I actually find Roon both simplifying and more satisfying. Cannot see myself going back. I will actually buy a lifetime membership when this years subscription runs out. If i wait too much longer it won’t be worth it2 points

The Other Two (HBO) - two late-20's/early-30's siblings struggle with their own life issues amidst their 13-y/o younger brother's celebrity success (ala young Justin Beiber). Lots of NY locations (ala High Maintenance), & Molly Shannon is their mother (ala White Lotus). Created by SNL writers, but it's actually consistently funny. The class/culture-related sarcasm with the humor works for me (unlike the darker, drama White Lotus, which was just icky & depressing, imo). About halfway through season 1. S2 is about to start.2 points

You're a beast! Also, love at the efforts were on two different bikes. I have something in the works where I may be working on catching up to those numbers, though!2 points

It was one of those hot summer days, when too much grilled chicken is never enough. Bird on the left is just a dry rub for the little one who won't eat spicy food. Bird on the right was marinated in medium Nando's sauce overnight. All cooked at 390F for about an hour in the pellet grill, with lots of basting in more Nando's sauce during cooking. It was damn delicious. But it was still not quite Nando's.2 points

My shop is in the garage, with very poor sealing around the up and over door (and hence a battle with spiders!). But curiously, even given that the UK is permanently wet, I have no problems with rust. But I am rather paranoid about wiping tools (hand and machine) with either rust preventative or Camellia Oil.1 point

It's truly terrible. The only one I have learned much from, and I have learned a lot from it, is the Woodright's Shop. I know that's not Steve's cup of tea, but I think the information goes well beyond just the old-timey stuff, even if that's the focus.1 point

Doing anything else with digital media is nervosa. Streamers? Roon? Pi2AES? FFS.1 point

Holy thread necro look at this noob bumping a decade old thread. Hay guise remember this idea? Well, I bring it up because I spent a couple hours looking at remasters of The Rolling Stones. I'm not going to post any images of waveforms at the moment, but I'll say this: post 2000 remasters in general seem to be okay. Dynamic range is a thing. Mid 1990s loudness war remasters are, OTOH, a war crime. I had one example of a Let it Bleed remaster in particular that was an absolute nightmare.1 point

I had to pause this project for a bit, but I'm picking it back up now. I've had issues with some of the batteries I've been testing. I'm going to try and get a clean set and test with my current 3S balancer as well as a stock (ebay) 3S battery protection circuit.1 point

You need to get a more suitable solder iron, and I would invest in a solder sucker as well, such as an Edsyn Soldapullt or something like that. I'm not sure where you got your board from, but on any of the HC boards, I've never even come close to lifting a pad. Same with 1oz boards from seeedstudio, etc. Also, if you are using lead-free solder, one word: DON'T1 point

Sounds worth a look, but I have to completely disagree about White Lotus. I enjoyed it immensely. Any chance we get to see the siblings beat up the Bieber-esque character? That would seal it for me.1 point

^^^ Not sure exactly what you're asking, many of us have used switches like what you're describing but not knowing what or how you're proposing to use one it's impossible to answer your questions. Most uses that I'm aware of have been to trigger relays (power on/off, source selector) in which case it sees very little voltage or current and is serving its intended function. If you're thinking about some other application, it'll require careful consideration.1 point

Yeah, we're spoiled for choice. You almost have to consider your entire music library, playback software scheme and transport mechanism before you even start thinking about which DACs sound good. Digital music these days can easily be more work than cultivating a record collection. I got overwhelmed by all these new possibilities and didn't want to pay ongoing fees for something like Roon, so I said "fuck it", and am pretty much just going with USB transport from a PC. If I can fire up foobar, Spotify or Amazon Music directly from a computer, I'm a happy camper.1 point

Took an hour long walk at Shelby Farms park. Yesterday it was the Wolf river trail in Germantown. Tennessee has a lot more nature areas to wander around in Than North Texas.1 point

Just wanted to give a little update. Progress has been made, the board is partially populated with IC sockets, most resistors and diodes, and some tantalum and film caps. All those transistors included in my ebay purchase end up only for the SuSy Dynalo boards, so I made another order with Mouser last night. MJW21194G and MJW21993G have been out of stock for a while, may have to find another source (Digikey out as well). KSP42TA's are out as well. This is my first build, and my soldering skills were tinkerer level at best. I had no idea how rusty I was! As IC sockets were center of board, I started with those, and it took a redo of a pad or two to get the hang of it. Glad I bought flux cleaner! I definitely am not of production level skill, but all of the joints now look good under a magnifier. Hardest part seems to be using just enough solder and not too much. Have bought liquid flux for the IC sockets, wasn't really a problem here but looks like it will be necessary for large IC sockets on SuSy boards. I need to start looking at transformers, hopefully toroids. Problem is, I may actually need another secondary winding and associated DC board to power peripherals. I'm hoping at some point to add options such as input sensitivity, remote volume, or multi-source switching. Do you think a 12 volt rail, maybe half an amp, should cover those capabilities? I'm hoping to start looking in goodwill shops for a temp case, repurposed from some other audio component. Just basically need the sheet metal and the IEC outlet (hopefully w/fuse holder), maybe a mount for the volume control, and even a possible input connectors or two. I'll permanently case when I've gotten everything working and have a picture in my head of the finished product. I have to look thru a lot more of everyone's builds for inspiration. More to come!1 point

It isn't confined to On-Semi. Rohm did the same thing with all their low noise offerings ages ago, So did Renesas with the J79/K216 - in fact lateral MOSFETs are a thing of the past. Most p-channel jFETs have gone, and many low-noise jFETs of any flavour. The latest to go is the very low noise J107 (another On-Semi casualty). NXP killed off the n-jFET BF862 (lower noise than the K170) and indeed all jFETs, period. Analog Devices has just EOL'd the monolithic dual MAT01, unusual because it BVceo is 45V; every other low-noise dual is 40V. So in one of my applications where the maximum Vce is 41V it is the only part that will do. Hell On-Semi even obsoleted that ubiquitous BC560! OK they still make the SM version, the BC860, but it is tough nuts if you needed the power dissipation of a discrete part. If a part does not go in an automotive, mobile device, TV or other ultra-high volume application, semiconductor manufacturers lose interest real fast. The glimmers of hope are Toshiba, Diodes Inc, Linear Systems and THAT. And LS is the only one with a credible line up of single and dual jFETs and dual bipolars in multiple package choice.1 point

Just finished testing a new version of the battery with the LT1021-7 reference. From what I can measure, it seems quieter on the scope (mostly above 25KHz) than the LED version. It's nice to be able to test without risking the whole amp I'll probably start using the LT1021-7 in the GRHV supply as well since it needs less current to operate. I'm currently feeding it about .94mA with the base of the transistor it connects to pulling about 70uA from that as well.1 point

My poor woodworking shop has been neglected for a few months and really shows it. The Jessem Router Table has rusty screws everywhere, several hand tools had a nice surface rust and even the Forrest is all rusted up from staying on the saw without proper service. Might need to try some dehumidifier in the garage or finally put in a proper HVAC in there.0 points

It isn't just our guy either. There have been three other athletes have failed performance drugs tests at the Tokyo Olympics. And there is discussion underway to remove weightlifting entirely for Paris because of years of systemic performance drug use. And it goes right back. There was a short period when Chinese distance runners were cleaning up and setting unheard of records. The coach put it down to herbal tea. Yeah. And then they all retired in their mid 20's. And even further back, there was a Czech woman runner called Kratochvilova https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jarmila_Kratochvílová who I swear looked like a bloke. God knows what she was given by her coach, but her 800 metre record has stood since 1983 - the best women runners in the world have not got within a second of her time in the intervening 38 years. The other drug fuelled (allegedly) woman at the same time from East Germany was Marita Koch, who's 400m world record still stands. So in a real sense it has ever been thus. As soon as a drug can be tested for, new wonder dope comes along which cannot be found. All that is before we even think of drug fueled cycling. And it wasn't just Lance Armstrong - they were all at it. And in the early days of the Tour de France they used to take puffs of ether to numb the pain, and strychnine - or anything going to help on 400km stages on dirt roads. Chloroform was also used, and horse dope. Then they got onto Amphetamines. The British rider Tom Simpson died on the upper slopes of Mont Ventoux in the 1967 Tour though amphetamines and dehydration. His last words were "Put me back on my bike".0 points

The first runner in our silver medal GB 4x100m sprint team, Ujah, has tested positive for two banned performance enhancement substances. The whole team loses their silver medals, and forfeits any other benefits such as appearance money. That will be a lifetime ban for the fucker - and that is absolutely right. The question I want to be asked, is what did GB sport, and the British Olympic Association fail to do? Surely they test athletes on a regular basis as part of the selection process? I am so fucking angry. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/582056020 points
