To ensure people are in the know here as well this is the latest and greatest from CanJam 09 speakers. We hope to have a few more but this was the one that I know we needed to have based on the work he and Joe have done with the Blue Note series. Now I just have to make sure I can get a seat. Well hats off to Voltron for setting this up for CanJam 2009. Steve Hoffman and Joe Harley (Music Matters) have graciously agreed to speak at Can Jam Saturday 5/30/2009. The talk is going to center around their recent ground breaking work with the Music Matters Blue Note reissue series. For those that have not seen Steve talk, the hour or so is filled with amazing music and anecd…

  8. So I've been listening to more music at work (now that I have a job that lets me do that) and I've been coming across some of my favorite songs/lyrics. Rules: 1) Don't post full song lyrics, just the few lines that you find inspiring/neat-o/fuckass awesome/profound...etc. 2) Please include the artist, song title, and album. 3) Format counts you lazy SOB's; Lyrics and song title in "quotes", Album title in italics. ie. Artist: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Album: This is Somewhere Song: "Ah Mary" Lyric: "She's the beat of my heart, She's the shot of gun"

I don't know how many of you saw this, but Ms. Newsom is releasing her follow up to the wonderful Ys next month with a 3-CD/3-LP release of Have One On Me. Yes, a triple album. No idea what to expect, but I'm looking forward to this immensely. Pre-Order here. With tour dates to follow: I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to keep an eye on that March 17th date in Cambridge, MA.

Each CD comes in a mini-LP sleeve, and the CDs themselves are recreated to look like little vinyls. I have no familiarity with Gould's work, but I have a hard time passing up a deal like this. Any thoughts?

We have enough fans, that I thought I'd start a thread. New song: Blue Lips. Jeff Lynne on production, pretty sweet. (See the comment about the echo, for example.)

  13. Here is an idea I had... Idea.. I picked up a cd this mourning called "Artists choice, Norah Jones.. the music that matters to her" at the Starbucks in my side job. it is basically a CD with 14 tracks of music that means a lot to Norah Jones, some tracks are from Billie Holiday to Johnny Cash. on the way home I thought this was a great Idea, to make a cd with a bunch of tracks with music the matters to you, or at least something you listen to a lot. since Headcase is pretty small I think we here can do something like this but for ourselves to exchange to other members here. We all know each others Internet personality and each others gear we use..but we don't know…

watch this: http://www.pbs.org/kcet/wiredscience/story/67-audio_files.html I saw this and, as an audiophile, it just made me sick. I wanted to grab that digital nazi by the neck and strangle him through my computer screen right then and there. The whole world is NOT moving to mp3 crap. I think cds are probably here to stay. I also hope LPs don't get phased out anytime soon. Audiophiles unite! All hail lossless audio and analog recordings!

  16. I'm not talking about bands or singers no one here would listen to, but about the bands people whose opinion you respect seem to like a lot, but you just don't get. I'm sure I've got more than this, but here's a start. Opeth: very silly stuff Dream Theater: C'mon people, this is as corny as it gets Flaming Lips: interesting for a minute, then yawn Portishead: okay, not bad but still unlistenable Bright Eyes: a couple great songs, but pretentious drips Ryan Adams: okay, a good song or five, fav is an Oasis cover, but blech

Does anyone have the 70-75 Genesis vinyl box set? I have the cd/DVD box and never really liked the sound. Has anyone heard the vinyl editions and are they more representative of the originals?

Hey guys, I was wondering about this subscription as I've never done anything like this before. How does it work exactly? They send you 2 titles a month for how many titles? For people who have this subscription, how are you liking the sound quality of the records? I know Analogue Productions does a run of 25 titles with 2 titles a month, but I'm not sure how the Music Matters subscription works out. I think MM can easily fulfill my jazz fetish Do you guys think its worth doing?

I'm not sure how popular these were (looks like at least some ended up on VH1), but the BBC documentary series Classic Albums is on Netflix. Not the most exploratory, so if you're already well familiar with the backstory of each album they may be of limited use, but for everyone else they're definitely worth a try. Saw Rumours last week. Just finished The Band... [media=]

  22. A pair of prodigious platters of plastic. Sorry. Couldn't help myself. An alliterative illiterate. It's two 180 gram 33.33 rpm disks - beautiful, dead flat, silent, excellent sounding pressings, in proper audiophile plastic-lined inner sleeves (Somehow, when an album costs the best part of fifty bucks, I think a Nitty Gritty sleeve is in order. Thank you very much.) The sound is head and shoulders above the 44.1 digital version - guitar timber, vocal, just about everything. This is the first Junkies album since way back, Caution Horses or Black Eyed Man maybe, where the vinyl has sounded that much better than the CD for me. There's a bit of tape pre-echo (print-t…

  24. As the title says. For those of you living under a rock, Bandcamp has been the single best site for artists to sell their music to discering fans for many years now. The artists get their payment immediately and the fans get their choice of DRM-free downloads formats (which is to say, FLACs). Epic Games is an at-best questionable entity that owns the money printing machine known as Fortnite and the Unreal game engine (which can be used for good or evil, but usually the latter). Epic is partially owned by Tencent, who are an arm of the Chinese government. Spoiler Would you care to purchase some Uyghur eyeballs? This is a bit like ...ca 20…
