I am putting together a vintage Realistic bookshelf stereo system with a SA-150 integrated amp, Minimus 7 speakers, and a Lab-290 turntable. It dawned on me that my headphones are the only component that doesn't fit into the early 80's Radio Shack theme. I need some suggestions for headphones that Radio Shack sold in that same time period. I would guess that there were some decent headphones made for Radio Shack in the early 80's. I thought that this would be the best place to get expert advise so what would you recommend? Thanks a lot, Gene

Hey headphone friends. Despite my great affection for good headphones, the pair that spends the most time on my head are a cheap logitech headset with 2 miniplugs -- one for the mic, one for the headphones. I interview visa applicants for five hours a day, and I wear those shitty headphones to do it. I think it's time for a change. Ideally, I'd like a new set that meets three criteria, in order: 1) Some kind of gate or filter to block excessively loud noises. Applicants often hit the microphone on their side with papers, and it's like 120dB or white noise. Sennheiser has ActiveGard on some business headsets, and this seems to do the job. 2) Professiona…

Hi everyone, I just thought of this poll that might be somewhat interesting. But then, probably not. I'm not sure how many Audio-Technica woodie fans are around here, but I sure am one. So basically what the poll above says. Do you think there will be a 45t anniversary A-T Woodie? If so, what would be your guess for the model number? Or rather, what would be the best in your opinion? - Nanoha List of A-T woodies in the past: 1996 - ATH-W10VTG 1997 - ATH-W10LTD (35th Anniversary) 1998 - ATH-W11JPN 1999 - ATH-W100 2000 - ATH-W11R 2001 - ATH-W2002 (40th Anniversary) 2002 - ATH-W1000 2003 - ATH-L3000 2004 - No woodie released. Continues to sell L3000. 20…

http://www.sonicsense.com/blog I tried some different comparisons on this site. The AKG K702 vs Sennheiser HD650 was definitely revealing. They use a you-tube like linkand they play excerpts of the reference track and the headphone reproduction as recorded from their dummy head alternately. The 3 I listened to were The AKG K702 vs Sennheiser HD650, The Ultrasone ED8 vs Fostex TH900, and The AKG K812 vs Beyerdynamic T1 vs Ultrasone ED10 vs Sennheiser HD800. As I was using one of my HD600's that was connected to my computer, I found that in the first one the HD650 part sounded quite noticeably laid back compared to the reference portion of the compar…

So, I've seen some oblique references to "Duggeh's" surrounder (I think). What's the story? It's not like they don't exist. To wit: Zalman; Tritton; I'm pretty sure I've others.

I've had my TakeTs for not quite a month now. Truth be told, I've barely listened to them. When they arrived from the Land of the Rising Sun, I was in the middle of major house renovations, and I had a houseguest. When I finally connected them up, I found then amusing, but there was a lot lacking with the sound (like the entire midrange.) I heard potential, but mostly I heard what was wrong with the gear upstream of the H2/TR2. This afternoon, I got back my old Halfer P125 power amp. Back in the 90s, it used to drive studio monitors, but it's been a dust collector for the last five years. I haven't heard it in ages, but what I remember was that it imbued small speaker…

Hi im looking to buy headphones but i dont know much about it and whats on the market now. I ve done some research and i found these: -Denon AH-P372 -Audio-Technica ATH-FC700 -MEElectronics HT-21 my price range is more or less the price of those three that i mentioned(like 20-40 euro). im looking for decent sound, they need to be comfortable of course(using them for 2-3 hours), outside noise isolation as much as possible in this price range, same for the sound coming out of the headphones to the outside. So if u have any suggentions that would be great and whats ur oponion on those headphones. Thank you.

Lots of folks put HF-1 drivers and 325i drivers into custom turned wood enclosures. Anyone ever do this with RS-1 drivers? Would be expensive, since essentially you would have to purchase an RS-1 just to cut the drivers out of the already-attractive wooden enclosure. But people have done stranger things in this hobby. Anyway, I'm just curious as to how RS-1 drivers would sound in a deeper wooden enclosure.

I've been thinking of picking up a pair of closed headphones again. I used to own the Beyer DT250-250 a long time ago based on Headroom's ancient recommendation and liked them. Tried the AKG K271S when it first came out and liked the midrange but disliked the strange quality of what bass there was (no impact at all). Haven't really been following closed cans since. There's a thread on Head Case about closed cans but it's somewhat dated. It looks like the HD25-1 II was the flavor of the month on the other site for a while and has a persistent following. I listened to this at the local dealer out of a NAD integrated (not the greatest audition, obviously) and felt that the b…

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ja_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geocities.jp%2Fmister_terch%2FCREATIVEAurvanaLive.html This was one of the first "main" reviews of the AURVN-LV. Here's his other reviews. Third column is how much he likes the sound, out of 5. http://www.geocities.jp/mister_terch/MemoMain.html Then this other guy goes and gives it another 4/5. http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ja_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geocities.jp%2Fryumatsuba%2Fhp-aurvn-lv.html Even given listener bias, I think it's pretty clear this is a nice contender in the $100ish closed category, at least worth a good listen. None …

Because it's alright for her to buy a $600 pair of shoes Many thanks to Ken (Toonie). I've only listened to one album so far: Porcupine Tree - Deadwing (prog with loud/soft songs) I really know and love this album, and right now I'm hearing a clarity I have not heard in any other Grado. Only the K1000. But I'm also hearing a certain weight to the electric guitar that I have never heard on this album. And Steven Wilson sounds clear as day. Also this is the hardest hitting bass I have experienced (save for the PS-1), maybe it's because I'm using flats, but even the HF-1 doesn't hit this hard Very impres…

Now here is something that has been out for a while but I've never really looked into. Now these carry a wide variety of names and there is a plethora of models but they are all pretty much the same, hybrid units with an electret driver to cover the top end and a regular dynamic driver for the rest of the spectrum. I decided it was time to look into this so I bought two units, the Mitchell and Johnson GL2 and some Cyberdrive unit for 30$ which looked the same as the GL2 minus the wood. The GL2 arrived first so some pics: Here the baffle which shows how the drivers are setup Small transformer and 10uf/50V NP cap are all there is to this and th…

Hi y'all, I have a Stax SR-007A e-stat (with the blu-tac port mod) energized by a Stax SRM-T1S with the CCS mod running a pair of NOS US-made Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB tubes through angled socket adapters at 6.0 mA / tube section. The signal from my DAC (RME ADI-2) is being fed through custom-made balanced XLR cables and the energizer is powered by an Audioquest NRG-Z3 power cord. The system has been running fine for at least a year. Yesterday I removed the earpads for a routine cleaning of the driver (dusting off the dust covers, etc.), but after that the 007A developed what seems to be a ground loop in the right channel. The right driver started having this 60 Hz hum t…
