  1. "Charlie is good tonight, ain't he?" 😥

  2. Finally finished Queen's Gambit -- very excellent, thoroughly enjoyed. Hard to believe it was entirely fiction, her story felt so authentic, down to the unrelated details (her love of clothes and high fashion) and the seeming autism that is never mentioned directly, only portrayed.

  3. I’ll be wearing a bright watch too, when G gets his Parchie Pal School Time in green and teal. Planned birthday is a pool party (end of the season). Maybe I should swap the pre-moon for the 1861, but the pre-moon passed it’s tests under a year ago. 8 is a big birthday, and I’ll know.

  4. My poor old 2017 Tiguan got hit at night in a hit and run a few weeks ago. It creased the fillets and crushed chunks into the “character lines.” I finally got high enough up on the food chain to get the fix that should have been done to begin with started. During the first work they had me in an Atlas. Huge, but really a joy to drive, once you got used to how big it is (and you learn to avoid the circumstances where lane assist tries to kill you). Once I move I might get one, since whatever you call the son of your partner is gonna need soccer shit ferried back and forth, or whatever (he should be my “step son,” by then, but North Carolina courts don’t give a shit about putting a final imprimatur on divorce papers). This time they have me in a 2020 Sportsline 530. I’ve never driven a more underpowered barge with “sport” in the name. It’s also so complicated to run in the cabin that I wish I were dealing with somebody else's regular expressions in Perl. There is a reason I bought a 2017 Tiguan instead of the 2018 when I traded in sporty for practical At least it’s pretty.

  7. Nora from Queens - Awkwafina is raw, but in a so very relatable way, in this comedy series set in Flushing, not far from where I lived. Lori Tan Chinn is a hoot as her grandmother. BD Wong brings his usual high-level in the most subtle of ways as her dad. Easy watch, recommended.

  9. I've been bingeing on some j-fusion. Casiopea 3rd is the current incarnation of long-time favourite Casiopea, whom I've always loved, I just don't listen to enough of them. This is pure joy:

  11. That was the one for my partner. She loved it and was delighted by the whole experience of opening it and putting it on. The one for her son hopefully elicits a similar response.

  14. Finally done! I regrettably sold my previous KGSSHV Carbon a while ago, this one’s not going anywhere soon. This is a 400V, 19mA version, using the ground plane amp board, Sumr transformer and Goldpoint V47 attenuator. I bought the heatsinks from China and had all the drilling and panels done at Front Panel Express. I pulled out the Canon 5D from the cupboard for some tasty shots.

  15. Yes! Come on over... Turns out the Plasma Drive module doesn't fit all the way to the right in the Mantis case I got, so I had to move it to the center. It looks ridiculous when you're driving a signal through it with the voltage turned up:

  16. Yeah, we're spoiled for choice. You almost have to consider your entire music library, playback software scheme and transport mechanism before you even start thinking about which DACs sound good. Digital music these days can easily be more work than cultivating a record collection. I got overwhelmed by all these new possibilities and didn't want to pay ongoing fees for something like Roon, so I said "fuck it", and am pretty much just going with USB transport from a PC. If I can fire up foobar, Spotify or Amazon Music directly from a computer, I'm a happy camper.

  17. From what I have read the membranes are actually “normal” thickness somewhere between 1.5 to 2.2 microns and the graphene particles are embedded in the membrane material itself which is made of something entirely different. This cut and paste from an Audeze rep on the “other” site: “CRBN's nano-tube infused film is between 1.5 - 2.2 microns, I can only provide a range not a specific number Also beyond a certain point it does not make much sense to chase thinness, air-loading starts to dominate, stability and robustness become more important. We have even tried 0.5 micron thin version...“

  18. Just finished American Utopia, the concert/documentary by David Byrne directed by Spike Lee. I needed this to remind me why Talking Heads was one of my favourite bands.

  20. This is a bit of an odd one. Anyone who has listened to my radio show knows I'm not a huge fan of psytrance. With that said, I'm sad to find out about the passing of Olli Wisdom. He recorded a mass of albums and performed live as Space Tribe. In the early 80s Olli was part of the goth rock band Specimen and ran the Batcave nightclub. The club released a couple cassettes including one by the infamous industrial and proto power electronics act Whitehouse. Olli got in early on the UK acid house revolutions (which took place when he was the tender age of ...30) and was active as a DJ since the early 90s. I never met him, but I was aware of his presence and music for a good 25 years. In a scene full of revered egos and people with vastly inflated senses of self-importance, Olli was a very down to earth greatly respected individual. He was quite a character, too. There was a time when I'd have thought 63 was ancient and a ripe old age. Now it's "ulp, that's not that far off is it?"

  22. This post will not make much sense. There's a regular in my group of gaming friends who goes by Redeko. Naturally, I always refer to him as "Dorko," usually in the same intonation as David Lee Roth saying "Sit down, Waldo." One of the many idiot behaviors I get up to with said gaming group is making memes that are so many layers of in-jokes even the subjects themselves don't entirely understand them. Redeko works at a sandwich shop, owns an RE-20 microphone, and recently bought a new car and a 4K webcam (because those are a thing now.) I memes I usually represent him as a sandwich, because of his job: One of the other MicS members has been harping on the fact that Redeko IRL looks like a SoundCloud rapper named Yung Gravy and I should use him instead of a sandwich to represent Dorko: After completing the above two 'Shops, I made the mistaking of listening to a Yung Gravy song. The track that made him famous, in fact: It's not just that I'm old. Your music is BAD. I had to dig up one of my favorite hip hop songs of all time just to feel okay again. I am biased by having been exactly at the right age in 1991, but this is an entire genre and subculture peaking in one track.
