I was looking into purchasing a new Graphics Card for my Computer. I bought a new monitor (Vizio VX32L - 32" LCD HDTV) and I would like to upgrade the graphics card now.. Any ideas on any products that are out now?

Honestly I've looked at both of these cards and I have a general sense of what these cards are. 9800GX2 is like 2x of those G92 8800GTS 512MB video cards but inside one enclosure. GTX280? The newest card for like $500-600. Recently my G80 8800GTS 640MB has been acting weird, over heating (over heated for the first time during one hot day when I had a BBQ and left the computer on in a closed room which was a bad idea) and weird things has happened to my computer like screen messing up and not receiving signals from my GPU or something. So I get home from CanJam, and my macbook is doing something weird. I'm not sure I can describe this, it's like when a picture is too big and you have to scroll on a webpage to read across, except its the desktop, and all I'm doing it touching the pad. It moves, and the tool bars on the top and bottom no longer fit the screen. Also, no matter what I have up (like this forum) the whole page moves in the direction my finger goes when I touch the pad. It's making me crazy, and I can figure out how to make it stop. Kitty took a little walk across the keyboard this afternoon. I don't know if he messed with anything or not. Anyway, any help appreciated.

I'm looking to add an arduino to control my dac. I'm not worried so much about writing code as that's already done and proven to work for others. This whole platform is new to me. I can see that the initial scrpt or program is the .ino file and that will contain commands as well as references to libraries but I'm not sure how to put this altogether in Arduino IDE to upload it to the Arduino Due. I need to purchase a slim SATA ODD for a slim HTPC case. I'll need DVD, CD, and Blu-Ray read support (best accuracy is what I'm looking for). Write support is not as important but CDR, DVDR would be needed at least. I'm really looking for the best slim ODD to finish ripping my CD, DVD, Blu-Ray collection to storage.

As the title states, I need to convert a collection of ALAC files to lossy WMAs and keep the original files (got a cheap brown Zune). dBPowerAmp is the only software I'm aware of that will handle this conversion, should I try my luck with it or does someone here have another recommendation?

I decided to give my dad my partner's old laptop (Pentium M 1.6Ghz 1GB RAM). After erasing everything and reinstalling Windows XP Pro from the original disk, the computer kept crashing. I am guessing that it had something to do with some drivers. Instead of trying to fix it, I wiped the HD clean and installed Linux Mint on it. I figured that he could do everything on Linux that he needed. So I get to my parents house today and find out that most of what my dad does on the computer is stream Netflix movies. Ok, so my apartment is theoretically wired with Cat 5e throughout. There is a Leviton enclosure in one of my closets. I currently use Verizon FIOS for my internet, phone, and TV. The Actiontec router that Verizon gave us sits outside the closet and is connected to one of the jacks in the apartment via coax. My mac is hardwired to one of the Actiontec's ethernet ports; the rest of the 'puters connect wirelessly. I want to light up some--if not all--of the ethernet ports throughout the house in case the wireless goes down. My regular PC, which I built and have re-built along the last 10 years, is ageing and giving signs of a soon-to-happen crash. Not sure if it's the SCSI Adaptec board, one of the SCSI discs, one of the USB ports in the mobo, even the AGP card... whatever, it freezes, refuses to reboot and I'm afraid that while I've managed to get it booting, it won't in a few days. With this computer I have a 21" CRT Philips monitor which besides being a behemoth filling most of my desk, works great and offers excellent image quality. My laptop of three years might not be of use any more The charger pin is either loose or faulty since I have to wiggle the charger wire a lot in order for it to get a secure connection. It's got to the point where I have to fiddle with it for as much as a half an hour before it sticks, only for it to loosen up with the slightest movement. And since it was an OEM (Compal) I'm not exactly sure how to get it repaired...if any one has any ideas I'd appreciate it. So I'm considering a new laptop. Warning: complete laptop newb, heads-up. Looking at getting my wife a new laptop, christmas/MBA graduation gift. Budget is $600 max. Biggest application will probably be the new adobe photoshop 8 that I bought her as well, she loves taking pics and the new laptop should be powerful enough to load full resolution pics pretty fast and for her to edit and adjust with ease. Nice spec bumps and, to the delight of Duet fans everywhere, they kept Firewire. The addition of a discrete graphics card should now make this a decent video, as well as audio, server.

Last night while attempting to finish some final details on my son's science fair project we discovered that most of the MS Word documents from the past three weeks including ones saved two days ago seem to have disappeared. We performed a virus scan, search of the hard drive and can find no Word documents that have been saved in the past three weeks, whether saved to a folder or saved without designating a folder. Google queries for solutions haven't helped and this seems to be a random problem with no general solution. Has anyone here experienced this problem or is this just more example of my bad audio equipment luck migrating to my home computer?
