Thanks everyone. The day started and finished well, the middle was work so not much to do about that. Looking forward to a relaxing weekend.5 points

Debbie made Shakshuka, eggs poached in tomatoes, onion, garlic and bell peppers. It smelled so good while cooking that I was almost drooling. And it was delicious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

Seriously though, Chris, Focus isn't nearly big enough for you and three kids. Go back to the super wagon -- E63, RS6 Avant -- you'll be much happier.3 points

Carnitas tacos for my friend's birthday at my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. It was good to eat something substantial.3 points

I have to be honest, Chris, I can't imagine being as tall as you and putting kids in the backseat of a Golf/GTI platform car. My GTI is already starting to feel too small. Basically, when I comfortable in the front seat I'm constantly getting kicked in the back by the 4yr old. And there's not much room for stuff either. And no way you're getting 3 kids seats in the back of a Golf either. I've got two in mine and there's maybe a 10" gap between the seats. Given that one of yours will be an infant seat the situation would be even worse. Don't get me wrong, the GTI is fun to drive. But lately it's been aggravating an old hip injury - the side bolster pushes on a painful spot on my left leg - and I'm giving serious thought to replacing it. It's also (even with full warranty coverage) cost me more to maintain in 18 months than the Camry did in 6 years. A good friend has a Focus ST and loves it, also has two kids and it's just bigger enough from what I can see so maybe the RS would be the perfect family hoon mobile.2 points

Thanks, Dreadhead. My apologies for making the leap across the pond... At that price point and AWD I like the Evo in the same size bracket. The Sti is interesting if one doesn't find the wing offensive....although the WRX is no slouch. Interestingly, I can beat up on quite a few fast RWD vehicles on a road course with my Jeep SRT given the AWD (of course the huge Brembos, beefed up suspension and 6.4L with 8-speed and paddles don't hurt) despite the 5,150lb curb weight. The vehicle is a pig, but there's a lot of joy taunting a Mustang... AWD FTW. HS1 point

Re: Europe, the RS is just very recently available in the stares, so it's not too big of an issue to think of it like that. Zach, your wife is a solid foot shorter than Chris, so... http://m.ebay.com/itm/131732598924?_mwBanner=1 **BRENT**1 point

My wife can fit 3 car seats in her Prius... I think the Focus will be fine. Nothing you would want to take a road trip in, but short rides are perfectly fine. That said.... RS6 Avant!1 point

Teflon SPC, like the stuff from NavShips on ebay is what I use. 24ga for signal, 20ga or maybe 18ga for power stuff. http://stores.ebay.com/johnssilverplatedptfewireshop?rmvSB=true1 point

Yeah it was about $500 including shipping which I consider a good value for how much stuff they replaced or refurbished.1 point

My sister drives a Focus (not RS) and the back seat is fine for 2 adults or three kids. I think if you buy an ST or RS you get a free racing school day here:1 point

I'm giving some pretty serious thought to the Focus RS as a car that will still carry the 3 kids in the back but I can have fun with. We have room for a 3rd car so leaving the Odyssey sitting in the driveway is a serious option. We were looking at getting some nicer luxury cars but it makes more sense to spend more money on two cheaper cars but get we actually want. Meaghan is looking at some of the smaller crossovers from Volvo, BMW, MB and others and I've always wanted a pocket rocket.1 point

Okay.....after giving up riding to be at the beck and call of a puppy's bladder, I'm back on the bike. Did 10 miles on Saturday, which was annoyingly hard, but it was so much fun to be out and about again. I was actually laughing when I got home. Also, the computrainer place I used to go to a couple years ago just opened up again in the building next to my office...we share a parking lot. I've been going on lunch hours and getting my azz kicked to Sufferfest videos. My watts are only set at 125 and I feel like I've never been on my bike before, but I'm loving it. I aiming to be able to do the fun group rides again come june-ish. Right now, I need to get my legs back and drop some poundage. I also need to get some new riding friends. All my old crew moved, got too good for me, or quit to do other things.1 point

I have a general potentiometer question. Anybody ever use one of the giant old milspec helipot potentiometers for volume control? I found a 20k quad for fifty bucks that I figured was worth a shot. The tolerances are good on paper but it's massive, like bigger than an RK50 quad massive. EDIT: I got this in today for anyone who needs a laugh at the size of it. Turns out it was 5 gang but I only needed the 4 20k and not the single 30k. So good and bad. Good: Pulled out my multimeter and gave it a once over. 5% tolerance on each gang is actually within 2% at max resistance and each gang is within 2% of each other at almost every point. Still tracks exceedingly well. Bad: sin/cos 360 pot so you only get a fraction of the manual adjustment for volume and would have to mark the volume indicators carefully. Old pot so old pot problems are likely. Still really impressed all things considered. For fifty bucks it was worth a gamble. I'll try hooking it up to my kgsshv at some point and get a listen.1 point
