Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by humanflyz,

After two and half months, my K1000 system is finally back in my possession: Listening to the DVD-A of Pet Sounds, and it is glorious.

  2. Started by JimP,

OK my previous thread rambling about HD650/580 was in essence about burning out a bit and cynicism creeping in with respect to this hobby (ie, is it worth it...). I snagged a K1000 finally after a long period of hesitation -- and while I've only had it days and and running from an old Bryston integrated amp -- it's like a shot of newfound entusiasm for headphones (or new 'fro-age O0 ). This is my last significant acquisition, I have no money now. The Bryston will have to do for awhile in terms of amp. Will be playing with my current portfolio longterm to see what stays/what goes. I know many of you have already been there, but this K1000 has fired me up again. My current…

Just curious what people are using in place of the OEM cable for the 650.

  4. Started by Colin345,

I'm looking for some good, cool looking over-ear headphones to get. I'm currently looking at these, because of how they look, they seem to be pretty good, and the cords are pretty sick: Amazon.com: V-MODA Cross-fade LP Over-Ear Headphones (Gunmetal Black): Electronics Amazon.com: V-MODA XFLPR-ROUGE Crossfade LP Over-the-Ear Headphones (Rouge): Electronics The only problem is, the reviews say that they are mostly for dance music. They're on sale, so I was wondering what opinions you had, or a comparable set for the price. I mostly listen to music like Forever the Sickest Kids, All Time Low, Disney, Nevershoutnever, The Maine, etc. Thanks.

http://www.headfonia.com/the-sennheiser-hd700-journal/ Sennheiser HD 800 vs HD700 by drjlo1, on Flickr Aside from any sonic competence it may or may not possess, I find it difficult to believe that any company, let alone a dominant multi-national corp like Sennheiser, is capable of coming up with such a Fugly design for a $1000 headphone. Pricing HD800 now at $1500 and HD700 at $1000 is quite ludicrous, and while I will give HD700 a listen when available, for those who wish for "HD650 musicality with a little better technicals," I still recommend a used HD600, recabled with better cable and removing the veil with "foam mod" and using the money left over for a…

  6. Can anyone tell me which earpad is the best one for grado ps1? bowl one, flat one, or the earpad of GS1000, or anything else you think it is the best In addition, can you also tell me which amplifier is good for the phone? thanks for your time to help me

  7. Started by Dusty Chalk,

So, I've seen some oblique references to "Duggeh's" surrounder (I think). What's the story? It's not like they don't exist. To wit: Zalman; Tritton; I'm pretty sure I've others.

  8. I'm looking for a pair of high-quality headphones to mix/monitor on for recording purposes. The HD650's have long been recommended for this purpose (despite being less neutral than the HD600), and as I keep hearing that the LCD-2's share a somewhat similar sound signature - I'm wondering if they would be a good choice in my situation. I am aware that some engineers use the LCD-2's for this purpose, but I've heard comparatively little information about them when used for monitoring. Headphone mixing is not exactly a popular field compared to monitor speakers in the audio world, which might account for this lack of feedback about them, so I thought I'd see if anyone arou…

Hello. I have a pair of Lambda Nova Basic. Both drivers are slanted forward and left one has less bass. Volume is slightly unbalanced but mostly noticeable for stereo music. Should I risk it? Audio signature suddendly changed today and then it sounded normal again (that's when I noticed both drivers slanted forward. Left one was only slightly slanted now both of them fully are)

These look quite interesting: https://raalrequisite.com/sr1a-earfield-monitors/ Maybe someone needs to take one for the team, possibly me. These interest me only because it seems to be a different presentation, more speaker-like. Of course I would need a nice speaker amp design to build for these, Kevin ?. Thoughts?

  11. I'd like to try my electret with a different box, but I'm not too familiar with electret transformer boxes. (I'd like to hear whether the box is what limits the bass output.) Is this thre-pin connector common?

A few months ago I decided to invest in a decent pair of headphones, and bought the Sennheiser HD 555 after all the good reccomendations. I've used them for a few months now and have been fairly dissapointed with them, they sound dull and lack in bass. I listen to most genres of music but in particular hip-hop; which I find these headphones are not all that suitable for. So I am now thinking of selling my Sennheiser's and getting another pair, with are more suitable for me, with my budget being anything under $150. Any reccomendations? Would the Grado SR60i/Audio Technica ATH-AD700 be good choices? Thanks

  13. Started by deepak,

I've only had them since this morning. But so far I'm really digging the sound Some initial impressions. Very balanced sound with exceptional tonality. The first thing I noticed is how forward the sound signature is (similar to the K1000). The soundstage isn't as large as the Omega 2 MK1. The Omega 2 has this uncanny ability to throw its voice like a ventriloquist projecting sounds outside the dimensions of the earspeaker. The Koss can't quite do that. The Koss have very, very nice midbass and impact making them fun to listen to with rock. They have a hint of that deep bass that is crying to come out, but doesn't extend that far. Mids and highs are very well b…

  15. Started by Sherwood,

I've heard and loved most of the classic Grados . I've owned every pink driver model (RS1, SR325, SR100/200/300) and find they represent my favorite John Grado sound, but I always ended up selling them on. Then I found these weird things: These have the smaller red/pink drivers found on John's earliest headphones, and HP1000 gimbals. The cups are very shallow, about the same depth as early SR60s, and as a result they don't fit in the gimbals properly. You have to insert them "backwards" to get the angle right when they're on your head, but it doesn't negatively effect the comfort. They sound phenomenal. Similar to the earliest RS1, but they'r…

  17. Started by Elephas,

I received a surprise package from Enigma Audio. I ordered three balanced cables some time ago, but I asked them to postpone shipping them to me until I had a balanced amp. Since my balanced amp is caught inside the SinglePower black hole space-time continuum, I forgot about these balanced headphone cables. When I saw the package, I thought that the box was a little big for a couple of ECC83 tubes, which I've been ordering recently. Surprise, surprise, upon opening the box I see the silver-gray anti-static bags with the Enigma Audio sticker. Fortunately, I hadn't forgotten what Enigma Audio was. I'm expecting to forget about what "SinglePower" is in a couple more mo…

So there I was just replacing the black olives when BAM, there goes the little black tube that the foamies slide on.  Anyone know if this is something Shure will even replace/repair? Gah! I use these too and from work everyday. Well, the Senn PX100 I ordered will be getting some serious time when it arrives.

  19. Started by CarlSeibert,

I just contacted the Stax distributor about replacement foam for the earpad side of my Lambda Pros. The response was that now they offer either foam or cloth, and that each is integral to the earpad. $35 and $55, respectively. That raises a couple questions. Foam or cloth? Cloth would seem more practical. Has anybody tried the cloth? Is there a sonic difference? For that matter, what's the difference between foam and nothing at all? The earpds on my headphones seem fine. I guess one could make the argument that they could be replaced based on age alone. What should I make of the bundling of the pads and foam/cloth? Is there any performance or design difference betwe…

  20. Started by deepak,

My K701 came in Always curious about these, only encountered them very briefly in a meet. Unfortunately I haven't been able to listen to most of my reference discs since the audio PC I stream from is being completely rebuilt and I'm waiting for a power supply. I got these this afternoon, then went out for a bit, so I only have around 3-4 hours of head time on them. These aren't completely burned in either according to the original owner (~50-100 hours of use) These are definitely some weird headphones to try and describe, they're like a cross between Grados and Sennheisers. Not exactly sure what to say, but I'll try. I have NOT compared them to t…

  21. I had suspected this for quite a while, but I've only been able to say it a few times. At the Los Angeles Meet, after I had heard everything I wanted to hear, I picked up Headroom's K701 and tried to find the perfect SE amp for it. the idea was that eventually I'd find the perfect synergy, and I did. No, it wasn't some maxed SP amp or that lovely ZD, or even the powerful blockhead... but, a humble DIY dynahi that really brought it up to life. fast forward about a year... Over this summer i've been blessed by the opportunity to baby sit Humanflyz's GS-X. It really did some amazing things to the HD650 (fully balanced of course, with Daba's Benchmarck Dac-1). And that is…

I have a question would the Beyer headband fit over the sennheiser HD650 band like for grados? Im assuming the senn's head padding would be removed for it to fit.

Three of the world's best headphones | The Audiophiliac - CNET News At least the Beats were not on the list. I guess I should finally break down and go listen to some Grados.

  24. Started by TheWhiteLotus,

I searched for the best and pretty bass heavy headphones under $200. I narrowed down my search to: Denon AH-D1100 and D2000(I have somewhere to buy it for $200) Ultrasone 580 and 780 V-Moda Crossfades LP I want to know which one is best for: DnB Dubstep Techno Rock/Metal Rap I want a bass close to overpowering but not overpowering. A nice soundstage is nice too. I also need an amp and DAC or amp alone for less than $120,recommendations? It has to include a bass boost(the MoaR the better.)
