  1. Got back from upstate NY, an adventure to visit Clarkson University for Admitted Students' Day (today/Saturday). Due to the weather, we left Thursday instead of Friday. Tough ride, save for a nice pic Karen got on the Lake Champlain Ferry; long, couldn't find a good place to stop for dinner, and ended up getting to the hotel just past 10pm. Andrew got into a class Friday, and spent a bit of time on campus. It turns out he is not as impressed these days. A big part of that is due to Wheaton College in MA jumping very high on his list, after a student-hosted night and also attending a class there. It set a pretty high standard to meet. Combine that with the snow, odd eating schedules causing general grumpiness in all of us, and a dead car battery that had to be jumped. We got to the event this morning, looked at the agenda....and decide to leave and get home. So Andrew has made his choice of Wheaton, and we all think it's a great one. Great combination of Tech and Liberal Arts, and an incredibly welcoming and diverse set of students and faculty. Along with Clarkson, Wheaton also gave fantastic merit money. And it's not a 6-plus-fucking-hour ride.
  2. Thanks everyone. I am currently visiting my parents to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
  3. When in Rome, you have that Roman nonsense. When in the South, you have fried chicken. And sausage/cheese/pickles And some tamales (the leftovers, at least) Did I mention chicken? Oh, yeah, and we had a side of chicken. One must have fries... and chicken. Notice the bread at the bottom of all the chicken? If you're wondering if it tastes like chicken, it does. (It also soaks up all the grease, and as I was discussing with someone when I had this place at a catered event, pulling the soaked toast out afterwards and making chicken-soaked croutons sounds amazing.) Zoe as the protector of the sides And the gratuitous parting shot. Not pictured: a slacker Had a blast. I, too, am sad we didn't get a pic of Dan, especially after he left at 5am today to meet us, but his memory shall keep him going til the next time. I also think this is the furthest out I've had a dinner planned in years. **BRENT**
  4. Good to have choices for college especially when they want to give you money! My kids had a choice, University of Florida. They could choose to go or not. It worked out. Roasted my first two 1/4 pound batches. We will see how they turned out tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. You can't set up the joke and not deliver the punchline ...
  6. Thank you all very much for the kind thoughts! My wife was very close to her mother and that has been the toughest part. Fortunately the service was lovely and we celebrated her life after the burial with a crawfish boil. She was a southern belle from Louisiana so it felt right and it was...a joyous moment in a week of a lot of lows and to-do's. HS
  7. Just built my mini GRLV supplies. The Negative came up just fine and works perfectly The positive supply is giving me some issues and I'll need to debug it. Here's some pictures... This pic shows a board I made for the Blue Hawaii that has the +5V, Digital Controller (ATMega328P) and Digital attenuator board along with the GR7/9xx regulators. I'll mount them once the positive supply is working.
  8. That looks fantastic! Except for that nasty Red stuff in the bottle.
  9. Moderators please inform the foreigner that sexual innuendos are my department.
  10. Excellent board game breakfast (we didn't quite solve case one of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, but we came close), mediocre coffee date, now making tacos with Gardien "Beefless tips," which, having sampled one, are way closer to a solid beef chunk than I ever thought a meat substitute could be. The stuff even sears well.
  11. 20th Sonoma International Film Festival, Or something Stretch might sport? You decide.
  12. 1 point
Episode 4 was great, probably enjoyed it more than any of the Grand Tour episodes. Very much looking forward to 5 tonight, especially the KOH portion.

  19. Here's the kgbhultraminipsv4 and the cfaelectrostat2 boards Here's the switch board
  20. Interesting topic this inlet AC controlling. Found this board in my closet. Small power supply with a PIC 10F202. Input IR and toggle momentary switch. Out to SS relay and two color LED for on/off indication. This board has served in a T2 power supply. For some reason it didn’t work when I used it for BH and Megatron. Those amplifiers draw more current than the T2 and the control powered up just to fall back to off within a second. So I took it out. I’ve a similar board with SS relay onboard in a KGSShv power supply and that works OK. Mean Well has small power modules that might be used to power the control unit. Like this. Correction: not toggle switch - it is a momentary switch.
  21. Yes....rough year thus far. RIP, Mssr. Baker. We buried my wife's mother yesterday. Touching event. I was doing great until my youngest son elected to speak a few words. Made me proud, but I cried like a little girl. She was a strong woman and very tolerant of my taking her daughter and grandsons around the world as a result of my career. RIP, GG... We love you. I'm glad I imbibe... HS
  22. Used wrong word here ... the switch is in fact a toggle switch, though it needs to be pushed rather deep to act as a toggle ...if only push'ed lightly it acts as a momentary ... so rather similar to the AMB setup
  23. And more last night ...

  25. Sam, I love Surface Pro. Have the Surface pro 2 with 512GB of SSD. You can get less than $500 these days in a second hand market or a refurbished one. I prefer Win7 but Win10 isn't that bad IMO.
  26. Not an Apple product, but what about a Yoga that can work as a laptop with a supported screen, or as a tablet to split the difference?
  27. Finally received Front/Back plate for the 5U Dissipante - almost took forever. Decided to have a groove dividing the front plate into an upper 2U and a lower 3U, to have it look less bulky; it's still one 5U piece. The "pi" sort of symbols the topology To be continued ...
  28. I'll assume you've got the DAC sorted out already.
