Speakers

Well, as I transition out of headphones and into speakers, I'm starting to think about the possibiities with the home theater so a bit of help/advice would be most welcome. I'd like to replace my old receiver and add some nice speakers for both 2 channel listening when the mood strikes me and if possible, use those as the front channels in a home theater speaker setup(I think this is the best way to go but correct me if I'm wrong). Is there a receiver that will do justice to the speakers and be compatible with the latest technology or do I really need to think dedicated amplification? At this point, I just don't think monoblocks or uber amplification will be in the car…

Well I've owned my Alon Lotus SE speakers for close to a year now and love them. They sounded great in my house in Cali as the room had decent diffusion and not much of an echo. When I loved to PA and set them up in my second story loft they sounded pretty awful. There was a fairly massive echo and no real low bass to speak of. I have used some auralex treatments in the past and they are ok but in this room they just did not do the trick. So after much searching on the web I checked out GIK as there panels are reasonably well made and very fairly priced based on parts cost and minimal labor costs. I'd like some recommendations for a pre-amp. Not really concerned if its tube or ss though I would prefer tube. Only real requirement is to keep it under $2k and it must have a remote volume control (remote source selection would be nice as well). Any of you guys tried any of the old ADS with a SET amp? I decided to set up a listening room in my library this weekend. I'm planning my first full range driver DIY this spring but wanted something reasonable but dynamic in the meantime. I went to this local pawnshop known to have some vintage gear and stumbled across a pair of 10/10 ADS L570's. Picked em up for $150 and brought em home. Initially I was very skeptical as not knowing the sensitivity of this model, and knowing they aren't Rogers LS5A's. Thus far I am very pleasantly pleased. Someone (I have a pretty guess as to who it was) got behind my electrified fence, barbed/razor wire and broken glass set on top of a concrete wall in front of my A/V system, and broke the jumper cables on my speakers. After being pissed and lecturing everyone about no one being allowed back there and turning up the current on the electrified fence, I figured it was a chance to biwire my speakers, which I'd thought about for a while, but never did. Well less guidance more of a recommendation. Just bought a new car, no aux jack, no cassette deck so I can't use my adapter. I'd like to find a nice portable speaker to set up in my back seat instead of tear out the old speakers and radio. I don't plan on keeping this long enough for it to matter. My point: can anyone suggest a good Bluetooth speaker to use in my backseat?

Hi I am fairly new to this and Was wondering if anyone could give some input on these products: -Audioengine P4 Bamboo Passive Speakers -Audioengine N22 Amp -Dayton Sub 8/10/12 Would these run well together? Has anyone heard these before? I remember someone on Head-fi had a pair, but don't remember who. I'm currently talking to a guy in Maryland about his pair (he's selling a pair of X-Statik's, X-Voce, and a MFW-15 sub) for a pretty good price, but pick up only. I'm trying to work out the details of how large of a car I'll need. I guess I just need a little nudge to commit as long as I can find a way to bring them back to NYC. And I guess I'll find out after tomorrow's watch sale if I even have the money to buy them.

Finally bit the bullet and picked up a dream speaker of mine for a long time. I was able to unload my hornshoppe horns and while they were great for the price, the resolution and detail retrieval of the lowthers is in a completely different world. Lightning speed, incredibly dynamic, beautiful top end, wonderful imaging. I am also very happy with the bass response, in due to the alerion enclosure really maximizing the low end output, coupled with the Firstwatt F1, the combo is really well matched to each other.

I noticed that Acoustic Energy finally released a floorstander model in their Reference Series. My pair of 12-year-old Aegis Two speakers (made in Malaysia) sound pretty good for super-cheap $200 speakers – it makes me wonder what they've done since then. Online reviews of the Reference 1 and the rarer Reference 2 seem pretty positive... has anybody heard them?

Hi Guys I got some horn speakers about 8 months back. They are floor standers, and naturally I sat them on the floor. But found they were slightly too low for my desk system. I thus raised them on ceramic house bricks to 20 cm off the floor, which worked ok but looked awful. Anyway, I finally got around to replacing the bricks with custom black marble plinths. They look better but interestingly the bass now is less bloated and goes lower and jus more tuneful. Odly I think the imaging and treble are cleaner as well, I think I am not imagining that. I have a pair of AV123 X-SLS towers that are having issues. I am probably still going to try and fix them (and do something with them) but I never really liked them. They sound really dark and muddy. Oh well. They are fine for HT but I am thinking that maybe it is time to get some new speakers. I may also get a new center and surrounds (I have some crappy Cambridge Audio works stuff for that right now) now or later. The sub is also an AV123, is ok but it hums so it is off most of the time. I have a rather cramped situation that requires somewhat creative furniture placement, by using a single room as a bedroom, electronic workshop, and listening room. As it is now, things are fairly good and the speakers (Maggie 1.6) sound wonderful. However I want to build a new workbench that is significantly larger, and it would require getting rid of a set of shelves and making the room too cramped, or rearranging furniture to make better use of the middle of the room rather than everything against the wall. I could potentially score a pair within this week, so I just wanted people who have heard/owned the 12L active monitors to speak out about their experiences. To be honest I don't expect optimal performances out of them in my room, because my room is not that great: somewhat thick dry-walls with wooden floors, and I would pretty much have to place them right up against the long wall due to space constraints. And every time I clap my hands, I hear a slight echo in the room. Hey everyone, quick question for the speaker guys: I assembled my speaker system around a pair of KEF XQ40s and later on upgraded to the Jamo R907s, but never got round to upgrading the integrated amp (Marantz PM11-S2), which wasn't really up to the task. So there's a local guy selling his Dynaco ST-70 for a pretty fair price ($300) and a pair of Magnepan MMG's ($300) also. I was curious if you guys have any input on the Dynaco amps.

I've been looking around for the best speaker amp under $200. The options I've considered (Teac A1D, Cambridge Audio A5, Panasonic A-35R and Denon PMA-255) are: - Out of stock and nowhere to be found anymore for the Teac - Out of stock and UK available only for the Cambridge Audio, and Denon - Nowhere to be found anymore in the U.S. other than from pick-up in Montana for the Panasonic I keep hearing things about NAD. Are there NAD products that are available in my pricerange? This is my first post here. I am very happy with this system (for headphones - DT-880's,) however the speakers are starting to annoy me, while they are very detailed and lively they seem a bit forward and get tiring to my ears after a while in my setup. I really think I should have kept my last pair of speakers, Vandersteen 1C's. Now I'm seriously considering saving up for them again. This is a pic of my rig. The speakers are Omega Minuets that have modified by rewiring with thick solid-wire copper wiring inside, and the speaker wire is directly wired to the speakers. The source is 1212M running into the Luxman tube amp via silver interconnects.

I want to get a modest stereo setup going in my listening room, as well as a couch instead of just an office chair, so that more then one person can enjoy music. Someone over at sh.tv recommended I check out Orb Audio. I'm looking at their Classic Two Stereo Speaker System, and possibly a Sonic Impact T-Amp to drive them. Their tiny footprint is ideal, because the listening area is small, and these would fit well on the front corners of my desk. Has anyone ever heard these speakers?

My current desktop speaker setup is Benchmark DAC2 -> Pioneer Elite A-35R Int amp -> KEF LS50 (I also have the GS-1 on the desktop for headphones but haven't been using it with the speaker setup). I feel that there is still a bit lacking from the KEF LS50s so I swapped out the Marantz SR6005 receiver for the Pioneer A-35R. The sound was much warmer and more powerful. While I feel that setup was too bass heavy for me, I think that there is probably something lacking in my cheapie Pioneer Elite. I have been thinking about getting a Parasound A23 to replace the Pioneer Elite. I wonder if there will be too much volume going balanced out of the DAC2 since I am list…
