  1. Started by Chekhonte,

When you burn a cd from a cd is there a loss of fidelity? A friend of mine who is a questionable source said that there is but couldn't back up his claim with anything but "I read it somewhere". I'm thinking about backing up my library on CDR this week and wondering if loss of fidelity is a problem and if there is a way to prevent it. I currently can't hear any difference but my ears are constantly learning (or arguably hallucinating) new things all the time. I don't want to do it if a few years from now I can hear the difference between the two. Thanks, Aaron

Rules: 1. The video must be music related, meaning it can be a live performance, a music video, an interview with an artist, etc. 2. You must describe the contents of the video, you can't just post a youtube link with no accompanying description. Just something as simple as "<artist> plays <song> live" will suffice, but feel free to describe more if you would like. So those are the rules. 11. We know both political parties have support among artists, but do these Hank Williams Jr. lyrics even make sense (logically or structurally)? Does Hank consider McCain a "good-looking dish"? Did "ol' Hank" (assuming this is Jr., though he may be digging up dad) fix anything I should be aware of? Video The left wing liberal media have always been a real close knit family But most of the American people dont believe em anyway you see Stop and think it over Before you make your decision If they smell something wrong, they're gonna come down strong You know McCain-Palin tradition John and Sarah tell you just what they think. Following up from Reks' cool trombone-music thread, I thought I would throw out a request for more jazz titles led by or featuring baritone sax. I came across a random but cool website, http://www.jazzbarisax.com/ that has some great leads and such, but this crowd has some good musical taste and knowledge. Here are a couple of my own favorites to start off: Serge Chaloff: Gerry Mulligan: James Carter featured with the Ginger Baker DJQ2O (Denver Jazz Quintet to Octet): That last disc is a favorite in general and James Carter wails on the first track, Cyril Davis, and three other cuts as well. So, whadya got?

OK found the site livephish.com for phish experts out there, any here that are standouts for me to start with? eg, any from the Live Phish I-XX series worthwhile? I may start with the one where they cover Quadrophenia. There's just too much here to wade through. Also I much prefer the live albums, but any must-own studio albums?

Not asking who you think is the best. But who do you find your playing the most when it comes to trumpet? Piano? Sax? Seems like I listen to more (way more) Lee Morgan than any other trumpet player, maybe more than any other jazz. Followed by Freddie Hubbard Wynton Marsalis Piano is not close either. I think Gene Harris rules! Gene Harris Bill Evans Horace Parlan Sax is all over the place, but seems like Wayne Shorter, Dexter Gordon and Jackie Mclean get the most play time

I know Beethoven is deaf, Mozart is childish and partied till he died or something. I failed History 3 anyways.. the RCM exam for music history. All joking aside, what is the difference between those two in every aspect including their lifestyle and music style? Both of these composers are very famous and I know I can go google, but I'm just wondering what you guys have to say.

Who has a DVD-Audio player? And what type of music do you like? I recently went thru my collection and found multiple duplicates of some of my DVD-Audio discs. I intend on giving them away to some lucky Head-Case member/s. I?ll post a list and I?ll have to figure out how the lucky people will pay for the shipping (I?m not going to pay for giving stuff away). My one caveat is that I don?t want to give these away so that someone can sell them. So recipients are honor bound to NOT RESELL these discs. If I find out that any recipients don?t have a DVD-Audio player, I?ll Kick their ASS! If I find the discs being resold, I?ll kick your ASS! If you say anything about …

In the tradition of the following threads... '07 Mid-Year Report Card '07 Year-End Report Card '08 Mid-Year Report Card ... it seemed time, or even past time, to revisit this tradition. Each year I find an album or two worth checking out thanks to the impressions in these threads by those here at the -Case. Unfortunately my preliminary list has 30 titles released in '08, and countless others that are a year or two old but are new to me. So I'm going to need to make some time to sit down and go through them, slap a grade on each and follow up with the appropriate comments. Despite tales of the downfall of good music, I found this year to be better than decent (even…

So, just a question for ya'll.. how many CDs do you have with pre-emphasis and what do you feel is the best way to handle playback of these CDs? In my case, they are mostly Japanese recordings. If you rip music off these discs, do you handle this in the software domain? If you're not ripping music, it seems like a lot of newer equipment doesn't handle this spec at all... In the DIY realm, what do you think of handling this in a passive fashion, much like an RIAA circuit, pros/cons?
