http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4217348.html Pretty cool stuff I could really see something like this being the direction that computing goes in the relatively near future.

Just as an FYI... there is significant clipping/static/popping when using USB audio devices on the new iMac with Fusion drives. Some have had success in eliminating the issue by breaking up the drive group, however this then defeats the purpose of buying the drive. I recommend avoiding the iMac if you intend on using USB DACs until this issue is resolved.

My son wants a gaming mouse and doesn't want to spend a ton. He uses a PC laptop and is willing to do wired over wireless if the features or pricing are better. I know nothing about this subject, so please enlighten us with your gaming wisdom.

I haven't really used a Windows computer much* in the past 10 years but now have a Surface Pro 3 and thought I might end up using it on trips when I want a tablet with me. My hope is that I can successfully install Ubuntu on it in the future and maybe someone can figure out how to get the Type Keyboard working with Ubuntu. For now, I'll probably be sticking to Windows so I need software advice. What is the best/fastest/least buggy... 1) Virus Scan (I assume I will need one of these). I am leaning towards Avast or Sophos right now. 2) Pdf reader - Chrome reader it ok but it would be nice to have one not tied to the browser. I tried Sumatra but it is a litt…

I'm trying to get my squeezebox (v1) to play my personal Last.FM radio and it seems that the only way to do that is to get the stream url somehow. I've tried most methods that I've seen on the interwebz (squeezebox forums included) with no luck. If anyone sees a solution, I would love to know. EDIT: I know this can be done somehow since a foobar plug-in does it very well.

PNY? Centron? KByte? Some unknown brand? Should I buy two sets of two different ones and try them both out? Background: I already bought some Centron, but can buy 4G of PNY for reasonably cheap. Should I? Or is it a move sideways? What are there often sales of? Kingston? Crucial? Are those the two best at this point? I don't need best (not for this computer), I need "Honda" -- cheap (or rather, reasonably priced considering its quality, not Kia cheap) yet reliable. For the one I build myself, then I'll want "BMW" performance.

I don't know whether I'm just out of touch and ignorant about Google's practices or whether our main IT guy just wants to give us a hard time by refusing to install Google Analyics and comparing Google to the Stasi. He wants to an open source thing called Piwik instead, which seems quite powerful and is actually more tweakable, but doesn't have Google Analytics's neat Adwords integration. I mean what could Google possibly want to do with our website data anyways (other than aggregating it for analysis purposes and for selling me AdWords) and they have thick privacy policy to boot. What do you think?

So I get home from the gym last Friday to find a brown box on my doorstep. It was odd, as a Mexican hadn't stolen it yet, but I digress. I wasn't expecting anything, but I opened it up and lo and behold, a box of awesomeness. I even got the new stickers! Anyways... I really like a lot about this thing. The size is just about perfect, the build quality is very good. For a daily carry machine, I love it, but there is a bit lacking, as of now. I have a lot more playing to do, but for now, I post a pic for Jeff's sake. No review yet, as I've been rather busy as of late, but I wanted to throw this out there saying that "one of us has one." If you want to know …

How secure are Google Docs and Google Apps? We're looking into document sharing here at my day job and someone mentioned google docs. Thing is, these are fairly sensitive documents with confidential information. Is this secure enough or no. Anyone else's company share docs this way?

So Google has a new Wikipedia competitor, called KNOL. Chief difference? Settings preventing an article from being modified by anyone other than the original author. LOL

Google's spending some cash these days. I think it's going to be a pretty big deal in terms of IP for Google. They started out the month with around 1000 patents, and once this acquisition goes through, they should have close to 15,000 with another 7500 pending. I think it'll be a boon for Android and should even expand to the living room with the set-top box industry. I figure GoogleTV will be on Comcast boxes in the next few years. **BRENT**

So this guy on eBay has a disc that I want, and since he's in Germany, and there are other things in Germany that I want, I want to be able to browse what he has, but he sucks and doesn't put them in categories or anything. Does anyone have any advice on how to go through his catalog without looking up every single thing he has somewhere else? It's this guy, tucu9. I got SACD's, and there's even one I want (After Forever, though no Epica), but beyond that I'm stumped. I like his electro/ebm/industrial selection (which includes the disc I want), but am insufficently familiar with compilations to know which are good ones and which are not so good (I am avidly not in…

Okay, so I got a new monitor, this one, and found out that my graphics card is so old, it doesn't have a 1680x1050 resolution. It has higher, but not widescreen. And it's old enough that it's no longer being supported. So the short answer is I need a new computer. The longer answer is I ain't gettin' one right away, I was going to build it piecemeal -- a case here, a power supply the next month, motherboard and CPU the following, memory, etc. So what I want is a graphics card that will fit in my current computer, but will be good enough for my new computer. Note: I am not a gamer! I do not need dual SLI thisthatorthother. I won't even be watching DVDs on this thing …

Things to do with websphere application server 6.1 : and Sorry for this. I'm just a little frustrated because I can't get the sucker to setup a jmx connection, which works fine in Jboss (and Websphere community edition). Guess this is what you get for paying big money for software. Feels better now. Thanks.

I've been wanting to do this for a while. Sometimes my computer just starts acting wonky, and I know a format and full windows reinstall is forthcoming. about the only thing I really need on it is my music and some pictures (if you call random internet lolcat pictures I downloaded stuff I "need"). But anywho, today I got home from work, and I'd start up my computer, and it would get all the way to the windows desktop, then reboot. It repeated this in an endless loop. Luckily, I always keep an external hard drive with all my drivers, FLACs, and pictures on it. I also keep my Windows CDs in a safe place. Just a friendly reminder to always be prepared! computer is run…

Meh, guess I'll try asking here. Does anyone know of software that can read the SMART data from drives in USB enclosures? Is it even possible? I would like to be able to check the fitness of a drive without having to plug it in directly, especially 2.5" drives. Another question: I am concerned about the fitness of my primary drive. The raw read error rate has been around 48 since I last started monitoring it, and it flits around between 48 and 49, sometimes going up to 52. This is a Seagate drive, and I assume 100 is the maximum value. Of course, I have no idea whether Seagate is doing some weird shit with the values. I compared my drive to another identical one and…

Hi there, H-C. Yesterday, while I was on a photo shoot, my beloved Blackberry grew legs and took off (FML). I've been in damage control mode for the last 20 or so hours (shutting off the phone, changing a fuck-ton of passwords.) Now I'm moving on to regaining ground so to speak. I have a Google Voice number, and had the GV app for my BB. I also have a Vonage box left over from when I was a customer of theirs. My understanding is that the Vonage only works with their service. It might be hackable, but that's really not my forte. What I'd like is similar box, something with an ethernet (or USB) jack and an RJ11 jack. Failing that, a hardware phone with a USB port…

Here are a couple reviews of a 24" EIZO, which you can get for around $2400 (about 3x the price of Apple's 23" and 4-5x the price of popular Dells/etc) http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/09/16/eizo-coloredge-cg241w-high-end-monitor/ http://www.macuser.co.uk/macuser/reviews/129056/eizo-coloredge-cg241w.html excerpt: pricey though

So I had ripped Abbey Road into FLAC files a while back and converted them (via Max) recently to ALAC so I can use them with my iPod. For some odd reason, I can't play one of the tracks (Something) nor can I add it to the iTunes library. Rest of the album works just fine and the track in question plays just fine in FLAC format on Cog. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? It's not that big of a deal but I really don't feel like tracking down my CD in the abbys that is my closet.
