  1. Reanimating the old thread again: These are my kittens: Fluffy(pofuduk), Cotton(pamuk), Cutypie(şirin) and Bigboi(koca oğlan) Tuxedo is bitch(zilli) and far left tabby is beady (boncuk) Cotton was missing for nearly one week, and showed up yesterday with wounds inside his mouth and nose, went to vet today. He said he got into fight. He is taken care of now in the house.

  3. Oh bugger. That is a major serious gob smacking loss. We were lucky enough to see him when he returned to touring maybe 8 years ago - and he was absolutely amazing live, one of the best concerts of all time. I have it on DVD, CD and black vinyl and will listen today in honour of a great man.

  4. PBS has a new documentary series called "Soundbreaking" that starts this coming Monday night. It could be interesting. Just set my DVR. Link here: http://www.pbs.org/soundbreaking/home/

  5. The two disc 180g vinyl of Famous Blue Raincoat (20th Anniversary limited edition) has some tracks that are not on the CD. Which came as a pleasant surprise when I played it. In the liner notes is a copy of a letter she sent to Cohen in 1956, when she was 9, about Song For Berndette. And also Cohen's reply. Just shows how a kind reply can have lifelong musical repercussions. Just tried to find a price for these - of course no longer a current pressing, and which now changes hands for $2000. Holy carp.

  10. Some interesting details of getting an SPDIF interface to work properly are here http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=45330.0 Although, even if you get the data transmission perfect with SPDIF you still have problems with clock recovery, the principles outlined can be applied to any digital link at all - as Pars said, a digital link of any sort is high bandwidth RF engineering, and many (most?) audio system designers do not understand this. Which would explain why different digital cables sound different on a particular system - if the impedances at high frequency are not well controlled, and significantly different from what they ought to be (50, 75 or 110 ohms say), then it is open turkey shoot for fiddling with digital cables to mitigate this.

  11. Feel free to use this thread to discuss anything kitty-related. There are several of us here who love cats, and those that don't can just ignore this whole thread. I just told my sister to send me another cat.

  14. Bah, just use a DAC which has a memory buffer and galvanic isolation. It will sound the same with any input, because jitter will be dictated by the on-board master clock and galvanic isolation will take care of most of the ground/line crud. The only price to pay for this would be latency induced by buffer size. Mine adds 0.5ms. You can't just go spewing out stuff like "USB is dead, because my AOIP gear makes me feel better/different". P.S. Just keep in mind guys, that USB audio can't really be compared to other data transfer protocols which have error correction. USB audio can't do checksums and repeat sends, it'll just cut out, if the stream gets interrupted. In theory you could make an audio transfer protocol which would have a buffer and then attempt resends for bad packages until the buffer runs out. Think - anti-vibration systems on those portable CDPS your cool friends had.

  20. If I had a nickel for every time I heard this... What's wrong with listening to you? You haven't established any credence yet, that's what. If I tried everything that some random stranger on the internet told me to try, I wouldn't have time for the things that I truly enjoy. And I'd have a buttload of Galaxy Note 7s. I've already explained why you shouldn't be the one pushing this. If you persist in ignoring me and in your unpaid shilling, I shall have to resort to stronger words.

  24. Fixed that for you. Just to interject, and I know most of you aren't jitter believers (beliebers? :)), but some theorize that clocking errors in the recording chain (i.e., pro audio) have ill-legitimized much (all?) of the digital recording legacy and library. Source of info is jockohomo, but I for one take note of what he might say on the subject, as obtuse and inferral as he may be. Scary thought, eh? My point relevant to this discussion being that any opinion on an interface should be taken from a grounded reference of a known entity performing in a known acoustic space. If it sounds like the real deal, then there might be some merit in the technology, but keep in mind that there might be problems in the recording chain as well (blasphemy, I know). SPDIF has a multitude of problems, whether coax or optical. USB had a shitload of problems prior to asynchronous or whatever they call it now (Wavelength Audio IIRC). All of this shit (the clocking, and the transmission) is in the RF analog domain, and the implementation matters.

  25. Pro audio has been fooling around with ethernet for a while. High track count and long cable runs are some of the main advantages. MADI and Dante are the most common so far. Merging Technologies is using the AES67. http://www.merging.com/products/pyramix/ravenna Dante: +allows 96 kHz without loosing any of 128 channels +64 channels at 192 kHz +redundancy (on most units) +flexible routing +cables are easy to get +Dante Virtual Soundcard MADI: +soundcards with DSP available +USB and ExpressCard interfaces available +most units have optical interface (long connections and galvanic isolation) +it isn't a proprietary protocol +more second hand gear available
