  1. A little under two weeks to go, and Xavier is still tearing me up. You'll be happy to know that my mom, her husband, and my aunt have all donated to him. None have donated to me. Here's a shot I just found from the time trial he raced in. So proud of this kid! **BRENT**

  2. Watching "An Evening With CAKE" in Athens, GA. One of my favorite bands of all time, and the first time seeing them live. No opener; they're doing two sets. I'm not even taking photos during the show, that's how good it is. And, the sound guy is bloody fantastic. Top 3 shows I've ever heard, mix wise. **BRENT** Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk Intermission tree giveaway. **BRENT** Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

  4. I know it happens all the time, car accidents, boating accidents, young people suddenly lose their lives, and the fact that one of them was a movie star, or a Congressman, or an amazing athlete, as opposed any other human being, really shouldn't matter... and it doesn't. But still, so talented was this young man. RIP Miami Marlin's star pitcher, Jose Fernandez, 24, and his two friends who died tragically last night... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/09/jose-fernandez-dies-in-boating-accident.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook Gutted.

  5. Happy 17th Anniversary to us! To paraphrase one of my favorite patient statements when I asked how long he'd been married: '14 happy years of marriage, and 3 ... not so great.' No particular plans today, but we'll have a weekend getaway in the long weekend in October.

  7. RIP Arnold Palmer - one of the all-time greats of golf. But at least 87 is not a bad round.

  10. Naw, it's just not great writing. The format of the piece - writer says gadget works > expert explains the problem the gadget addresses > writer weaves said explanation into his summary, is sound enough. He just didn't tie the threads together all that well. He could have simply let the reader make their own connection. He could have directed Rankin a little closer to the issue at hand. He could have framed his wild speculation in a transparent but yet amusing way. Woulda coulda shoulda. It's not an easy thing, especially when most publishing today has zero editorial supervision or quality control. [insert dead serious rant about how we can destroy our society this way here]. I have a lot of sympathy for reviewers and especially for the people who have to write advertising copy for high end audio goods. (imagine yourself trying to write a fifty word copy block for a cable ad.) Human nature flat out demands a "technical explanation" of why a gizmo works, whether or not that information is actually available. Our man here listened to the gizmo and said the gizmo works. He quoted some pretty reasonable-sounding PR from the manufacturer. He brought us a lovely primer from Rankin. He did all kinds of good work, but he felt he just HAD to go that one extra step and it detracted from his piece. Still, on balance, his review gives pretty good value for money, given that we got ti free and he probably made chump change writing it. He hipped us to two promising gizmos and gave us the Rankin bit.

  13. i was saving up some money to buy a new dynamic headphone amp, as i've been without one after my old head-direct hf5 died on me, but then this beauty showed up, and all my plans were thrown out the window. guess i'll have to survive using my floats off my stereo amp a few more years. i didn't want to go all the way to the attic and look for my ortho-collection anyway.

  18. Well I once used my 009's with a LL1, and have never been so nervous, simply because getting my 009's plugged in and even more so out was a nightmare.
