Portable Audio

I am looking for recommendations for a closed can. Requirements are isolates well, comfortable enough, light, can take a beating, sounds decent, under 200 pref under 100 bucks. My main phones are 580's and ksc-35's if that helps. Thanks for your help.

Just got an iPod photo with the iMods from Redwine Audio. I've also kept my original iPod photo, so I have an identical stock unit to compare to. I won't be able to do any real comparisons until the Black Gates burn-in, but initial impression is that attack is faster, low-end is deeper. It seems to be a more dynamic player as well. More details once the sound settles down. Even now, I've heard worse sources that cost a lot more.

So after 5 continuous years of use with a 1/8" to tape adapter, the tape transport in my Subaru's stereo has bit the dust. I could look into getting the transport repaired or replaced, but it's probably simpler to get a Pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator FM transmitter for the 'Pod. I have a Belkin adapter that plugs in to my car's "power port" (cigarette lighter) and has an iPod dock connector. It powers the 'Pod and has a 1/8" jack. My car only has one power port, so I imagine I'll have to discontinue using the Belkin. I need an FM transmitter that has good signal strength and sound quality and can power the iPod. Hello, Can any RSA Shadow owner tell me their experience with the potentiometer on the Shadow? I've read that some have found it unreliable/awkward while others love it. One thing I can't find out (and I've searched a lot) is what the "push" aspect of the lever/push potentiometer control is for. Is it necessary to push the switch to adjust volume either way to prevent accidental adjustment or does it have a separate use. (It's confusing as there is already a power switch)

But those were too expensive, so I did my research and found two in-ears that are less expensive-the CX980 and the MX980. The only problem right now is which one I should get. Okay, so now that I have had my Sextett's for almost two weeks I have fallen in love with them. This means that my little PA2V2 is sadly not going to cut it as my only portable amp. Oddly enough, the headphone output from my Macbook Pro has better quality than the PA2V2. It is not as loud, but the PA2V2 was having trouble in the midrange and it sounded really bad. I made a long and detailed post elsewhere. The high points are: The new model is moar better. More extended on top, better detail throughout the band, better background (or microdynamics), removable cable and nicer physical design. They need a crapload of break in - a couple hundred hours at least - and as they break in, they may actually sound worse than straight out of the box. I saw that the SA-1 has been launched by my boys at Sleek. 3mm dynamic driver, not balanced armature . I heard this a couple weeks ago when I went down for custom impressions, and I'll say that for $80 this thing is pretty cool. Didn't bring my own source so I ended up borrowing an iTouch from Bill@Sleek. For now I'll blame a bit of treble strangeness on unknown encryption or something. These shine in the bass and midrange, and for the price could be a nice pair of beater IEMs, or an awesome gift.

I'm looking for an amplifier for my brother's ipod classic. He has a pair of UEsuperfi4vi with plans to upgrading later to a pair of triple fi 10. He doesn't wan to have a lod +portable amp because of size and price. Ive seen threads over at the other place about the Fiio and similar amps, but never paid much attention because it's really not my thing. I've been through a couple of those threads but under all that crappy posting is it hard to find some useful information. I got my friend a pair of OK2s for his birthday to use with his iPod and he's all so I was thinking of throwing in something basic for his PC. I know this is one of those questions, but I guess I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful USB DAC/amp that will leave some room to grow with harder-to-drive headphones. Thinking Total Bithead budget -- is there a better way to go (including used and DIY) for that kind of scratch? All suggestions welcome. Except "buy him a Pico." We're not that kind of friends.

Hey everybody, I obsess over music, yet I know very little about the mechanics of amps, headphones, etc. However, I believe I have narrowed the headphones down to a pair of Senn HD 595's. They seem to be popular among the audio community. My real problem is deciphering between all the amps! Just looking for some impressions, particularly with E500's. I'm currently making do with a Go-Vibe 5 but I'm looking to upgrade on that. So far the contenders are the Xenos 1HA-EPC, the AE-2 and the new Millett Hybrid portable. Sound quality of course is important but budget, or lack thereof, will probably end up being a big determining factor.

I have a few microSD cards with DSD files that work fine in the Chord Mojo, Fiio M7 and a Cayin player. But when I put them in the 1A, it goes through building a database routine, but then does not recognize anything in the card. If I plug the card back into any of the other listed above, the music shows up as usual. Is the Sony player different in terms of formatting? Suggestions appreciated!
