  1. I have been a little slow in getting the new table up and running, but I bought this AMG V12 Viella off Audiogon last month. Now playing:

  2. A delay circuit. Similar to Stax. LED flashes during preheat and then steady. Should work with CPC1117N. Will probably cost you more than four bucks.

  4. Went through the process at the DMV to get my Illinois Motorcycle license and plan to attend a Triumph premiere event tomorrow night to check out some new bikes they are bringing out. Since I never drive my cars I figured it was time to put another expensive thing in the garage that I never use. I know there are several riders here, but I have not seen many posted in our Motorsports thread.

  5. Ruebens on Sonja & Mikey's deli rye. Fantastic even if the makers dismiss the style.

  6. Pair of GRHV Fat PSU boards are up and running! It feels SO much less stressful bringing these up with a variac rather than just a plug&hope approach. All is fine, but voltages are a bit high. +407 and -410 loaded with a 15K 10W resistor for each board. Those test resistors get darn hot after about 5 minutes!! I am using a 350V trafo, so not worried about going above what it can feed, so might just leave that as is. However, the bias test point reads 590 and is still slowly climbing as the diodes heat up. Guessing I should replace one of the 150V diodes or the 130V with something about 10V less? Not sure what values are readily available so will have to look. I have also completed a pair of Carbon boards that @mypasswordis started but decided not to complete (he is going SMD route). I have pre-set the CCSs to 17ma. BTW, the process of using LV (in my case a pair of 9V batteries) to set the CCS was INVALUABLE. I could not set the current for one channel and found the cause: I missed a solder joint! Nice to find mistakes like that without having 800+ volts running through them! I have to wait until my 15/15 LV trafo arrives from Antek before firing up the amps (I am using the on board LV from the GRHV board until I decide if I want to built the GRLV). Those guys at Antek have cancelled my last 2 orders due to lack of stock. Never even let me know this time. I had to call and see why the order was late and they said they never shipped it. Ah, I guess that is why!

  8. Here is Delay circuit.PDF schematic. R1/C1 determines the delay time and R2/C2 flashing frequency. 12 V is fine, I use this circuit in two T2 power supplies with 12 volts. For time calculations google "R/C time calculation". Values in schematic gives me approximately a 50 seconds delay.

  9. can confirm this works like a charm. conference calls for work with my earbuds plugged in and the phone on the charging pad. very happy with the 8+ so far. and a battery that actually acts like a battery.

  11. Like, could I get a few pairs from ya? Those are what went into the original Dynahi back from headwize right? I'd be willing to do the group buy for these plus anything else needed if there isn't already one

  13. One could argue that mcalister audio is just out to troll people... The sheer level of quality here is just startling. If I could only attain this level someday... ahhh one can dream!!!

  15. Buddy from Detroit came in to town and needed to stretch out his expense account. I knew a guy who could help. Chorizo deviled eggs, whiskey cocktails, Cuban tacos (pork belly, pork shoulder, red dragon cheese), fried chicken (spicy and regular), braised pork cheeks with polenta cakes, beer braised chicken tacos, apple tart with toasted pecans, bourbon caramel, and a local ice cream, Nutella cheesecake with toasted almonds and whipped cream, 2-3 Redbreast 12, 3 Macallan 12, George Dickel hand-selected bottle. Probably some more stuff I missed, but wound the night down with some darts and more Macallan 12. That was a fun 7.5 hours. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

  18. I agree on many of your impressions on this. I also had a lengthy listen recently in a quiet environment. Took some eye-candy photos as well. The build quality, fit and finish of it all is top notch naturally. The marble case really is nice. Tried lifting it, succeeded just barely. This fucker is 25 kilos! Nice hefty metal remote included in the set. No issues with comfort here, the headphones felt light to me and the headband is HD 800 style but with more padding so no stress on the top of my head. The sound is very articulate but definitely felt a little stiff and sterile to me. I much prefer the warmer, more I guess “euphonic” tone of the SR007 which just makes vocals sound more alive and present. The bass surprised me though, the HE1 has tremendous bass impact and extension. It just begs to be turned up as the large drivers almost vibrate your skull but without a single trace of resonance.

  19. I'm on a Pineapple Thief binge, after receiving their live CD/DVD, Where We Stood and watching it 2ce in a row this weekend. They didn't have enough of the space rock from their back catalog (like the epic "Remember Us"), so I'm taking care of it myself. "Wednesday 23rd" is particularly beautiful little slice of music. Both tracks can be found here:

  21. Since we've had some more talk about garbage like Lampi dacs...there is something else we have to discuss - the ifi iesl. Long story short, I was asked to look into this for a mafia member and well... I wouldn't connect my phones into this. So let's start at the beginning, the transformers have either a 1:16 ratio or 1:32 depending on the impedance switch. The former is certainly on the low side so you need some power to push this. Their claims for the transformer construction is all fine and dandy for output transformers but they never touch on the stuff that actually matters for electrostatic step up operation. The transformer capacitance is paramount and so is to keep the inductance in check. Let's just focus on the shit that doesn't matter instead... Now onto the bias supply and their capacitor "battery" claims are just so full of shit that it isn't even funny. First of though, how is the high voltage for the batteries generated? I can't see any transformer that could do that from the low voltage DC input. There are some chokes but nothing substantial enough. Also, how are they switching the bias? Those cheap arse switches? Sure fucking hope not and no normal relay can handle these voltages. Now for the really bad news, see the first picture, the string of resistors in front of the 5 pin connectors? Those pretty much have to be the ballast resistors run in series to increase the voltage handling. They are also high value resistors but I can't quite make out the value of them. Now follow the trace on left and see the cap that is there? Yup it is 10nf/1kV so it sure looks like the fucktards put a cap after the ballast resistor. Never, ever do that if you like the coating on the diaphragms... As for the whole capacitor based supply claims, if they run them in parallel then they have 3uf roughly of charge which is quite a bit and I for one wouldn't want to have that sitting on the bias supply should anything go wrong. I also wonder if their dielectric claims extended to the rest of the circuit? The PCB's leak at these voltages as do the switches and connectors.
