  1. It comes out that this is one of the very few recorded performances by Django Reinhardt. Got to it from this talented guitarist YT channel

  2. Hard to believe they're still squeezing cash out of it, but the less obviously 80s remixes of the Gilmour-era stuff are actually worth a listen.

  4. We just bought a Switch for our boys. They already play the Wii more than the Xbox One so I figured why not.

  5. I agree with what MexicanDragon has said, Nintendo are pretty much the kings of kid friendly motion based games. In addition to his excellent game recommendations something like 1-2-switch can be very great as an enjoyable party game for kids and adults alike. It's not quite as heavy on the physical activity as some other games but it does make good use of motion controls and is sure to engage. Other than that the switch also has some more "traditional" fun games that kids are sure to enjoy, a personal favorite is Super Mario Odyssey (which also supports a 2-player mode).

  6. I'm confused. It's more PINK FLOYD but less worth a listen?

  7. Disagree. The post-Waters stuffs is more Pink Floyd than Final Cut or even THE WALL.

  8. I have a couple of controllers that I don't use. One's an old Korg padKontrol I picked up on eBay for a song and the other one's an Akai MPD18. I never felt comfortable with either one so they've been in the closet for a couple of years. Any of you guys can have one or both for shipping. PM me.

  13. Went to see Damien Escobar Wednesday night with my oldest daughter. Had not heard him before so that was interesting. For me the best part was the crowd. They were definitely his people and it was quite entertaining listening to their response. I had you tubed (is that a verb?) him and was surprised that he played the violin much less than the videos showed, perhaps half of each piece. He really connected with the audience in a very personal way. Of course, passing out roses to the audience didn't hurt. Near the end he came out into the audience. A 7 yr old boy who took up the violin asked if he could play. Damien let him play. The kid was pretty good! Great night out with Kristel but I don't think I'll be buying his music. Not having great luck going to concerts. Brit Floyd was postponed and I couldn't make the later date. Willie Nelson/Allison Krauss was cancelled. Having sticker shock for some of the performances (eg. Elton John, etc). Hope I catch a few more with no cancellations.

  14. Hey! Sorry, looks like I missed this. The older XBox had something called Kinect, which had cameras and IR and whatnot, and that was used more for those types of games; they discontinued that a while ago. For the "get the kids to sweat/active" games, I really enjoy VR for that. I played a boxing game and after a while of that, I was legit sore. That's a bit higher of a barrier to entry, though. There is a Playstation VR setup, but the ones we really like are typically PC based. Now, as was previously mentioned, the Switch is a great, kid-friendly/kid-centric system that adults can use as well. A fun, active game is "Dance Party 20xx" (2020 just recently came out, and it's just 30$ right now.) For that one, you can use the controllers that came with it, but probably a good idea to get a spare set of controllers (2 for about 68$ on sale) that let you have mini controllers for more people to enjoy, or you can also use them to play 4-player games (Mario Party/Super Smash Brothers/Mario Kart are some favorites of many.) Nintendo's Ring Fit Adventure for Switch is probably the thing you'd be most interested in. Also, there is a "Switch" and a "Switch Lite." Don't do the Switch Lite. It's a little cheaper, but doesn't have the removeable controllers, so it's a bit limited for what you're wanting. I have two Switches, 7-10 games, extra controllers, etc. Don't use it much, but have enjoyed it a good bit when I do. TL;DR: Get a Switch, Ring Fit Adventure, Dance Party 2020, and maybe a game or two you'd like to play

  15. I'd help if I knew anything about it, but I don't. PC only. I'm guessing Nintendo Switch might have the most flexibility for how it's used given that it doubles as a portable but I don't know what it has for kid-friendly games. Speaking of games, I've been on Grim Dawn kick lately. It's a Diablo-style action RPG (and it has some former Blizzard North people behind it), and it does capture the dark post-apocalyptic fantasy feel of Diablo very nicely. However, whereas Blizzard has been doing its best to streamline and simplify all of its games lately, Grim Dawn... sort of goes in the other direction. It's a huge game with an incredible amount of variety in character creation and layers upon layers of mechanics. It's got lots of depth to geek out over and is a great game overall. And no annoying microtransactions or AAA bullshit anywhere.

  18. OK, I think it is finally time to upgrade my laptop. Last time I bought one I only used it for travel since I had a small apartment and an iMac in the living room. Now I find myself with my iMac on the third floor and and wishing to use a computer while on the third floor. So thinking about the 13" or 16" Macbook Pro.. The 16" seems a bit big for travel but I usually have a large backpack with me anyways. The screen would be nice to have. Is there much of a speed difference between the 13" and 16"? I would be using laTex, some python computing, some Inkspace/ Illustrator and watching movies/netflix/etc. Yumi might use it for some AutoCad every once in a while. Right now I have a MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016), 1.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core m7, 8 GB 1867 MHz LPDDR3 so anything is going to be an upgrade! I guess I could go with the "old" (Mid 2019) 15" laptop from bhphoto: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1480941-REG/apple_mv902ll_a_15_4_macbook_pro_with.html

  20. This "conversation" reminded me of a time when some friends and I went to a Red Sox game. We're in the bleacher seats, yapping away with each other and these two guys in front of us. All of a sudden a stunningly gorgeous redhead, with a near perfect body, comes up the stairs in our direction. You literally heard a mash of conversation from about 7 people literally come to a complete halt all at the same time, as we all stared and virtually drooled. After she passed us, we realized that each one of us had completely shut up all at the exact same time. We started laughing, and I asked, "What's the score.....?" The guy in front of me, staring longingly and lost into nothing, says, "Two......" Good times....

  21. The guitar solo was worth the listen.. Sent me down a rat hole of listening to about 9 live versions of this from the 70s. I found this one fun - Not a super long solo (but good) And da Funk! - and fun to see the changes from 75 and 77 Both boots - and not great sound.

  22. Must be that time of the year. Had minor surgery on both of my big toes a few days ago. Not really painful but kinda icky!

  23. Well that was fun (not). I'd booked to have a minor op to the middle finger of my right hand today, originally when Carole was going to drive me there and back. In the meantime of course she broke both wrists. So I had it done anyway. So now between the two of us we have only one functioning arm . Still numb with local anesthetic, I expect it will throb a bit when that wears off.
