With any of our amps (have to put the caveat "when built properly" as I've seen people jumper the safety stuff) and the Stax ones the damage potential would be minimal. With the bias, sure it is 580V but it's based on a very current limited voltage doubler circuit plus the 4M7 high voltage ballast resistor on the output will prevent any damage. The amp section could deliver some real hurt though, +/-400V or upwards power supplies with the amplifiers being able to swing almost from rail to rail meaning you could see ~1500Vpp or more at one output. This plus generous class A biasing means there is a lot of power at play here, hence the 5.1K output resistors. If there would be a short to ground (i.e. you) they would take off the worst of it. Now look at Woo Audio, Cavalli plus other amps and these protection provisions are just not there.

Seems I made Thinker, aka "person in charge of damaging the reputation and decreasing sales of Perrun" a bit testy. Ahh joy of joy's... Also funny how people keep going on about me offering up the HE90 frame with Lambda drivers for 6k$. Anybody want to guess how much two HE90 cups, the headband, cable, box and those insane little plastic gimbal pieces cost? Yup...more than 6k$... Ohhh and I got the last of these so no way asking Senn for any more... I did try to get a HE-1 without the amps and cable but they kindly refused.

Doing some initial testing of my Megatron. This is the latest version from the GB with the 12.6v filament for the front end tubes. It's making music but I do have some more work to do yet. The Antek AS-2T350 with its rated 350vac secondaries (sagged to 340vac under load) proven not enough to sustain the 450VDC targeted regulated voltage. The GRHV regulated rails sagged to about 433VDC under the load of the Megatron. As such, the intended +300VDC for the front end measured only +264VDC. Also, the 2 Antek AN-0206 transformers I used for the CCS EL34 filament supply only measured about 5.75vac, within the 10% tolerance but a bit low for my liking. May need to explore other options. These with the main ac measured about 117vac. The output balance measured 2.8VDC and 0.7VDC and the offset measured -15VDC and -17VDC (L/R). A few points worth mentioning: 1. I use KSA1156 in place of the 2SA1968 (need to rotate the parts to observe the different pinout) 2. I use a pair of 7812/7912 in the LV part of the GRHV to supply the front end tube filament and the current sink. I mounted them on a 60mm tall heatsink and it appears to work fine for the jobs intended. 3. I am using the split GRHV boards with the CPC1117N delay. I used the 12VDC (with a series resistor to limit the current) from the LV through a toggle switch to manually control the HV delay. It makes for a bit of messy wiring but works fine. Back to work to adjust the GRHV for 425VDC rails and tweak the resistors in series of the B+ to provide 300VDC rail for the front end tubes. EDIT: Forgot to mention perhaps the most important point - the front end tube filament supply connection: if you are using DC filament like I do, make sure you connect the ground wire of the filament supply to the ground pin (which is marked 12.6v on the board) and the 12.6VDC supply wire to the other connector which is NOT the one marked "12.6v". The one marked "12.6v" is actually connected to ground.

Went to my first sugar shack. Ate so much. They start out by giving you a doggie bag to fill as you go. I'm not going to even try and describe everything, as I'm not really sure, and most of the descriptions were in French. Lots and lots of foie gras and maple syrup. I nearly died.

They are both far better... as this is a really shitty amp. I think this one might actually be worse than the original LC if that is even possible. I had to go out tonight so I missed the delivery of the CTH so that will have to wait until tomorrow.
