I am not knowledgeable in electronics and I would appreciate your help since I would like to use the JJ ECC99 tube in a Singlepower MPX3 as an output tube. Yes I know, Mikhail has made some horrible amps and has stolen a lot of money from many. However I already own the amp (bought it from Tyrion) and w/ Dr. Gilmore's help I replaced the diodes, verified the transformer is acceptable, and installed a couple of resistors to bleed the large power caps. Hi All, I have an abundance of 6sn7 family tubes and I wish to make a headphone amplifier using ONLY the 6sn7 throughout. I have been looking but cant find anything - Either OTL or TX output, I dont mind, I would think that the 6sn7, especially in parallel would have enough juice to supply my Sennheiser HD650. I'm trying to learn MAGIC which seems to be the most popular open source VLSI layout program. Feel free to post anything relating to VLSI layout in this thread, perhaps something you bring up will be of use to me and others. Currently wondering if there are any other good programs, open source or not, and if there is something more GUI than command line based. I'm currently trying to run MAGIC off an SSH connection to my school's Unix server and it's giving me troubles so I'm going to go home and try it or just install MAGIC on my computer. Any good tutorials or examples would be nice as well, I'm currently following a set of tutorials by John Ousterhout.

hey, I was wonder if a 400 VDC rated cap would be suitable for replacing the interstage coupling caps in my MPX3 SE? There are 2 caps. I got a tip from Mr. Hansen about a line of capacitors I'd like to try, just don't know how to go about verifying they will work.

I have a Vol Pot from Audio-GD(Kingwa). They use a different way of wiring their Vol Controllers than I've seen and I wanted to hear what you guys think about the method both advantages and disadvantages. Instead of entering the POT on the input and exiting the Signal on the output after passing thru the POT, he uses the POT as a drain of least resistance it looks to me. The INPUT from the SOURCE and the OUTPUT to the Amp are on the same solder point. The POT works backwards. As you turn the knob clockwise, the Impedance increases. Gang, My Dad seems to have misplaced the wall wart for his EC/SS. I know it is a 16V AC wall wart, but I'm not sure what exact specs I should be looking for. Any help is appreciated.

I have a powered USB hub that I'd like to get up and running. However I don't have the wallwart for it. The input is marked DC 7.5V 2.1A. If I can't located the original wall wart, what rating range would be acceptable to use with this thing? Or does it have to be specifically 7.5V 2.1A?

I was chatting to justin and cetoole last night, asking for a solution to produce low volumes of sound, max -40dB down into the -80`s and below. Comfortably loud for me with my rs-1`s is up to -52dBu with pro mastered (+4dBu) material, using my donuts (yh-100`s) comfortably loud rises up to -44 dBu. The suggestion that came up, apart from a vinyl source was to I know very little about what is required to drive electrostatics so will really need a builder to construct this for me. So, I want to build an L-Pad based headphone adapter so I can connect headphones to the speaker outputs of an amp. This is mainly for S&Gs, but if it works great then I have the added bonus of having my innate and poverty-enhanced cheapness vindicated. Ok, Not exactly a huge mod but it's made a huge change to how they sound and they sound ferkin' awesome. I imagine it's somewhere between the SR-Lambda and SR-Sigma and definately has many of the Sigma qualities I've read about with, seemingly, none of the drawbacks. Deeper well rounded bass, smoother highs and a very nice midsection. The soundstage now rivals the K1000 at the angle I normally listen at. Despite the extra distance from the ears there's very little drop in volume and they go really loud in a spectacularly full way. My dad just produced a stax sr-3 and srd-5, it looks to be in good condition but I'd like to hear it and the L and R speaker inputs have this strange plug on them. Does anyone know if the female equivalent is still sold or the name of this peculiar plug ? I'm thinking of making an adapter cable and trying to feeding the srd-5 from my beta22's XLR outputs (once it returns from repair). thanks for any help

So over the past two weekends I re-cased my original Dynahi. It's always had a slight 60 Hz hum from the transformer (my best guess). The amp boards, psu and tranny are all in one 16" x 12" x 4" case from par-metal. This time I put the transformer in it's own aluminum project box with a cover and then put that in the case. Then I put an aluminum barrier plate that runs the length of the case in between the amp boards and the power side. I used unshield twisted pair wire to hookup the input and output of the amp. The hum is still there as it was before without any of that. My guess is that aluminum project box is not a good shield and I should use shielded twi…

I would like to build my new balanced rig properly. Should a source have male or female XLR terminals, and again what should the amp have?

First off, I'm about as much of a DIY audio builder as I am a bronze sculptor. Secondly, I recently bought an enclosure from dsavitsk that has some parts in it that were once a DAC. Specifically, it needs a 12AX7 tube and a CS8412 chip. The tube I have already of course. I did some shopping on the 'Bay and found what I believe is the right DAC chip for $6 from a Chinese seller. Hi folks, the Soldermizing itch has started again...I am in possession of a Stax SRM-1/Mk 2 "energizer" that, apparently, is in perfect working condition. Still, that is no reason not to f*** with it! Elsewhere, here or on one of the other "headphone" sites, I found guides to such things as re-biasing the unit (mine is a tad off), and thanks to (uh...) the person who pointed me to a schematic of this unit. The SRM-1 looks fairly basic and is within reach of my admittedly dodgy soldering skills. I would like to, at minimum, replace the power supply caps.
