Wild and Crazy Go Nuts!

  1. Started by mobayrasta,

Ok I am a little scared to post on these forums, but I think I have pretty thick skin and I can take it...... I have lurked around here since falling in love with headphones, but in all honesty was a little intimidated to post. I finally joined. Read the welcome PM 50 times to make sure I didn't miss anything that will get me banned or just embarass myself. This is a forum of freindship and I hope I can fit in somewhere along the way. I know a lot of you from other forums such as head-fi. I have been married for 16 years and have two beautiful children, Tori 14, and Wade 9. We share our jungle with a gigantic Bloodhound, a Jack Russell Terrier, Pomeranian, Ragdo…

Sennheiser or AKG or any of those headphone companies come up with supposedly audiophile grade wireless headphone then I believe the following would happen: 1. Big war on HF, cable vs wireless 2. Snake oil company will come up with "atmosphere treatment" so that RF will travel more freely and no interruption on the air thus increasing SQ What else you guys reckon would happens ?

Well, my trusty 1994 Corolla decided it couldn't face 2010 and died on 12/31. Thus begins a new tradition - the annual NYE walk. Transmission costs (waiting on estimate) will likely make stop repairs so I'm investigating newish car options. While I was expecting to pick up something used, with the current state of the auto industry, cash backs, lines disappearing, etc. began to consider a 2009/2010 Pontiac G3 (the once Vibe). The warranty is a big pull too. Basically, want a smallish car for city parking, good gas mileage for work commutes (40 miles each way - 2-3 times a week, when car is most used) and as I park on the street in San Francisco, something I wouldn't w…

Alex Chilton died yesterday at age 59 from an apparent heart attack. That's fucked up. I've been meaning to post this sad news ever since my wife called to tell me she heard it on the radio while she was driving to work. Great and influential musician. Also been meaning to play some Big Star and shit but I have been too busy to do anything fun today. Will have to toast him later, but for now here are the lyrics to The Replacements' Alex Chilton: If he was from Venus, would he feed us with a spoon? If he was from Mars, wouldn't that be cool? Standing right on campus, would he stamp us in a file? Hangin' down in Memphis all the while. Children by the million s…

I was playing around in the User CP a couple of weeks ago and came across a page where I could edit the custom title below my username. So I entered "Baby Elephant" because I'm a baby elephant. Now, I'm thinking of changing it, maybe to "Awesome Baby Elephant" or "Super Cool Baby Elephant" or something cool-sounding like that. But I can't find that custom title editing page anymore. Where did it go?

To expand on Steve's idea, how about we all post the first HF rigs we had as a small trip down memory lane. Guess I'll get the ball rolling... My first HF rig (and prior to me knowing about all these crazy people and their headphones) was just a HD600 plugged into an old Kenwood integrated amp (headphone socket fed via resistors from the main amp) but since it isn't electrostatic it doesn't really count in my case. My first real headphone setup was the SRM-313/SR-007Mk1 combo, complete with a round SRE-15N extension cable and a stand/cover. After this all hope was lost... Source was shared with my speaker rig and the interconnects used cost more then the …

So I picked up a Pre last Friday and I've been using it pretty heavily since then. The screen is very nice, on par with the iPhone's I'd say (the iphones being a glass touchscreen does get the edge in scratch resistance). The interface is really intuitive and done very well. The little "gesture" area below the screen fits in with the overall interface quite well and it works flawlessly. It's also hard to overstate how nice it is to finally have true multi-tasking on a smartphone. I often find myself having the Pandora app streaming in the background while texting or sending e-mails. Of course there is also the keyboard to talk about, I'm one of those people that r…

Ok, so I don't remember the actual day it started, but it was the middle of the month in February of 2006, so this is close enough. I've had a blast watching you grow up, just don't become a tweenager TOO fast. This is been my favorite place to be on the internet for the past four years straight, and I figure it'll continue to stay that way as long as it's around. Thanks to all those who've made it what it is. **BRENT**

  19. Last week there was a small-plane crash in East Palo Alto (SF Bay Area), killing three Tesla Motors employees and knocking out power to a chunk of Silicon Valley for much of the day. (Amazingly nobody on the ground was killed despite the plane striking a home child day-care facility.) East Palo Alto contains some dodgy areas, and is outfitted with the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system. It turns out the crash triggered ShotSpotter, which is designed to log and triangulate on loud, sharp noises, and to log the sounds preceding and following them. NTSB expects these data to be useful in reconstructing the events around the crash. Palo Alto Online : ShotSpotter …
