dbi Pro705 Headphones | dbi International This is the headphone on those listening stations at HMV, I believe most of us have heard it. What do you guys think about it? It looks like German Maestro GMP 8.35 D or GMP 8.300 D too.

Has anyone had a chance to listen to the new lineup to form an impression in comparison to the previous lineup? Just curious to know if they've actually changed how the headphones sound

Hi guys, I've got an AKG K1000 at Alex. I bought it second hand from HeadFi, but unfortunatelt one of the drivers is not working properly. So I'll need to find a new pair of drivers! Any idea whether AKG can still provide them? I've tried mailing them, no response yet. I'll give them a call later this week, but if you guys can confirm they don't have it in stock anymore, I won't bother and save the telephone costs (I live in the Netherlands). One other guy at AKG told me I would need new printed boards as well, if I own an older system. Anyone heard about this?? Thanks for the help, guys! PS: Talked to Craig and he's working on a hybrid class a amp for the K1…

This is a picture of Richard Dorfmeister, one half of the famous Kruder & Dorfmeister, and Tosca. Any idea what cans he's wearing in this picture?

  7. Because of the fact that the first PS1000 #3 already show up, just wonder if anyone here waiting for his/her pre-order to. Looking for some critical GS1000 vs PS1000 review...Anyone?

  8. Not exactly sure, but I think the product comes with the earbuds+decoration general pic of em It comes in 4 flavors. Here's some direct links showing them (some flash thing with zoom, so you can see the intricate detail) :limestone (?), fringe, fur, and lace. I'll admit there's an god awful amount of detail going into some of these, thought I still find them completely wasteful.

  10. The shure se530's came in today. Was able to play with them a good chunk of time due to no school. I mainly was using my moth si2a3/45H with meridian as I am still waiting on my new 6g ipod to come in. The fit is excellent to my ears, nice and easy to insert, stays in place, and all the tips work just fine. I would say the triple flange is really awkward and I probably won't bother with it anymore because it places it too far out the ear. I tried the small rubber ones and the medium sized olive foam I believe, those are the ones I like so far. The olive foam though seems to fit in more snug and seems to isolate much better, though the smaller rubber tips go in and…

  11. Started by humanflyz,

It has been a very long time since I've been in the market for a semi-full sized, closed headphone. The last one I had was the AKG K81DJ. I liked that pair of cans well enough, except for the comfort: they pinched my ears like no other, and I can't wear them for more than half an hour without feeling discomfort. From what I've gathered, people here like the ATH-ESW9 for a semi-full sized closed headphone. The fact that they are supposed to sound decent straight out of an iPod also makes them appealing. However, I still have concerns about comfort. I have big ears that are long but not wide. So most headphones end up pinching my the top and bottom of my earlobes, and …

  12. Hi Everyone I am a new guy to electrostatic headphone world. I have just bought a stax headphone. However, I hear some hum noise on one of my driver. I wonder whether there is something wrong with the headphone or not. I did some research and noticed that we will hear hum noise for all electrostatic headphone during winter time or cold weather. Is it right? thanks

If you have several headphones at your disposal..and one or more has set idle for several months, you plug in and something is amiss. The phone in question has played for several hundred hours previously and is well broken in...but the Bass is threadbare and a bit lumpy..the treble is closed and has a nasal stridency, while the midrange is recessed and hollow sounding. Then after 2 to 6 hrs. of healthy playback things flesh out and the balance and tonalities also timbers are as you remember. Has the driver surround stiffened? Has the diaphragm itself loosened and lost the piston properties? Has the hole flow alignment that permitted electron flow closed, th…

  14. While I am waiting for my HP's to be serviced, does anyone have any recommendations for something that can tide me over until then? Budget probably 200-300 as once the HP'1000's come in they will be taking full time. Would prefer not to go the hd650 route again as they just don't satisfy me musically regardless of the number of times I've had them and various rigs (about as much as the HP1000 actually). Definitely not into the k701. Thoughts are the allesandrom MS2i and audio technica ad2000 (i believe that is the model that a lot of people have been praising). If anyone has thoughts on the above two, or other recommendations, that would be great. Just note that…

Hi, While i am spending pennies on my senn setup, i am considering looking at a set of cans that can leverage a nice 300B p/p amp i use on my speaker system. I think there are numerous options but wonder if anyone can offer first hand experience with cans and 300B amps? Thanks.

  16. God is Good< I appreciate your clicking open this thread. Hello There, Folks of the planet. LOL, This will be my very first review of the K701. God willing, the following words you see will satiate your mind with Food for thought, of the Fast food TYPE! God willing, it will satiate you sooo well, that you WILL read this REVIEW OUT LOud, vocalizing the following descriptions of THE AKG k701 in beautiful song - with or without having the k701 itself - in ways that only the Planet's best Soprano can. Well, never mind. Not only are there plenty descriptions of the K701 out there, and NOT ONLY do I have equipment in my audio chain, that may or mAY NOT even be …

So I read through EdipisReks' thread here, but I have already brought back one thread from the dead and decided better of it this time. So here is a new thread. Just got the MB Quart QP55x's yesterday. Got them through eBay for $45 shipped. Brand new, unopened box. I mainly got them for the velour pads to put on my Sextett's. Anyway, currently I have been listening to them and so far I am impressed. Build Decent quality, not as high quality as AKG or Senn's; but they should hold up to plenty of abuse. All plastic and retro looking. I won't say that they look "cool", but c'mon does that really matter anyway. The cord is higher quality than any Rat Shack cord, but n…

I've searched both forums for decent information in that regard and got nothing. Can someone comment on their extension of the low range, in particular how rolled off they are at 30 and 20 hz? How much improvement is there over MS-1? (I have an MS-1 here).

  19. Hey y'all, I wonder if you can help me out with a question. I love the way my Beyer DT990s (2005, 250 ohm) sound, especially for acoustic music. I find them a bit fatiguing when I listen to metal though, and I suspect this is due to their (according to my ears) somewhat enhanced sparkle in the treble region. My present amp is just the headphone out in my NAD av receiver - nothing fancy, but many people seem to like the headphone outs from NAD. For a source, I use either the NAD T534 multiplayer or the Playstation 1. So, what do I need - proper amplification or a different headphone? Or different source? I am kind of new at this hobby, and have not been able t…

  20. Post POST? Wtfruitcake? It was 2007(damn, 2009 already? damn), and I just HAD to get me a K701. Being that God is too great, I got them!!! Being that God is even GREATER THAN THAT, I had the DT 880'250'05 on hands to compare the TWO headphones at the same time...which resulted in the K701 being sold after 220-250(I forget, Sowwy) hours of conventional and pink noise burn-in. Well, WHY did I sell them so soon? Not only did I find the K701's soundstage less natural than the DT 880's(albeit, noticeably bigger than the latter can's soundstage), but the bass heft was seriously missing in the AKG TOTL can. As a born-to-play video gamer. Did I find this lack of lo…

Victor unveils a new headphone that has DX1000 technology in a more affordable package, estimated to be around 65,000 yen. They mention direct mounting of driver to housing, radiata pine, neodymium driver, acoustic lens, the same stuff from DX1000. Will it be a straight downgrade, or a different tuning? 23. Started by Col11,

Hi was wondering if anyone can give me some advice? I have a pair of Stax Gamma Pro and SRD7SB that I have had for many years, but have not used them for a long time as the thin diaphrams of the Gammas Developed holes in many years ago reducing the volume and freqency response (I had a look inside). Also the headband if broken. I have recently found out after after all these years doing some research that this was the wrong type of adaptor for these Gamma Pros, - the SRD7SB being a "NORMAL" type 6 pin adapter and the Gamma Pros being a "PRO" type 5 pin connection which require different bias voltages. The shop that originally sold the adaptor and headphones to my D…

  24. I put this under a separate thread with the understanding that the audience for this thread might be a 100% exclusive union with the orthodynamic thread, because it's really a separate issue, and is not necessarily an issue indigenous to orthodynamics. blah blah blah future audience growth potential blah blah blah So without preface, let me start with my fundamental question: Why felt? I mean, there are other materials that are flexible and dense at the same time -- corduroy, for example, or perhaps certain dense weaves such as linens or velvet. And I ask not to question felt's supremacy, but rather as a learning exercise. What is it about felt that makes it s…
