  1. Gag sign for a friend whose wife caught herself on fire while cooking. Learn something every time. Should have used a bolder font.

  2. Well, winter weather is now truly upon us with temps barely breaking double digits this weekend and a foot or so of the whiteness predicted for tomorrow. So I've gotten busy building up the snow rig and despite a few hiccups it's actually going ok. New brake hoses are required to replace the ones that came with the slightly used brakes I bought (too short) then just a shifter cable housing and some brake caliper adapters are all that's really missing. A friend has some basic SPD's that I'll use for now and I'm pretty sure I've got a spare saddle to throw at it. Hopefully all the bits still arrive this week and I've got a message into my local shop to give it a thorough looking over before I start riding. I'm hoping to have it on the trails in two weeks or so and the inbound snow should make for some entertaining rides w/ the studded tires.

  6. Spent way too much time trying to chisel out a space for the hinges for the box but now that it is done, I think they look too small.

  7. ^^^ I feel like the most relevant discussion that this thread needs is confirmation that one of your wives has compromised hearing.

  8. Exactly what I did basically. Set the start depth at .0015. All done with a 90.

  9. Tip for the future, in case this isn't what you did to fix it, but if you're v-carving and finding that you aren't getting a "bold" enough result a quick attempt at a fix is to simply cheat Z zero down a bit (experiment, it's easy to go too deep in a hurry) and then rerun that section of the program. I've found it works acceptably well without butchering the tapered sections. One other option is to rerun the program with a 90d V as opposed to a 60d, but that only works if your first effort was with a 60d bit.

  10. Thanks. So much to learn, so little time. No intentions of become a sign maker but it’s a little fun.

  11. I don't have any spare boards left, and I thought I had posted the gerbers in this thread, but I guess I hadn't. Here are the gerber files for the 2-pot (CP601/CP2500) and 3-pot (CP601/CP2500/Alps RK27) boards. Some place such as seeedstudio.com can run these for pretty cheap. Just give them the entire .zip file. TKD 4CP 2 pot final.zip TKD 4CP 3 pot final.zip

  14. Winner. Got some time to compare the 7 meter version to a 1 meter version of the same cable this weekend. No contest. Low pass filter very much in effect with the longer cable. Even did the maths calculationses on them. With the shorter cable the music breathes better and that extra blanket was removed from my speakers. To make sure I wasn't fooling myself, my wife (the one without the compromised hearing) was brought in to listen while I swapped cables back and forth. While she doesn't speak fluent audiogeek she was able to describe what she was hearing and confirmed (without me leading the witness) that the shorter cables were less obtrusive. I later traded the Cardas Neutral Reference speaker cables for some older Audioquest F18. That worked a treat as well although they are not perfect in the bass response. I think my real lesson here is combining too many neutral components may net a final system with a less natural final presentation. YMMV.

  15. A much better idea is to see if you can obtain one of the pot PCB from a GB (or other sources) some time ago so you don't need to solder directly to the pins on the pot. No need for fancy solder IMO. I have solder from Cardas, WBT and good old Kester and don't believe either one makes an audible difference. Get a good quality solder and solder the joints well is key.

  16. The tap pin is the one not soldered on your current one. If you're looking at the top right image in the datasheet, that's not a picture looking at the bottom of the pot, but the PCB layout the pot would fit into.

  17. You seem to forget that the important stuff is where the speech stands (500Hz to 2KHz) and that the brain is an incredible machine of filling gaps. If you provide your brain with an as accurate as possible information in the critical band, it'd make a better job "inventing" what it knows is there but now can't perceive. It's not its fault, it's our damn cochleas.

  19. Test fit of the bedside hardwood box for Kasia. Still need to sand, chisel for the hinges and route out some edges on the outer mahogany pieces and a finger groove on the lid and then nail it together and then seal. Birthday is tomorrow, so I am glad I got her other gifts also as this one is going to be late. just stacked up in the picture the lid and front panel will match up when I actually nail it all together.
