I have been working on testing RF amps for a few years, but this was for satellites and I would love to get into high-end consumer audio products. I’m not an audio expert but I can work to specs and automate iterative processes to optimise product performa…
